For some of the decent CO's that I've met, I almost feel sorry for them. If the whole org. crumbles(lets hope) all they are qualified for is being a walmart greeter.

I remember Bennett, little short guy, had him for a DO.

    DaCheech:

She confided in me that someone took some porn pictures and replaced the face with her husband and slapped the picture with a note on their auto

Someone replaced the face with her husbands.....sure, thats what happened... right....

I wonder how they are going to find enough CO's, they have trouble getting enough brothers to be MS's. My father has been on for 14 years now and is one of the long serving ones in Aust. Few last more than 2 circuits, about 6 years these days.

Where are they getting the new COs...well, right from the ranks of Bethel...that's one of the choices for those who are being downsized.

Other sources are married pioneer elders who have no children or whose children are grown and are in fairly good health. They put the new COs and DOs through a rigorous battery of health tests before they sign them on. Then the only danger is that the younger ones will get pregnant and the older ones will have to leave to take care of elderly parents.

As far as I know, the traveling men don't pay into social security or the equivalent so what do they retire on, where will they live............

Around here too the COs don't get much respect; not that some deserve it. But it is discouraging.

As far as I know... they do not get anything unless they've worked before that.

The ones that retire penniless are put in some KH basement apt

I remember Bennett; he was a real jerk. He would regularly reduce the Saturday morning student speakers to tears by ripping their talks apart.

I was so glad when he rode off into the sunset.

Unfortunately there is always some jerk willing to take the job. Lots of power and you get paid, so no more window cleaning for that pioneer.

An 'ex' friend of mine went on to become a CO and at the grand age of 41 his wife 'accidentally' got pregnant (I personally think she'd just had enough!!) The sad thing is they were left totally penniless, no house, no income, no qualifications. And now my mother goes on and on about how Jehovah has blessed them because they've been given so much.

As far as I can see, being 41, living in a council house in one of the worst areas because that's all they could get, and having a dead end job and a new baby.. .oh yes so blessed. Think she probably means they've been passed down lots of second hand furniture and are expected to be grateful, and sadly, probably are because at least it's their own.

Sad thing is this guy is amazingly smart, could have gone on to do anything he wanted. Even sadder, what he wanted was to be a CO.

And therein lies the problem! It's something the men want, but what's in it for the wives? Simply tagging along, never having a home of their own, sleeping in a different bed each week, having to smile all the times even when they feel like *****. It's just not natural. Worse than that, it's emotionally damaging!

I have a relative who is a CO and thats all he's ever wanted to be. He is also a jerk off, always has been so I am assuming that he is one also to the congs he visits . Though I havent seen them for a few yrs the last time I did I could see how worn out and tired his wife looked.

Ozzie this describes being an elder too... it is extremely emotionally damaging!
