"Losing My Religion" by REM. I know it's obvious but it does it for me everytime.

    Life is bigger
    It's bigger than you
    And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
    The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
    I set it up
    That's me in the corner
    That's me in the spotlight
    Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
    I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
    Every whisper
    Of every waking hour I'm
    Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
    I set it up
    Consider this
    The hint of the century
    Consider this
    The slip that brought me
    To my knees failed
    What if all these fantasies
    Come flailing around
    Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
    That was just a dream

There are many pieces that take me back to good/bad periods of my life, but I really can't think of any song that takes me back to my final realisation that I was now free from the bOrg.

When I realised that I had been had, I got out my Jethro Tull album, Aqualung, and re-read the back cover.

"In the beginning Man created God: and in the image of man he created him.

"And Man gave unto God a multitude of names, that he might be Lord over all the earth when it was suited to Man.

Ian Anderson had presented me with this valuable insight many, many, many years ago......

    And I hadn't listened.

    God bless him for trying.

"The boys are back in town" by Thin Lizzy, reminds me of when my friend was coming out of prison.

"Drops of Jupiter" by Train. I was breaking up with my partner. It was definately over. He was a total arse. Then this song came out and he bought me it and left it in my house. I played it about 30 times and sobbed my heart out because it was like he had read my insides.

(another friend bought it for me in the same week because he said it reminded him of me too)

"She acts like summer and walks like rain
reminds me that theres a time to change

Now that shes back from that soul vacation
tracing her way through the constellation
She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-bo
reminds me that theres room to grow

Now that shes back in the atmosphere
Im afraid that she might think of me as Plain ol' Jane
Told a story 'bout a man who was too afraid to fly so he never did land

Tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet
Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day
And head back to the Milky Way
And tell me, did Venus blow your mind
Was it everything you wanted to find
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you're wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance, five hour phone conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had...and me

I hate it when this happens. Never mind, one post nearer to the adulation of a "Fe2O3Girl is a Jedi" thread - the high fives, air kisses and cangrats............oh hang on..................

  • Fe2O3Girl

    I can't resist these threads.

When I first left my JW husband, there was a TV advert for VW Golf that depicted a woman leaving court after her divorce, taking off her wedding ring and driving joyfully off into the sunset in her Golf. The soundtrack was Feelin' Good by Nina Simone. I love that tune. It brings back the euphoria of those first weeks of freedom.

    It’s a new dawn
    It’s a new day
    It’s a new life
    For me
    And I’m feeling good

And Calypso by Suzanne Vega is my breaking up song.

    And though he pulled away
I kept him here for years
    I let him go

    It's a lonely time ahead
I do not ask him to return
    I let him go
    I let him go

The night I da'd, I heard Wasn't Born To Follow by the Byrds. That song will always remind me of that night

Oh I'd rather go and journey where the diamond crest is flowing and
Run across the valley beneath the sacred mountain and
    Wander through the forest
Where the trees have leaves of prisms and break the light in colors
That no one knows the names of

And when it's time I'll go and wait beside a legendary fountain
Till I see your form reflected in it's clear and jewelled waters
And if you think I'm ready
You may lead me to the chasm where the rivers of our vision
    Flow into one another

I will want to die beneath the white cascading waters
She may beg, she may plead, she may argue with her logic
And then she'll know the things I learned
That really have no value in the end she will surely know
    I wasn't born to follow
