NO medical records department would EVER let any family members let alone jws access to a patients files, it is between doctor and patient, doesn't matter what paper they show up with signed by patient. What are they gonna say? Just wanted to look at his / her file? The jws are giving themselves too much credit for thinking people pay all this attention to them and their sillyness........

Tell him that it is PHI (Private Health Information). Asking you for that information is a HIPAA violation.

You gotta love that statement about a witness being of sound mind not under duress. Nope, no pressure here to sign their stupid form.

Don't you just love how they word things to hold up in the courts? No Judge, this Witness made a personal choice to follow us. Nevermind how it has been drummed into them that there is no salvation without the WT and you will be ostracized for non-compliance. If just one legal precedent could be won.........

Oh, and the "undue influence" phrase is priceless.

Tell the guy that you are concerned about being stalked by someone in the cong. When he asks who, point straight at him and say "you, ya bullying, controling twat! Now back off".

It should put a stop to it.

These guys need to get a life.

Slim, you don't need to worry about them seeing your medical records. I work in the NHS, in admin at a local hospital, and I know that, whatever document they turn up with, they wouldn't be able to view confidential information like that. If you file a statement with your doctor instructing him to ignore the blood card and not inform the HLC in case of emergency, then they won't be informed. You are the one in control in matters such as this, not the jw elders.

If you are not ready to leave the org at the moment, and I know from reading your previous posts that you are inactive, then just don't carry the card. If you are unsure, then, for peace of mind, have a word with your GP as well.

    I hope this helps

fullofdoubtnow......how does a person stand if theyre unconscious and there is no medical directive available but the next of kin say the person is a jw and isn't allowed blood?

nelly, you would need to have left instructions that, in the event of a medical emergency in which you require blood, that you approve of it's use, whether you are conscious or not. Obviously, your relatives would be informed of your condition, but if you have stated that you are prepared to accept blood, the doctors would comply with your decision. Jehovahs Witness relatives or elders objections would be overruled. Obviously, the jws would be made aware that you had made this decision. If you are still attending meetings, there would inevitably be repercussions, but in no circumstances would any jw be able to prevent you from receiving the treatment you need. It would help, of course, if you are not carrying a blood card, and you can inform your GP and even the local hospital of your requirements, perhaps with a signed statement. This is something both myself and dedpoet have done, but we do not have jw relatives and we are both da'd anyway.

    I hope this helps

    Just use theocrappic strategy,

Say you filled it in. (It's in the bin and the bin is filled with it) Don't let them keep playing games with you.

The WT has lied to you and deceived you, so they deserve the same treatment. As for reading medical records - it would quickly spread via the elderettes that you had haemorroids, a wart on your weener, hepatitis or whatever. Then the gossip mill would go into overdrive making up reasons why you had these things. (Anal sex, promiscuity and too much booze) Your reputation would be gone, and the elders would prolly harrass you even more!!

That is a quite an intrusive act by the cultic elder but probably he's got the COs to worry about if things are not in order, but you shouldn't accept them to interfere in your personal issues in that way. If you can neutralise this card in an unperceived way then do so.

It is quite unusual for a Book Study Overseer to be constantly asking you about filling in a blood card as the whole emphasis is that completing the card shouldn't be done under duress. None of the elders in my congregation make any effort to "follow up" the brothers to ensure that their card is completed. If any did , they would get a lot of hassle from the other elders.

There have been some cases in the UK where certain officious NHS authorities have refused access to patients from church ministers (including JWs) by quoting Data Protection legislation and patient confidentiality. The issue was raised in Westminster http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200102/cmhansrd/vo020625/halltext/20625h03.htm and more recently in the Scottish Parliment and Welsh and Northern Ireland Assemblies. The clause asking for permission to allow the HLC to have access to the patient records was added following a meeting with the Home Office to try to circumvent this problem. The notion , promoted by certain opposed ex-witnesses in the UK , that this is some kind of underhand move to "snoop" on JW hospital patients and insist that they abstain from blood transfusions is , sadly , yet another apostate lie.
