    Activities in the World

(Updated with 2004 service year report)

The following charts are created based on the statistics published each year in the January 1st issue of The Watchtower. Data published from 1988 through 2004 were used. (2004 statistics was published in the February 1st, 2005 issue.)

    Highlight of 2004 Statistics

This year's Watchtower statistics shows very similar trends seen in the previous several years: plateauing in most developed countries in Europe, North America, and Japan, while continuing the steady growth in most of the African, South American countries, and those in the former Soviet Union. The number of those countries with negative or zero growth has increased from seven in 2003 to 22 in 2004.

The list of countries with zero or negative growth in 2004:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Czech, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hongkong, Hugary, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, USA.

While there are minor ups and downs, these overall trends in those so-called developed conutries seem to be very stable for close to one decade. If there is any small gain, that can be easily explained by the general population growth.

The door-banging routine has to be the most inefficient, idiotic, waste of time and money ever employed by a religion.

You have to wonder why God hasn't yet switched to Plan B of having the stones cry out.

I remember being told it was a good sign when there was no growth, it meant all the sheep had been found so the rest deserved to be slaughtered by Jehovah (though the word slaughtered was never used). It is so obvious that the methods of the JW's are out of touch and do not work. If they really loved their neighbour as told by Jesus they would be involved in charities etc. Then they would produce meaningful results and also help people. In 2004 the Baptists converted 600,000 people outside of the US, over 3 times that of the JWs. The figures speak for themselves.

Yes, the numbers are stabile, but (very slowly) decreasing all over Europe, Australia, Canada and the U.S.

The numbers for my country (Norway), are, per January 1st 2004: 14 553 JWs. In 1989, the number was 14 749.

And if you add overall population increase to this picture, I think the situation in all the western countries is getting desperate for the WTS. In some countries, like Belgium and Japan, the decrease is dramatic, it`s almost like the JW-activity in these countries is dying/on the brink of dying.

    And that`s a good thing!
