    Dear tryingtoexit,

Wow..your wife, and now your Dad? Poor dear!! Here is a chart with scriptures I posted a long time ago regarding this subject. Using scriptures and BM#s it PROVES 607 is wrong!!! I'd like to know how your Dad will respond to this?? Here it is...keep us posted.

    Sincerely,

    Lady Liberty

    Hi everyone,

I just made this chart for my brother-in-law using the Bible as well as the book entitled Assyrian & Babylonian Chronicles by A.K. Grayson printed in 1975. Grayson is a world renound expert used to decipher the Assyrian and Babylonian Chronicles for the British Museum. I checked out this book from the local library. Although they had to send away to a College University for it. A interesting note: the Society uses this very book in the Insight Vol.2 under Nebuchadnezzar to support their dates. When I got this book, it was for the purpose of checking their dates and quotes of this author. As you will see by this chart, they have misquoted him to serve their own deceitful purpose! I included scriptures that support the chronicles. Like I said, I made this for my brother-in-law, but thought someone out there might be able to use it.

    Have a great night!

That is a very weakly reasoned site. It can be argued that the 70 years hold accurate with a 587 date - see http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/607-1914.php

However, here is an important point to hit your father with. The 70 years does not have to be literal. The Watchtower cherry picks which prophecies are literal years and which are not for convenience. For example, the Watchtower claims the prophecy of Tyre is not a literal 70 years, even though it is during the same period of time.

"Isaiah goes on to prophesy: "It must occur in that day that Tyre must be forgotten seventy years, the same as the days of one king." (Isaiah 23:15a) … He says: "These nations will have to serve the king of Babylon seventy years." (Jeremiah 25:8-17, 22, 27) True, the island-city of Tyre is not subject to Babylon for a full 70 years, since the Babylonian Empire falls in 539 B.C.E. Evidently, the 70 years represents the period of Babylonia's greatest domination-when the Babylonian royal dynasty boasts of having lifted its throne even above "the stars of God." Isaiah's Prophecy- Light For All Mankind 1 p. 253

There is no reason that this same reasoning could not be applied to Jerusalem, except that it would undermine the doctrine of 1914.

There is ample archaeological proof to show that Jerusalem did not fall in 607 and the Watchtower undermines it's argument that the 70 years is based on the Bible when it says Tyre was not a literal period.

Wow, your dad is an elder and he is surfing the net for anti-apostate websites!? He is disobeying the Society's firm advice that JW's should only do research using sources of information authorised by the Society.

Firstly, tell your father that you will only read that website if he reads Carl Olof Jonsson's book or Ray Franz's book. Why should he expect you to read non-authorised research supporting the Watchtower Society on this matter if he is not prepared to read alternative research opposing the Society's views? Otherwise he is a hypocrite.

Then point out to him that the whole 607v586 argument is moot anyway, because the symbolic 'tree' that was chopped down was never Jerusalem. If he likes surfing websites on these matters then refer him to this one http://www.bric.uk.com/Appendix.html#App18

THE VISION OF THE FELLED TREE.

This second and last dream vision God gave to Nebuchadnezzar was of an immense symbolic tree, visible to the extremity of the whole earth which had a figurative heart of a man, it had good foliage and enough fruit to feed everybody. At a time set, a 'holy watcher' gives the command to chop this tree down but to leave its stump in the earth for a period of 'seven times', during this seven times its symbolic heart of a man would change to that of a beast. After the 'seven times' runs out, God would set up a Kingdom over the Earth and he would present it to the lowliest one of mankind.

Daniel again explains its significance to Nebuchadnezzar. He tells him the tree represented the Babylonian king and world power. At an appointed time a 'holy angel' of God would make a proclamation to chop the tree down. God manipulated world events to see to it that this Babylonian world power was chopped down. The world powers following would not have a man's heart but would act as if they had a beast's heart until a period of time referred to as 'seven times' lapsed and then God would set up his Kingdom over the world of mankind (Daniel chapter 4).

Nebuchadnezzar again undergoes a small scale physical portrayal of this situation by going insane for 7 years acting like a beast (beasts heart given the tree).

    TWO VISIONS OF BABYLONIAN DYNASTY

These two visions were specifically given by God to Nebuchadnezzar because they both started from him and related to the same subject. The head of gold in the first statue vision and the tree in his second vision were both confirmed as representing Nebuchadnezzar's Babylonian dynasty. The subject was the passing of time from the Babylonian world power until the take over of world rulership by God's Kingdom. Nebuchadnezzar experienced minor illustrative fulfilment's of both of these visions but they were obviously not the main application or meaning of the visions, he was a puppet used to act out greater events. This must be the case, because the vision was not completed with him, the Most high did not become the ruler of mankind when Nebuchadnezzar regained his sanity seven years later (Dan 4:22-37).

This vision dealt with the subject of subsequent world rulerships, ending when God's rulership takes over. The event from the cutting down of the tree spans a period of 'seven times'. So how long is this seven times? When does it start and when does it finish?

First; when does it start? We are told the tree represents Nebuchadnezzar, or more accurately the Babylonian dynasty. So when was it chopped down? According to the vision at a time when a proclamation is given by the 'watcher' or 'holy one'. When did this proclamation occur? The answer is in the very next chapter following the account of the tree vision inserted out of chapter time sequence. If the writer deliberately linked them together is he trying to tell us something?

THE DECREE OF THE HOLY WATCHER

The following chapter 5 of Daniel records what happened on the very last day of this Babylonian dynasty. Belshazzar the ruling descendant of Nebuchadnezzar, was holding a feast when a holy watcher arrives and marks out a decree, the hand of an angel materialises and writes four words on the wall, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Peres. The kings knees knock in terror at this event, understandable, he eventually summonses Daniel to explain the angel's written proclamation.

Daniel directly links this proclamation written on the wall, back to the tree vision that he had explained many years earlier to his forefather Nebuchadnezzar. He reminded Belshazzar that the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar his kingdom, greatness, dignity and majesty but he became arrogant needing to be pulled down a peg or two by God (he went crazy for seven years) until he appreciated that it was God who gave him his position (Daniel 5:18-21) .

Likewise Belshazzar and his Babylonian dynasty were going to be pulled down because he also did not recognise that Yahweh had been using the Babylonians as his servant, backing their control of the Earth's nations by means of his power. This backing was about to run out, as the prescribed 70 year period had reached its end. Before Daniel explained the meaning of the words written on the wall by the holy watcher, he linked them back to the prophetic tree vision that Nebuchadnezzar had received some 50 odd years earlier (Daniel 4:23-37 with Daniel 5:18-21) .

Daniel now proceeds to read and interpret the words on the wall, telling Belshazzar that the number of days God allocated the Babylonian dynasty, had run out. The 70 year period (Jeremiah 25:12) had been measured off and the designated time for its end had arrived, his Babylonian kingdom was about to be given over to the Persians.

    THE BABYLONIAN TREE CUT DOWN

God manoeuvred Cyrus the Persian to take over world rulership cutting down the Babylonian dynasty, (Isaiah 44:28, 45:1) . That very night, as foretold 77 years earlier by Jeremiah, the Persians captured Babylon and became the next world dynasty. Jeremiah said that when the Jewish exiles had served out their required seventy years punishment sentence under the Babylonian's then God would call an accounting against Babylon and would end their dynasty.

In the year 538 BC, the seventy years of exile ran out, Cyrus captured Babylon and Belshazzar was killed. God's ex-servant, the Babylonian dynasty was now cut down. In 538 BC the tree in Nebuchadnezzar dream, representing this Babylonian dynasty, received its proclamation from the 'holy watcher' to "Chop the tree down" by way of the angels writing on the wall. This command of the watcher to cut the Babylonian Dynasty down was immediately carried out by Cyrus wielding the conquerors sword, the Babylonian tree fell to as foretold.

The next world power had arrived on the scene, the Persians! From now on the descending chain of world powers would take a much more beast like aggressive attitude, the prophecy had said that the heart of man would be taken away and replaced by the heart of a beast (Daniel 4:16) just as the metals in the statue dream diminished in value.

    SEVEN TIMES?

Establishing the date for the chopping down of the tree as 538 BC, we can set the starting date for the seven times. But how long is seven times, and when do they finish? Are they one and the same as the Gentile times referred to by Jesus at Luke 21:24 "Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations (Gentiles) until the times of the nations (Gentiles) are completed (fulfilled)".

Seven in the scriptures is a number that signifies 'completeness', or 'bringing a period or work to a completion'. In historical sections of the scriptures, seven frequently occurs to denote 'completeness' or 'finishing a work completely' Jos 6: 2-4, 15, 1Ki 18:42-44, 2Ki 5:10, 12 Ps 12:6, Pr 24:16, Ps 119:164.

TIMES is translated in the scriptures ten times from the Aramaic word "iddan" as 'an appointed time period' or 'set season'.

The phrase Seven Times carries the scriptural meaning: 'an appointed time period set for completely finishing some activity'.

If the seven times start to count when the tree is chopped down in 538 BC, (when the gold of the head changed to the silver of the chest in the statue vision) then 'an appointed time period set for completely finishing the activity' would follow ending with the presenting of the Kingdom of God's rulership to the one whom God approves, scriptures identify this one as Jesus Christ.

WTS is absolutely right on 607 because Jehovah and Jesus trust them - and we know all this because watchtower says so :)

The whole educated world is wrong including State of Israel with the most powerful spy agensy but not uneducated gb who were only wrong about how many dates? umm 606,1799,1874, 1878, 1914,1925,1975 and few more miner dates. That's right we should trust few old farts who have a direct channel of communication with God and that's because they say so as they're the most brilliant bible interpreters on the planet.

I guess those that don't want to see past the cult mentailty will never do.

    Hi TTE,

Of course, someone has made a mistake and is 20 years out with their history dates.

To be honest, although this is likely symptomatic of the WT falsehood, to me it is not a great issue.

Now the greatest issue is to do with Jesus. The bible says He is the Mediator for all. The WT says He is not and they are the mediator for JWs. Mind you they say He is "a god" not God, created, not the Creator etc. etc.

JWs will stand before the Father without a mediator, without the justification of the blood of Jesus, without any hope :(

Now that is a serious problem IMHO.

    All the best,

    Stephen

There is no other fact as important as what jwfacts mentioned. Their own literature refutes the literal "seventy years" dogma.

Of course, if the people you know have huge a huge emotional investment in 1914 sparking the "last days", bogus proof is their best friend.

I have found that printing out loads of information never works. It all has to do with attitude. Either they are ready to open up and consider the possibilities, or they are not. If you come on to strong, many JWs will react by pushing you farther away. Be careful.

Stephen- I feel the same way, especially the whole Jesus being resurrected as a spirit, can you direct me to a thread where you guys may have already discussed that??

drew sagan- I see where you coming from, I dont have to worry about that with my parents or my wife, I'm not trying to share this information with anyone else, but if I can help them see what I see then I may try to help a few others I care about in a very cautious way, but for now just the main 3 people I care about the most.

    Okay Shamus, I'm here.

    TryingToExit,

Really, the first two sentences say it all...

A postates and other opposers argue that Jerusalem was not destroyed in 607 BCE, but in 587 BCE, and provide what they claim is archaeological evidence to support this.

That is simply false. Every historian supports 586/7 BC as the destruction of Jerusalem. To call them "apostates" or "opposers" is name-calling. They don't need to "argue" or make "claims", they just simply don't give a rat's ass what JWs believe. They look for accurate history as proven by archaeology, ancient records, and even the Bible. These all point 20 years later than what Watchtower Corporation wishes to believe to support their layers of other false teachings.

If 607 BCE is wrong, then the “seven times” prophecy ending in 1914 CE would be wrong also.

Exactly. 607 BC is wrong and 1914 AD is wrong also. Why would anyone have a problem with 1914 being a meaningless false prophecy by Jehovah's Witnesses? Their interpretations of "this generation" have been consistently wrong since 1914. So, how can you expect them to be right about 1914 or 607?

Okay, I'll skip down to the start of first sentence of the next one...

Most secular historians point to 587/586-B.C.E. as the date for the desolation of Jerusalem...

This is false as well, because ALL secular historians point to 587/6. Okay, there are a few exceptions that Shamus would like me to mention, I think. Here is a comprehensive list of all "non-JW scholars", as provided by 'scholar JW' who agree with JW chronology pointing to 607BCE:

    Jerry Leslie - http://www.biblestudents.net/library/datingthedeolation.pdf

    Julian T Gray - http://www.hunkler.com/pyramids/pyramid_books_review.html#book4

    Paul S Johnson - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_S._L._Johnson & *** jv chap. 28 pp. 627-628 Testing and Sifting From Within ***

    Morton Edgar - http://www.heraldmag.org/olb/contents/treatises/edgar%20parsons%20letters.htm

    Charles f Redeker - http://www.heraldmag.org/olb/Contents/doctrine/70yrs.htm

Rather than being actual scholars, they were Russellites... and...

    Smyth pyramid crap

    ...pyramidologists http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramidology#History

After all, who really needs the Bible when you have "The Corroborative Testimony of God's Stone Witness and Prophet The Great Pyramid in Egypt"! -- see Studies in the Scriptures Vol. 3 Thy Kingdom Come. beginning p. 309.

After reading parts of Russell's original Studies in the Scriptures volumes, it became quite clear to me that the entire collection of "biblical" and "pyramidological" 607-1914 stuff was built on nonsense. What Watchtower Corporation is still trying to feed to the sheeples is as worthless as their shifting interpretation of "this generation".

Sadly, it is impossible to convince a 607 believer otherwise until they are ready to accept the real truth. They are much like those who still argue that the earth is flat. They simply spout the same thing over and over hoping that constant repetition will somehow make it true.

Of course, the book of Daniel is not what it claims to be either. It's pure mythology that Watchtower uses to "prove" their 1914 mythology.

  • OnTheWayOut

Your father will believe what WTS tells him that Ray Franz and Carl O. Jonsson say rather than actually see what they say. Your continued discussion on that is, in my humble opinion, fruitless.

Read THE GENTILE TIMES RECONSIDERED for yourself. It's loaded with better understanding than we can provide.

Unsurprisingly, they do not mention that the 587 BCE date is a chronological disaster — biblically speaking. It makes several prophecies fail, breaks up chronological narratives, makes some passages absurd, and makes part of the scriptures contradict other parts. It truly is an absolute mess and a disgraceful misuse of the Bible.

That's ridiculous circular logic. Let me fill in the parts your father left out, but has in mind: WTS says 607 BCE is right. WTS says Bible prophecy points clearly to 1914 CE through a series of complicated scriptural gymnastics which include "a day for a year" and taking 360-day years into the formula when applying them to regular 365.25-day years. WTS says that the Bible absolutely means that a 70-year period can only be applied to their interpretation of the events. World War broke out in the year 1914. C.T. Russell expected the end of the last days in 1914. Despite the end not occurring, C.T. Russell must have been right about something dealing with 1914 because God chose the WTS in 1919 to be His messengers. God's chosen messengers receive new light from God. WTS says 607 BCE is right.

587 is only a chronolgoical disaster for WTS doctrine.

You might try this: C.T. Russell arrived at 1914 CE based on pyramidology and the thought that Jesus' invisible return took place in 1874 (something he died believing) and that 1914 was 40 years, one generation, after 1874. He was wrong about everything.
