What Is A Good Friend To You?

A good friend is one who can "dance" with me psychologically really well. When I move forward, he/she moves back, when I move back he/she moves forward. Our times together are always in flowing beautiful movements back and forth emotionally, supportively.

Manners are important to me. I try not to insult or grab all the attention. I try to inspire and enthuse and upbuild others and I like my friends to do the same for me. I like honesty and want my friends to be honest with me.

I find most people lacking in the qualities I need in a true friend. I found two men with good qualities---and married them both. The second one has more love in his heart. So I married my two best male friends.
My best girl friends are JWs and so now I never see them anymore. But I think about them often and love them
    in my heart. (Thankyou WTS!)

I can honestly say I do not have a good friend . I am trying to make new relationships with some of the people I work with and we have gone out ect. But nothing close knit yet. To me a good friend is someone you just can call at anytime or that will drop by at anytime, and are always welcome. They give and take equally and can be trusted . A good friend will give you the benefit of the doubt. Will accept you the way you are and not try to make a mini-me clone out of you. I learned a life lesson the hard way . I use to have a good friend several years ago . I ruined that relationship because I allowed an elders wife to convince me to end the friendship. The elders wife , the good friend and I had all been close . The good friend had always been a "weak" witness with a worldly husband . When her son was getting to be a teen she allowed him many freedoms . She began to miss the meetings and everyone stopped associating with her except for me . One day the elders wife came over and threatened she would stop associating with me if I didn't stop spending time with the other friend .She said I had to see that the other friend was now worldly and bad association. I tearfully told this to my good friend and at the time thought it was the hard ,but right thing to do . I always felt horrible about it. Whenever I ran into her at the store we would talk and catch up with current family news. Several years later I came to her home and apologized for my behavior , but I realized I had lost the trust we use to have with each other . Last week I saw her husband and children at the local bar . I told him how sorry I was for the past and that I wanted them to know I no longer am an active witness . He told me were she now worked and I have seen her twice since then . I am hoping we can get a new start .

An old man once told me, though gruesome, if taken metaphorically it works for me.

A friend is someone that will help you move; A good friend is someone that will help you move... a body. Sounds about right.

    On the day you die......

If your family is there, ... and one or two trusted friends.

Your life has been a success.

I'm not really close to anyone. My mom and sisters live out of town, and all of them are afraid to drive on the highway to come and see me. The only time I see them is when I drive there. The only good friend I have lives on the other side of town. He works at night and generally sleeps when I'm awake. If I died in my home it would probably take a month before someone thought to break down my door to see if I still exist.

Someone who helps during a time of need. Someone who is not arrogant or disrespectful.

I have become good friends with a lady I work with named Sandra, and she is the best kind of friend anyone could want. If I'm having a bad day, I can cry on her shoulder. I can tell her absolutely anything personal and she never judges me or gossips to other co-workers behind anyone's back--which is an extreme rarity in the office I work in. I was there for her when she was separated from her husband, and now she is there for me when I have similar issues. I have a couple other girlfriends, but Sandra is the most loyal person I've ever met. I know I could call her day or night if I had an emergency and she would not make excuses that she's busy like other friends might. Nobody is perfect, but she is the most sincere friend I have ever met. I want to be more like her.

Some of you sound sad because you don't have close friends--believe me I didn't either for many years while being a JW and after coming out of that cult. Give yourself some time--the best places I've met people is through my different jobs.
