But, as we know, there will be those jw women who will buy into this crap. To me those women who follow this are afraid to live their lives, so they hand every tasks and decisions over to men, so if something goes wrong it is never their own fault but the other guys.

I know a chick whose dad is a JW and a huge "me head, you dumb woman" and she use to b*tch about him all the time. She got involved in some huge fundie church and next thing I knew she was using those famous words "man head of the household", it was such a shock to me. I always wondered if her brain was surgically removed at some point. A lot of fundies are into this crap.

I was recently at a funeral and afterwards there was the family dinner that I went to. This guy I grew up with never ONCE got up to get himself a plate of food or a drink of anything. Literally the minute his plate was clean his wife was there to refresh it with more food or more drink. I could not contain myself (come on I grew up w/ this dumb arse boy) and asked him what the deal was. Of course I did have to bring in some of the old JW training, so I asked him if he was the example of the guy that was at a party that was so lazy he could not pull his hand out of the punch bowl and died in the process. I asked him if his wife did not respond the instant his plate was clean or glass was empty, if he would go home and beat her. Needless to say, this did not go over very well this the JW men at the table.

    Thanks for the scan, Mary.

Without fail, everytime they say "one writer," or "a noted researcher," it is taken entirely out of context. This so dishonest and unprofessional!

    Paragraph 6:
One writer noted... WHO? A marriage counselor? Perhaps a psychologist? Dr. Phil? Let's Google.

    http://travel.nytimes.com/2006/03/11/opinion/11fredston.html

"Jill Fredston, the co-director of the Alaska Mountain Safety Center, is the author of "Snowstruck: In the Grip of Avalanches."

So, when a True Christian woman decides to accept or reject a marriage proposal, she can take to heart this unrelated snippet from a travel writer's review of an avalanche specialist's book?

Gill said: But to complete the set you really must post the article for husbands as well. This includes all the 'make sure your wife dresses properly' counsel!!!

I'll post it tomorrow......I've used up both of my threads today. Naturally it talks about how men "should" love their wives, etc. but the overall tone is that it's more of a suggestion and not the "command" like the study article on how wifey is supposed to behave.

Mary - Absolutely right! They do say that a husband should love his wife as his own body and not beat her up etc. But the only punishment is that his prayers will be hindered. I'm sure he'd be really distressed to know that!

Also, it says that husbands are to counsel their wives on dress, makeup, jewelry etc....I can imagine some bibles being shoved up some mens noses if they try that one. It gives the overall impression of 'control the bitches'! to me. I hope that no one finds that offensive but this whole mag has been a slur on women!

I find paragraphs 7-12 very disturbing. It appears that they are trying to blame women for 'making poor choices' if they happen to marry an abuser. And, it appears they are sending a message that, should you make this poor choice, you are stuck and can not leave. After all...it was YOUR decision to marry him. You just didn't pay attention to things, as mentioned in paragraphs 6. So now, you have to die on the mountain.

    Very twisted.

The part that really bugs me is paragraph 9 that says whether or "married or single, [a woman] should submit to the headship of spiritually qualified men who exercise oversight in the Christian congregation."

In other words, if you're so unfortunate enough to be a single female, you still can't be trusted to make any decisions on your own and are still expected to "obey" men, even though they're not your husband and may have the IQ of a complete dolt.

I know it doesn't say it in that paragraph, but the WTS wants both single and married men to be in subjection to the elders as well. The WTS doesn't think anyone knows what to do without their direction. The elders butt into the lives of single and married men too. I know this seems like I don't appreciate or understand how women are treated like secondary citizens. But they treat men with the same disregard. One thing that convinced my husband that the WTS was not the "truth" was the cruel way the elders treated other elders. Blondie

So even if it means death, women have to "be obedient" and follow Christ's model. What a bunch of manure.

How about reporting the abuser to the police and filing a restraining order?

That's not an option presented in the article because in the Watchtower world women have no rights. So Sick.

I have a question regarding paragraph #2. It says that, in the early 1960s, the ratio of men versus women who abandoned their families was 300:1. At the end of the 1960s, it had dropped to 100:1

Isn't 100:1 the same as 300:3? Wouldn't that be an increase of just 2 women per every 100 people who ABANDONED their family? Just how many people ABANDON their families each year? How about in the 60s?

You're right Justitia, it's rather confusing.......math is not my strong suit, so I'm not going to attempt to explain these numbers, but maybe someone who's good at stats and figures can. It's hard to determine the truthfulness in anything they say, because the Writing Department rarely, if ever, give a reference or bibliography on where they get their numbers from. More often than not, I think they just pluck the numbers out of thin air, just like they do dates and doctrines.
