WALKING IN THE PATH OF INCREASING LIGHT

"The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter
and lighter until the day is firmly established. "-PROVERBS 4:18.

    Opening Comments

“A new light of truth can never contradict a former truth. 'New light' never extinguishes older 'light,' but adds to it. If you were lighting up a building containing seven gas jets you would not extinguish one every time you lighted another, but would add one light to another and they would be in harmony and thus give increase of light: So it is with the light of truth; the true increase is by adding to, not by substituting one for another” (Watchtower Reprints, February 1881, 188).

WHO can better describe the effect that the rising sun has on the darkness of the night than the very Source of light, Jehovah God? (Psalm 36:9) `When the morning light takes hold on the ends of the earth,' God says, `the earth transforms itself like clay under a seal, and things take their station as in clothing.' (Job 38:12-14) With increasing light from the sun, earth's features take shape and become clearer, just as soft clay undergoes a transformation upon receiving an imprint from an emblem on a seal.

With increasing light from the sun, earth's features take shape and become clearer

Have you ever mistaken something in the dark for a danger? What if you were armed? What if you shot only to find out it was your spouse who had gotten up to go to the bathroom?

Is that what the WTS has been doing for years, shooting in the dark?

If you have a shot in the dark at something, you try something where you have little hope of success.

an attempt to guess something when you have no information or knowledge about it.

A wild, unsubstantiated guess; also, an attempt that has little chance for success.

2 Jehovah is also the Source of spiritual light. (Psalm 43:3) While the world remains in dense darkness, the true God continues to shed light upon his people. With what result? The Bible answers: "The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established." (Proverbs 4:18) Increasing light from Jehovah continues to illuminate the path of his people. It refines them organizationally,
    doctrinally, and morally.

    Enlightenment Leads to Organizational Refinements

3 Through the prophet Isaiah, Jehovah foretold: "Instead of the copper I shall bring in gold, and instead of the iron I shall bring in silver, and instead of the wood, copper, and instead of the stones, iron." (Isaiah 60: 17) Just as replacing an inferior material with a superior one denotes improvement, Jehovah's Witnesses have experienced improvements in their organizational arrangements all through "the conclusion of the system of things," or "the last
    days."-Matthew 24:3; 2 Timothy 3:1.

4 In the early part of the last days, the congregations of Bible Students, as Jehovah's Witnesses were then known, democratically elected their elders and deacons. Some elders, however, did not have the genuine spirit of evangelizing. Some not only were reluctant to participate in the preaching work themselves but also discouraged others from sharing in it. So in 1919 a new office was instituted in each congregation-that of a service director. The service director was not elected by the congregation but was appointed theocratically to his position by the branch office of God's people. The responsibilities of the appointed director included organizing the preaching work, assigning territories, and encouraging participation in the field ministry. During the years that followed, the Kingdom-preaching work received a tremendous stimulus.

Bible Students, as Jehovah's Witnesses were then known

Did you know that there are many individual Bible Student groups and congregations still in existence and functioning quite zealously?

    http://www.biblestudents.net/history/daughters_tower.htm

Rutherford acts as if no preaching was done of any importance before 1919.

SOME elders, however, did not have the genuine spirit of evangelizing

How many is some? What was really happening was that some did not support Rutherford's takeover of the WTS and Rutherford had no control over these elders as long as they were selected within the congregation.

    1919--service director....appointed theocratically--handpicked by Rutherford.

Also, Rutherford himself never went door to door and only "counted" the time he spent lecturing.

What proof does the WTS give that these discouraged others?

Blurb on page 27: The 1922 Cedar Point, Ohio, convention invigorated the Bible Students to do God's work

5 All in the congregation were further invigorated by the exhortation "Advertise, advertise, advertise, the King and his kingdom," given in 1922 at the Bible Students' convention at Cedar Point, Ohio, U.S.A. By 1927 field service was organized to the point that Sunday was designated as the most suitable day for participating in the house-to-house preaching work. Why that day? Because Sunday was the day when most people were off work. Jehovah's Witnesses today manifest the same spirit by endeavoring to call on people at times when they are most likely to be at home, such as on weekends and in the evenings.

Sunday was designated as the most suitable day for participating in the house-to-house preaching work...when most people were off work.

So do JWs in your congregation make Sunday a big day for field service? Are people home during the weekdays when so many pioneers go out?

Does that mean that before 1927 no one went out on Sundays and that preaching was not 'organized'? I can confirm that they did go out and it was organized, and my grandparents were part of that.

    Weekends and in the evenings

Do JWs support evening witnessing? How many did or do go out in your congregation? I pioneered for many years and few if any went out, maybe 4 or 5 out of a congregation of 100.

6 A great impetus to the Kingdom proclamation work came on Sunday afternoon, July 26, 1931, when a resolution was adopted, first at a convention in Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A., and thereafter around the world. In part, the resolution stated: "We are servants of Jehovah God commissioned to do a work in his name, and, in obedience to his commandment, to deliver the testimony of Jesus Christ, and to make known to the people that Jehovah is the true and Almighty God; therefore we joyfully embrace and take the name which the mouth of the Lord God has named, and we desire to be known as and called by the name, to wit, Jehovah's witnesses." (Isaiah 43:10) How clearly that new name defined the primary activity of all of those bearing that name! Yes, Jehovah had work for all his servants to share in. The overall response was enthusiastic indeed!

Who were Christians to be witnesses of?

(Acts 1:8) but YOU will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon YOU, and YOU will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Ju·de´a and Sa·mar´i·a and to the most distant part of the earth."
(Revelation 17:6) And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus.

Why did the WTS (Rutherford) take on the name "Jehovah's Witnesses"? To separate themselves from the Bible Students that had left, 75% of 90,434 who attending the memorial in 1925.

7 Many elders humbly devoted themselves to the preaching work. In some places, though, elected elders put up considerable resistance to the idea that everyone in the congregation should participate in the public ministry. However, further improvements were in sight. In 1932 the congregations received instruction through The Watchtower to discontinue the electing of elders and deacons. Instead, they were to elect a service committee composed of spiritual men who participated in the public preaching work. Oversight was thus entrusted to those who actively shared in the ministry, and the work moved ahead.

Many elders humbly devoted themselves to the preaching work.
In some places, though, ELECTED elders put up considerable resistance that everyone should participate.

Ask yourself, how often do you see the elders in the door to door work; even when they show up, they go off in car groups with other elders, MS, or their families. I guess that is why the WT I got recently tries to hammer home the old chestnut that the elders should work with the rank and file and "shepherd" them. Fat chance of that happening.

Discontinue the electing of elders and deacons...elect a service committee

Now that seems like a BIG change!

    Increased Light Means Further Improvements

8 The light was "getting lighter and lighter." In 1938 the use of elections was eliminated altogether. All servants in the congregation were to be appointed theocratically under the oversight of "the faithful and discreet slave." (Matthew 24:45-47) The change was readily accepted by practically all the congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses, and the work of witnessing continued to bear fruit.

    All servants...appointed...under...[FDS]

Under the control of the WTS, top down management, with the illusion that Christ and God were at the op.

    Readily accepted

All congregations had to sign a "loyalty" agreement or be dissolved.

    *** yb75 p. 166 United States of America (Part Two) ***

In 1938 there was another significant organizational development. The Watchtower articles "Unity in Action" (May 15) and "Organization" (June 1 and 15) showed that authority to appoint overseers and their assistants did not rest with individual congregations. It was suggested that congregations throughout the world consider a resolution presented in The Watchtower, requesting that "The Society" organize the congregation for service and "appoint the various servants thereof," that is, all those who would fill the positions of responsibility locally. (See The Watchtower for 1938, pages 169, 182, 183.) Most congregations adopted this resolution, and the few that did not soon lost their spiritual vision and the privileges they had in connection with Kingdom service.

    *** w71 12/1 p. 719 What Its "Right Condition" Means for Us Today ***

In the June 1, 1938, issue of The Watchtower appeared the first part of the article entitled "Organization." It was thrilling for worshipers at Jehovah's sanctuary to read these sentences of the opening paragraph: "Jehovah's organization is in no wise democratic. Jehovah is supreme, and his government or organization is strictly theocratic. This conclusion is not open to successful contradiction." The June 15, 1938, issue of The Watchtower published the second part of "Organization," and it set out a resolution for adoption by the congregations of Jehovah's witnesses, the opening paragraph of which said: "We, the company of God's people taken out for his name, and now at ___________, recognize that God's government is a pure theocracy and that Christ Jesus is at the temple and in full charge and control of the visible organization of Jehovah, as well as the invisible." (Page 182) This called for appointment theocratically, from the top down, for all officiating servants in all congregations.

    *** yb73 p. 116 The British Isles ***

The May 15 and June 1, 1938, issues of The Watchtower, dealing with the subject "Organization," contained a formal resolution calling on the Society to organize and direct operations and appoint all "servants." The Watchtower invited each congregation to adopt the resolution, notify the Society and attach a list of names of those whose maturity would qualify them for "servant" positions, with the request that the Society make appointments of those they chose. Practically all congregations readily agreed to do so. The effect was amazing. A general sense of invigoration prevailed. As world tension increased, joy over theocratic rule abounded.

9 Beginning October 1, 1972, another adjustment in congregational oversight became effective. The arrangement of oversight by a body of elders was instituted in the congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide, replacing oversight by just one congregation servant, or overseer. This new arrangement
has provided tremendous encouragement for mature men to qualify to take the lead in the congregation. (1 Timothy 3:1-7) As a result, a greater number of brothers have gained experience in caring for congregational responsibilities. How valuable they have proved to be in shepherding the many new ones who have accepted Bible truth!

    Adjustment.......

Oversight by a body of elders was instituted....replacing oversight by just one congregation servant

Yes, they went back to the arrangement before 1938 when there was a body of elders

Servants became overseers; think of it, instead of serving the rank and file, they would now be OVER them.

    How valuable

If elders are too busy to shepherd the rank and file today, how did they ever find time when there was only one congregation servant (actually assistant congregation servant and field service servant too)?

    Accepted Bible truth--accepted WTS doctrine

10 The members of the Governing Body were organized into six committees, and starting on January 1, 1976, all the activities of the organization and of the congregations around the earth came under the supervision of these committees. What a blessing it has proved to be to have all aspects of the Kingdom work directed by a "multitude of counselors"!-Proverbs 15:22; 24:6.

Governing Body were organized into six committees

With only 12 on the GB now, you might understand why men of the "other sheep' have been brought in as 'helpers' or Nethinim.

Do you think that the GB read the recommendations sent in on the elders and MS and pray over each one? Think again. It has been delegated to the non-anointed.

This change greatly undercut the power of Knorr and Fred Franz, but that is another story.

11 The year 1992 saw still another refinement, one that is comparable to what happened after the Israelites and others returned from exile in Babylon. Back at that time, there were not a sufficient number of Levites to care for temple service. So non-Israelite Nethinim were given more to do in helping the Levites. Accordingly, to assist the faithful and discreet slave class in caring for its increasing earthly interests, in 1992 some of the "other sheep" received added service responsibilities. They were appointed as helpers to the Governing Body committees.-John 10:16.

    Refinement...........

    Nethinim....non-Israelite

Some anointed are helpers too; the last 2 appointed to the GB were such.

12 What has resulted from all of this? "I will appoint peace as your overseers and righteousness as your task assigners," says Jehovah. (Isaiah 60:17) There is "peace" among Jehovah's servants today, and love of "righteousness" has become their `task assigner'-the force that impels them to serve God. They are well-organized to carry out the Kingdom-preaching and disciple-making work.-Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20.

There is "peace" among Jehovah's servants today

Peace? This guy has either never attended an elders' meeting or has a selective memory. Backbiting and gossip is the order of the day is most congregations. When you have a group trying to be "perfect" the only way to alleviate the pressure is to point the finger at someone else.

    Jehovah Illuminates the Path Doctrinally

13 Jehovah is also progressively illuminating the path of his people doctrinally. Revelation 12:1-9 provides an example. The account refers to three symbolic characters-"a woman" who is pregnant and gives birth, a "dragon," and "a son, a male." Do you know whom each figure represents? They were identified in an article entitled "Birth of the Nation," which appeared in the March 1, 1925, issue of The Watch Tower. That article gave God's people a better understanding of the prophecies about the birth of the Kingdom, insight that made it clear that there exist two distinct organizations-Jehovah's and Satan's. Then in 1927/28, God's people recognized that Christmas and birthday celebrations are unscriptural, and they discontinued observing such.

    His people--only JWs

I wonder how many JWs know who the three symbolic characters are without checking?

    Organizations---see previous paragraph.

    Christmas/birthdays...discontinued observing such.

The WTS had no compunction in declaring their July 1, 1979 Watchtower a "special issue" celebrating a century of publication. The Watchtower Corporation also celebrated its own hundredth birthday as a Centennial to Remember in 1984! (WT 1985 January 1 p. 16)

    http://www.adam.com.au/bstett/JwBirthdays76.htm

14 The 1930's saw further light shed on three doctrinal truths. For years, the Bible Students had known that the great multitude, or the "great crowd," spoken of at Revelation 7:9-17 was different from the 144,000, who would rule with Christ as kings and priests. (Revelation 5:9, 10; 14:1-5) However, the identity of the great multitude remained unclear. Just as increasing morning light causes otherwise obscure objects to take on shape and color, in 1935 the great multitude was identified as those who survive "the great tribulation," with the prospect of living forever on earth. Later in the same year came a clarification that affected school-age children of Jehovah's Witnesses in a number of countries. While patriotic fervor was running high the world over, the Witnesses recognized that saluting the flag is much more than a mere formalism. In the following year, another doctrinal truth, that Christ died on a stake, not a cross, was explained.-Acts 10:39.

The identity of the great multitude remained unclear

But what was clear was that it was a heavenly group

    Increasing morning light

Only when it was clear that there would be more than 144,000 JWs claiming to be anointed and the end wasn't coming yet.

    Clarification...............

    Saluting the flag

Until 1936 the WT had a cross on the cover.............

    *** w95 5/15 p. 20 Flashes of Light-Great and Small (Part 1) ***

For many years the Bible Students made the cross prominent as a symbol of Christianity. They even had a "cross-and-crown" pin. According to the King James Version, Jesus asked his followers to take up their "cross," and many came to believe that he was executed on a cross. (Matthew 16:24; 27:32) For decades this symbol also appeared on the cover of the Watch Tower magazine.
The book Riches, published by the Society in 1936, made clear that Jesus Christ was executed, not on a cross, but on an upright pole, or stake. According to one authority, the Greek word (stau·ros´) rendered "cross" in the King James Version "denotes, primarily, an upright pale or stake. [It is] to be distinguished from the ecclesiastical form of a two beamed cross. . . . The latter had its origin in ancient Chaldea, and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz." Far from being idolized, the instrument on which Jesus was impaled should be viewed with revulsion.

15 In the wake of World War II, during which it had become standard practice to treat wounded soldiers with blood transfusions, there was increased light on the sanctity of blood. The July 1, 1945, issue of The Watchtower encouraged "all worshipers of Jehovah who seek eternal life in his new world of righteousness to respect the sanctity of blood and to conform themselves to God's righteous rulings concerning this vital matter."

    Blood transfusions

16 In 1946 a need was seen for a fresh Bible translation that took advantage of the latest scholarship and was not tainted by dogmas based on traditions of Christendom. Work on such a translation began in December 1947. In 1950 the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures was released in English. The Hebrew Scriptures in English came in five volumes, released progressively beginning in 1953. The final volume was released in 1960, a little over 12 years after the translation project began. The complete New World Translation o f the Holy Scriptures in one volume was released in 1961. Now available in many languages, this translation has some outstanding features. It restores the divine name, Jehovah. Moreover, its literal rendering of the original writings has provided the basis for continuous progress in the understanding of divine truth.

    Not tainted by dogmas

But tainted by the WTS dogma

Not a person who worked on the NWT had training in Greek and Hebrew of the time it was written.

    It restores the divine name

In places where it never appeared in the oldest manuscripts and not just in places where the NT quotes from the OT.

Is "Jehovah" the only way to render the divine name?

Did you know that the WTS has "updated" the NWT many times without revealing what those updates are?

Blurb on page 29: The "New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures"
    released in 1950, by N. H. Knorr

17 Clarification of "the superior authorities" of Romans 13:1 and the extent of a Christian's subjection to them came in 1962. An in-depth study of the 13th chapter of Romans and Scriptural texts such as Titus 3: 1, 2 and 1 Peter 2:13, 17 made it clear that the expression "superior authorities" refers, not to Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, but to human governmental authorities.

The WTS leaves out that they taught that the 'superior authorities' were the human governmental authorities until 1929 and then changed it (wrongly) to God and Jesus and then back to "old light" in 1962.

    http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/superior.htm

18 In the years that followed, the path of the righteous ones continued to get brighter and brighter. In 1985 light was shed upon what it means to be declared righteous "for life" and righteous as a friend of God. (Romans 5:18; James 2:23) The meaning of the Christian jubilee was thoroughly explained in 1987.

Only anointed are declared righteous for life........and the rank and file as a friend of God showing how they are made secondary to the anointed.

Christian jubilee--the WTS has misapplied that many times especially in determining 1925 as the year when the "ancient worthies" would be resurrected to rule on earth in Jerusalem. (See Millions Will Never Die booklet)

19 In 1995 the separating of "the sheep" from "the goats" was more clearly understood. The year 1998 saw the detailed explanation of Ezekiel's temple vision, which is already in the course of fulfillment. In 1999 came clarification of when and how `the disgusting thing stands in a holy place.' (Matthew 24:15, 16; 25:32) And in 2002 further discernment was gained regarding what it means to worship God "with spirit and truth." John 4:24.

In 1995...........separating...yes it was discovered that the judging would not take place until the great tribulation started. That meant that all non-JWs who died had a better if not automatic resurrection to earth.

    in 1995...........1914 generation done away with....................Nothing mentioned.............Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

    Clarification

Disgusting thing (UN) did not stand in a holy place in 1919 as they had taught for 80 years.

Discernment..............do you remember what was discerned in 2002? No peeking.

20 In addition to the organizational and doctrinal refinements, there have been refinements with regard to Christian conduct. For example, in 1973 the use of tobacco was seen as a "defilement of flesh" and was to be viewed as serious wrongdoing. (2 Corinthians 7:1) A decade later, the July 15, 1983, issue of The
Watchtower clarified our position on the use of firearms. These are just some examples of the increasing light in our time.

Tobacco........actually there had been articles for years in the WTS. But then who was going to tell Rutherford to put down his cigars?

Firearms...yet many JWs spend valuable preaching time tromping through the woods looking for Bambi and missing the CO's visit.

Go On Walking in the Path of Increasing Light

21 "Accepting a change when it comes and adapting to it can be difficult," admits one longtime elder. What has helped him accept the many refinements he has witnessed in the 48 years that he has been a Kingdom proclaimer? He answers: "Having the right attitude is the key. Refusing to accept a refinement is to be left behind as the organization moves ahead. If I find myself in a situation where changes seem hard to accept, I reflect on Peter's words to Jesus: `Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life.' Then I ask myself, `Where shall I go away to-out there into the darkness of the world?' This helps me to hold firmly to God's organization."-John 6:68.

    A change........refinements

    Right attitude

Whom (not where) shall we go away to? Were the disciples abandoning an organization?

Is abandoning the WTS man-made doctrines abandoning Christ?

22 The world around us is certainly in dense darkness. As Jehovah continues to shed light on his people, the gap between them and those of the world keeps on widening. What does this light do for us? Well, just as shining a spotlight on a pothole on a dark roadway does not remove the hole, light from God's Word does not remove pitfalls. Yet, divine light surely helps us to avoid them so that we can continue walking in the path of increasing light. Let us, then, continue to pay attention to Jehovah's prophetic word, "as to a lamp shining in a dark place."-2 Peter 1:19.

    The world--all non-JWs

Gap between them and those of the world keeps on widening

Yes, because the non-JWs will soon all die, be destroyed, as wicked, all 6 billion, men, women and little babies.

    Pay attention to God's prophetic word or the WTS failed prophecies, 1874, 1914, 1915, 1920, 1925, 1940's, 1975.

    Concluding Comments

Can you think of some "increasing light" that the WTS missed?

How about that until 1970 they taught that the great tribulation started in 1914, went on hiatus in 1918, to start again in the future?

    *** w70 1/15 p. 52 Peace with God amid the "Great Tribulation" ***

On account of his "chosen ones" he cuts short the days. How? Back in the year 1925 the suggestion was set out in the leading article of the Watch Tower issue of May 1, entitled "For the Elect's Sake," that "those days" of the "great tribulation" were cut short in the middle. The explanation was given that the "great tribulation" had begun in 1914 C.E. and that it was not allowed to run its full course then but God stopped World War I in November of 1918. From then on God was allowing an interval for the activity of his anointed remnant of elect Christians before he let the final part of the "great tribulation" resume at the battle of Armageddon and come to its termination. This would allow for sheeplike persons to be saved.-Matt. 25:31-46.

    Of how about this:

Although singing in local congregations was largely dispensed with in about 1938, it was revived again in 1944 and continues to be a significant feature of the congregation meetings and convention programs of Jehovah's Witnesses.

I wonder why music was banned from 1938 to 1944?

    Good summary Blondie,

I hope that some active JWs get to see what you have written in order to have reality check on the spin the Watchtower always puts on their history.

Good morning, Blondie. Do you think this article is gearing up the people for some "new light"?

My JW hubby's been talking about refining the "truth" all week. Yes, this is the week to talk about ever brightening light. He finally got to me. So I decided to give him an object lesson. I held up a lemon. "This is a lemon. That is the truth. This is actually an orange. That is not truth. Truth doesn't change or refine, it just is." I also told him the ever changing doctrines of the Watchtower society makes them like every other religion, no different.

The poor elder testifying in paragraph 21 is really stretching. "Accepting a change when it comes and adapting to it can be difficult" What an understatement. Especially if he is not allowed to use his personal thinking power to challenge or question the change. He is also quite right to say, "Refusing to accept a refinement is to be left behind as the organization moves ahead." Returnees like my hubby are frequently stumbled. I see similar confusion on the faces of the old-timers. My hubby often discovers that the firm truths he learned ten years ago no longer apply. Another shifting "truth" over the years is whether the resurrected ones come back youthful or old-and-trim.

I find it most revealing that one of the more powerful bait-and-switch tactics of the society is laid out in print.

"I reflect on Peter's words to Jesus: 'Lord, whom whal we go away to? You have syaings of everlasting life' Then I ask myself, 'Where shall I go away to - out there in to the darkness of the world?'" (emphasis mine) I like how Ozziepost puts it. He never left God, he simply left the organization. He remains a vital Christian to this day.

I helped dad pack up his kitchen this week. He's sold the house he had together with my stepmom, and is downsizing to a home with fewer stairs. He's decided to landscape the new property with rose bushes. ROSE BUSHES? My dad never fails to surprise me.

Firearms... yet many JWs spend valuable preaching time tromping through the woods looking for Bambi and missing the CO's visit.

    Great work blondie,

    ah the memories ..

When the firearm new light™ came out I was an MS™ and had several young brothers™ working for me who pleaded for me to find a way for them to keep their rifles. Leaving them with farmer cousins was about the only spiritual™ way out but I was a tad bolshe about slackers, so had them get rid of all their guns and amo. lol (probably a touch of "if i can't have one - you can't either."

Great work blondie. I think they went right after some of your favourite flip/flops, the sodom/gomorrah resurrection doctrines. Its almost like they are answering your weekly reviews - a rebuttal. Maybe someone here dropped a request in the society's suggestion box :-)

Notice how much time and space is spent on justifying their own hierchy of power and authority.

then a little orwellian history lesson to give the R & F some vague ammunition to combat the obvious influence the internet has on potential converts.

As long as it kind of makes sense to them, they can rationalize when they are pointed to older publications - and now that they have a few line to memorize - they can deflect those pesky doubt scratchin JWD/Quotes/Re-examine pdf files of ACTUAL WT history.

No more need to look it up! its all been explained! LOL its new light!

Seems like they want some zealous wanna be to suggest going back to evening & sunday d2d work! They make it sound like that is what most congos already do! So lets not fall behind - we don't have to be told - we decide this ourselves! lol

How much time spent on individual spiritual growth?

they waste so much time on tangibles, details and technicalities, then they produce a whole herd of the same.

This is a pure case of covering your tracks (or covering your tacking!)
