This place has helped me to "face" my parents. Actually, get off of the "oh they hurt me sooo much" and go see them, again.

They are 87. My dad has been diabetic for 40 years and has lost the lower portion of both legs. He has artificial legs, but he doesn't do well with them anymore. My mom is his sole caregiver. He also has alzheimers, but usually remembers me. He isn't the same person he was. He's become sweet and child-like silly. When he was himself he could be a real butthead at times. And was really sharp. I learned a lot from him growing up.

I'm glad I'm able to be there now. I was over yesterday and found out from my mom that his kidneys are going rapidly. He has to start dialysis right away. Three days a week. And for her to get him out of the house is at the least difficult. She's really really worried, about getting him to the clinic, about loosing him!

I've decided to go over at least weekly and visit and help out where I can.

This is tough, even though I've expected it for years.

    Hey sweetie,

The few times I've met your dad he was a firecracker, very smart and interesting. I'm really sorry that you're going through this. I don't know what else to say, just here's a hug and lots of love.

The only real "bitch" of it is going through all this time with the religion in the way. I Damn WTBTS and their dogman. But that's water now under the bridge. At least I have now.

Kitties, thank you. I really appreciate that you knew him when he was himself.

Sorry to hear about your father (((((Brenda))))).

Jack's (my step-father) mother is about 85 and she has severe dementia. Sometimes she looks right at him and tells him she's looking for her son. Very sad. Her hips are going as of late and is about to be bed ridden. He has taken care of my mom for three decades and his mother as well for about 5 years. He's an angel.

Interesting... this is not the first time I have heard of alzheimers *improving* the personality of a JW parent.

Nina (Cruzinheart) also had a very similar experience.

That`s wonderful that he still remembers you, it`s a beautiful thing that you have time to see them both right now. I`m sure your Mom will appreciate the help. Treasure these moments. I wish you the best.
