You will never grow old

I was looking at the Quotes web site and came across a jewel:

    *** Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15 ***

If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling... True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that soon will pass away? or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order?

Exactly the kind of drivel that led my parents to beleive that their children would never hit elementary school... revised to never going to middle school...revised to unlikely to reach high school... revised to whoops! All of their children realized what a load of crap it all was and are now living happily free of the whole mess while the parents approach their 30th year of toiling endlessly and enduring lots of stress induced health problems stemming from vehement denial that they have wasted all of that time for absolutely nothing.

corrupt system is due to end in a few years

They must mean the Watchtower corrupt system is due to end in a few years.

How many lives did they screw up with their damn false predictions.

That was written in 1969, so I guess that they were slowly preparing the 1975 hoax.

Powerful words for sure. One of my most vivid and early memories is still how many times my mother would say in a half lamenting, half joking way how she never expected to get old enough to get married, once married, old enough to have children, then to see her children in school, then in high school, then married. Now she's a grandmother, broke, and still shilling books and mags for a heartless corp. Convenced she won't get old enough to die in this system. A sad reflection on life now.

I'm glad she told me the above, and though in her own way she was trying to be 'encouraging' in her example of faith, all it did is tell me what a bunch of bunk it all was.

You know, if you were only 5 YO when that was written, you wouldn't be 'old' yet, otherwise, the WT might have missed the mark a bit.

This has to be one of the most revealing quotes from the society. They repeatedly emphasized the nearness of the end in a publication that is now a decade older than the current college graduating class.

What a classic example of stupidity. How can anyone believe anything they say? How can they themselves keep a straight face?
