Am I weird, in that I actually want the world to end?

Since leaving the Witnesses, I have noticed that I enjoy movies about the world ending. They might be movies about major disasters killing off the world (Deep Impact) or maybe movies about a world after civilization has fallen (The Postman, Waterworld). I even like those movies that show society falling apart in alien invasions (War of the worlds, Independence Day). I watch these movies all the time and actually find that I miss the idea of thinking the world would end. I always like the idea that society would just collapse one day and maybe the good within mankind would rise up to be the future and there would not just be a life of 40 hour work weeks and debt payments, or the next best gadget we can't live without. I wonder if others that were former Witnesses, miss the end of the world belief. Not that I want some God run society, I just feel there is still a possibility of a collapse of known order and actually hope for it. Who knows, could still happen ... or I am just a little crazy. Either way, I can deal with it.

I enjoy those types of movies too, and judging by the box office returns, a lot of people do. It's one thing to enjoy end of the world movies, it's another to really wish it would happen in real life. I mean, I really like my Internet, fast food, and porn. I would rather not do without those things.

Yah , like this one comedian I saw on comedy central . He said he thought it would be cool to die during the apocolypse just so when he was resurrected he could brag about dying in the friggen apocolypse .LMAO

Do you think you just long for a fresh start? Sometimes I get bitter over the decisions that I made earlier in life that have limited my ability to enjoy life now. The allure of a forever paradise is strong, where all those errors of your youth could be forgiven.

Not weird at all in that sense.

No, you're not wierd. It is possible that your end of the world wt wish is being expressed in a new way. Wt programming has a few levels. The bible knowledge part is just one level. Negative attitudes towards certain other orgs, or even hate is on another level. Those attitudes take a while to clear. In the meantime, they look for new object on which to fasten. For me, i spent a few yrs on some negative news sites which agreed w my general negativity toward certain powers.

I think a little has to do with all those years of wanting it. I think sometimes you feel small and want to actually make a difference beyond just simply getting by, and major events like that often bring either the worse or good out of people to actually stand up and be better people. I think as a society, we lack a common thread to actually do something and the peril of a major event like the ones in the movies could change that ... or they could cause mass panic and kill millions. It is like flipping the coin, you have a 50-50 chance at either outcome. I would like the fresh start in life though, with the knowledge I have now, but who wouldn't?

It took me a good many months to get over the fact that no paradise was on the way. My life centered around believing that if I could get through one more year, I wouldnt have to struggle to make a living. Creditors would all be gone. I'd never have to worry again.

Example: Sept of 2004 Toutatis flew by the earth at less than a million miles. I just knew it was going to hit. At the time I was struggling with my doubts about the org but still hadnt found this site. I though I was alone in my doubts and if an asteriod hit, I would not have to face the day I saw coming when I would be forced to leave.

I've now found contentment in searching for what I really believe in. Now I dont think about the end of the world much, although I dream of it often.

Did you ever read the book or see the movie version of "The Stand"?

The big question mark at the end was when Fran asks Stu, "Do you think it's really possible for people to change?"

I'd like to think "Yes" but I'm leaning toward "No"....

The Stand is one of my favorite Stephen King books, I should have listed that one in my movies I watch. Always liked that one a lot. I have been out of the Witness for a decade. I just think I find that the end of the world idea, was not so much wanting the paradise, as that peace never pleased me. I just like the core idea of taking society and cleaning out the mess and making getting things better. Kind of like a hard computer reboot. I an a child of sci-fi and actually loved the timeline of Star Trek and that it mentions that a huge war destroyed all put a few million humans in the early 21st century and from the ashes developed a society more directed to science advancement and peace and learning from the error of their past to move beyond the superfitial human existence to something better.
