My Wife Got Baptized into the Organization Yesterday

As promised, I went with my wife to the assembly in Richmond, VA to watch my wife get baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Spirit directed organization.

The talks leading up to it were basically all propaganda and how the witnesses are the only true Christians and the rest of the world is a tool used by Satan to mislead Christians from serving Jehovah. I could only stomach the first half of the assembly on Saturday morning and my daughter and I played around outside the assembly hall the rest of the time.

Anyway, starting with the baptismal talk itself. That talk was a goldmine full of propaganda and fallacy designed to strengthen the resolve of the witnesses being baptized. Aside from my wife, I think only four other people were being baptized. Here are the highlights of the talk and my comments.

    • Satan is mad today because you are being baptized.

I love how they use Satan to make it appear that Jehovah's Witnesses who are studying are being somehow persecuted. A TRUE marking of a cult as according to Steve Hassan's book, this is practiced by the moonies as well.

Playing the Satan card like this makes it appear that individuals who care and are concerned about the path he or she is taking are simply tools of Satan the Devil. No doubt, the elder's wife has probably been feeding my wife this BS during her 'progression' in the 'truth.'
    • Warning against the influence of false teachings.

To which false teachings are they referring to? What about the Watchtower teachings? How do you know if they are true or not?
    • Paradise Earth and their hopes for living forever in it.

What about revelations teachings of a great crowd that will be in heaven?
    • Watching out for false religious influence and false teachings about the truth.

This is where they apparently thing that anyone who hears the truth might not respond favorably to it. However, how come Jehovah's Witnesses get so flippant and respond so unfavorably when you're trying to present facts about their religion to them? Is this Satan snatching aways the seeds that are being sown in their minds? Is this the individual witnesses hardening their hearts? If their religion is free from paganism, why the occultic connections with 1914 and pyramidology? What about their false 607 BCE teaching as related to the seven Gentile times?
    • We must quit touching the unclean thing.

An obvious Rutherford battle cry, a throw back to his era. So what is the unclean thing? According to them, all religious channels, religious material from Christendom, as well as attending any church and associating with any church sponsored event. (All of this was in the talk.) But what about pyramidology and how it was used to determine 1914? Why is the 607 BCE date not supported by anyone outside of the Watchtower?
    • Finally the baptismal questions were asked.

Baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the spirit directed organization! Is this sound doctrine?

Her parents were there, and they were estatic. Her father asked how I felt about it. I replied, "Her decision, her life. If it makes her happy, it makes me happy."

Now I am about to check out of this hotel room and get my daughter during their lunch intermission. She did not want to go today at all but her mom insisted that life is not all about fun and games and that she needs some spiritual things in her life as well. Daughter still did not want to go, I am going to rescue my child now.

I hope you will be able to give your daughter a balanced life . Will you be able to take her to a church of your choice ,or does your wife get to make all the decisions about religion ??

My Father allowed my Mom to make all the religious decisons in the family ....and it wasn't until he saw all the damage it did to us as adults that he realized he had made a bad choice all those years ago . He told me recently he wished he could go back and put his foot down on how much influence the witnesses had on his family .

What damage you may ask ? Well my oldest brother was Da'd at age 18 when I was 10 , I believed it was like a death for me . He went into the military and because of the witness brainwashing I suffered emotionally believing he would die at God's hand for his choice . I also was told those in the military would one day be made to turn on God's people even if they were family . That kind of thinking does damage to a childs mind . Also for years I was told to shun my own brother especially after I was baptised years later .

This religion can ,and will ruin family dynamics if you are not very careful and very active in your childs life . Be conscious to what she is being exposed to.

We were also told not to believe everything our Father told us because since he wasn't a Witness he was being used by Satan to influence us ....Yeah YOU may think that's far-fetched and will NEVER happen in your family .........But just you wait .......I can remember at a very early age being subtly taught not to trust unbelieving relatives including my Dad and Grandparents ....

What is your plan for your child in School ? will she be able to celebrate holidays or birthdays ? Will she be able to do after school activities ? Run for class office when she is older ,go to school dances ? What if she is in an accident will your wife interfere if she needed a blood transfusion ???

I hope you discuss these issues openly with your wife now before she is encouraged to go behind your back on some of these things ....

I am sorry but she is a grown up and can make her own choices. My dad was in your position and made sure that we were not isolated he set some ground rules that stood us in good stead later in life. My mum respected that he was head of the house and complied with his decisions and I am grateful to them both for that. Your positive influence will be of much benefit to your daughter she is luckier than she knows.

My condolences to you and your daughter, please make sure that they do not get hold of your daughter and lie and decieve her into thinking that you are the one that is wrong in not accepting this cult.

We will be thinking of you in your fight for what is right.

They really like to isolate their flock, don't they? I guess it makes them feel all special inside.

We must quit touching the unclean thing.

This also means don't masturbate or have oral sex if I remember correctly. Oh, and no toe sucking either.

Well, I wish you the best of luck Gary. You have a tough road ahead of you.

I am going to rescue my child now.

I think this is called 'foreshadowing'.

GARYNEAL- I'm sorry my friend. We will be here for you, I think you know that. Your wife has , unfortunately, not of her own authentic thinking chosen to be brought under deceptive cult mind control by being duped into believing it is true. It was the " cult " part of her personality that chose to be baptized- not the authentic personality she was really born with.

Like other posters said, the best thing you can do is help guide your daughter properly through her growing up life and do ANYTHING you can to prevent her from being captured bythe mind control cult- Jehovah's Witnesses. Share lots of authentic, non-witness activities with your daughter so she can see that life is good outside the cult - not evil as put forth by the alleged " Satan ". I'm sure you will do fine with your daughter. All you can do with the wife is show her unconditional love as a husband. Just avoid doctrinal fights- it will just get you frustrated. Which you certainly don't need at this juncture considering your wife's decision. You will have enough challenges ahead of you. Hang in there guy, we are here for you

Keep this thought in the back of your mind:

"Baptism is the FIRST STEP in becoming an XJW."

    I wish you domestic tranquility.
