We had a phone call yesterday, after being "inactive" for 6 years. Not having attended a meeting in 4 years, we get a call saying they are concerned that they had heard we believe in evolution. My partner said "Not necesarily believe in it, Im just not discounting it at this time."

Brother Michael then asked " Do you believe that god created Adam and Eve then?"

Partner said "I have no opinion on it."

Brother Michael said "We would like to come around and discuss it with you."

    (Not bloody likely!!!!)

Partner said " No thanks, I know where I stand with you guys and I am happy with my position at the moment."

brother Michael did not know what to say, call ended abruptly.

I wonder what this will lead to, will they take it further or drop it?

Well, they are practically strangers now. It's not their business what goes on inside your mind, anymore.

lmao... I guess they will want to "keep the congregation clean" by DFing you.

I can see the audience's response already: Brother Jellybelly who???

    Let me get this right:

    • you haven't been a member for 6 years
    • you haven't attended a meeting in 4 years

Yet they feel that their membership committee should try to disqualify you after all this time???????/

With any other organisation that'd be called harrassment!

or make it look like they have been busy trying to "keep the congregation clean"?

Why aren't they more concerned about the preaching work? or sheparding? those who need it in the congregation. But Noooooooo, they have to put their noises in people's business. What a bunch of busy-bodies, do-nothing, mind-controlled men.

ps, welcome to the board, jellybelly.

The elders came to see me to ask about what someone had told them out in fieldservice. They had been told that I had joined a church. I told them I had been attending a church to see what they taught out of curiosity and didn't intend to join. They just said to write a DA letter if I decided to join one. They haven't said anything about it since. I kind of enjoyed attending and helped build the church building but it went out of business and they sold the church building. There were several little groups that didn't agree on how to run the church so they just split up. It helped me see first hand what religion was like outside the JW bubble. I think there is good and bad in them all.

What an wonderful response! One more to include in my repertoire.

That's the type of vague, generic, jaw-dropping, call-ending response that we all need to learn. Thank you and welcome to the forum.

    Thanks for the welcome

Well its happened, "Brother Michael" called again a couple of days ago and said he had spoken to the other elders and that they had decided to disassociate my partner. (I had no idea they could do this). My partner asked what that meant and Mike said it meant to the congregation that my partner had chosen to leave. They had made this decion based on his beliefs on evolution.

My partner said bugger my beliefs on evolution, you should be disfellowshipping me because I believe you are a cult which uses brain washing and fear to control its members, that he wanted to be known as an apostate from now on and that he would be actively opposing them. He then blew it and called Mike a few choice names and hung up. Im sure "Brother Michael" thought the deeminz had gotten angry at being busted.

We had already spoken about what we would do if they rang again and this was pretty much what he had wanted to do.

The weird thing is that it was his mum that "dobbed" him in for his evolution ideas, now he is dead to her, stupid woman, I have no idea what she expected to achieve from this.

So its being announced tomorrow evening.

So now I am deciding what I am going to do.
