    Have you ever been experienced?
Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful. - Hendrix

What are your thoughts on psychedelic drugs? Have you ever tried any and if so, what did you take away from the experience?

They are useful tools if used wisely. I'm mainly a Ayahuasca drinker. Although a powerful psychedelic, it is refered to as medicine more often a drug. There are lots of sites on the net that give information on use, preparation, and benifits.

Set and setting are most important, I'm not a concert tripper, I prefer darkness, eyes closed, shamonic music, and a place where I will not be disturbed while tripping. This allows one to go deeper into the mind.

I spent a large part of 1969-1971 doing blotter every weekend, then a few times a week, then more often. Then came the Witnesses and talk about "bad trips." In 1981-4 I found some friends in Cal. and resumed the paper. In the late 80's I found some amarita growers and then went on many shroom experiences, a few times peyote in the desert, and so we get into the 21st century. I trip once or twice a year and enjoy it very much, once again - only in a positive frame of mind, always alone, and in the country. My days of tripping in large cities and screaming out Habakkuk and Zephania are over.

    Yes, not stoned... but beautiful.

Once a week I go smoke a few paragraphs of the "Revelation Climax" book with fellow dubbies at the CBS, does that count?

OK, smart a$$ answer first. Now the real one. Hashish in my early twenties is the "hardest" drug I've ever tried. It didn't do much for me. Of course, I regularly partake of two JW staple items: booze & caffeine. As I get older, I've gotten more moderate in my consumption out of a sense of self-preservation.

BTW, Dr. Andrew Weil wrote an excellent book about all kinds of drugs, legal & illegal, in 1983.

From Chocolate to Morphine. with Winifred Rosen (1983) (2004 rev.)

I read the 1983 version. It's very matter-of-fact in its presentation. Towards the end he makes a pitch for trying to attain drug-like experiences without the chemicals if you can. It's a great book to just skim through too if you don't feel like reading the whole thing.

Interesting tidbit: Heroin, if you have access to a safe, pharmaceutical-grade lifetime supply, isn't that bad for you physically.

The book by Dr. Weil, 'The marriage of the moon and sun' was a wonderful read. Thanks for triggering my memory.

Cool, you guys ARE experienced! I got my hands on some LSD and psilocybin mushrooms and I'm really stoked to give them a go. I tried LSD once before in my teens and it was *such* a great experience that I want to do it again.

Frankiespeakin: I've never heard of any experiences with Ayahuasca from anyone I've ever met. How would you describe the difference in effects to say, mushrooms or LSD?

Laurence: Sounds like you really know how to live it up. I'm thinking I'll probably become one of those regular trippers myself.

Ha ha ha, was that a pitch? I doubt I'll be doing any addictive drugs any time soon.

I did my share of drugs before I was a JW. I have no interest in getting involved with that shit again.
