The fleabites received for my speaking the absolute truth, almost entirely free from speculation, in:
the thread found by clicking here would be hilarious if the matter at hand was not so serious. I guess the biters generally display the poor reading and reasoning powers, and the huge desire to hero-worship ("My Jehovah can beat up your jesus") that got so many embroiled in the Cult of Lies in the first place...
Of course Bill is often pushy and has a bandwagon to induce people to jump on to.
Of course Bill is now a showman.
Of course Bill now is melodramatic.
He needs to be.
He has to be.
He MUST be.
He has activated the press and international media like no one else before him.
Without being a melodramatic, aggressive showman, he would not have got their attention.
Yep. The name "Silentlambs" helped.
Bill has damaged the Watchtower more than Franz ever did. Whatever either of their intentions may have been.
Explains some things? Perhaps, perhaps not.
And this is despite the fact that Ray Franz, quite evidently, is more articulate and "studied" than Bill. And probably more intelligent (which is not in any way to suggest that Bill is unintelligent)
But the key is: Is Bill basically speaking the truth?
That is the question.
I hold that Bill is.
On the evidence.
And on this very, very major issue, Bill is more correct than is Ray.
The the Chattering Class here do not like this.
And I see no evidence of exaggeration by Bill either - despite all the temptation.
Bill's conduct can be and is abrasive at times. Perhaps that is intentional. Or not.
Whichever it is, I am far more tolerant of abrasiveness and of frustration with those still in denial despite clear evidence than of cult apologia or continued denial.
Someone of Ray's intelligence should have seen that the anti-outsiders, closed-door nature of the cult - let alone the two-witnesses rule - was pedophile-encouraging from a mile off. And where pedophilia is unlikely (or less likely) to be met with police action, there will flock Pedophiles, like flies are drawn to honey. As I said explicitly, in this very forum, before the whole pedophile database news was released...
Ray may well be a kinder man than Bill (I think Ray is). Ray surely is a "wiser" and more learned man than Bill.
But on this issue, I side with Bill.

Sure, we all know now that the WTS is a great haven for pedophiles. But go back just 5 years and who was saying it? Not Bill, not Focus.
Go back 10 years ... was it on the radar?
Go back 20 or 30 years and it was not so well known in society in general.
Yes, hindsight is wonderful but while it's easy to say "Ray should have known" please remember that this means you should have known too.

Simon they knew thirty years ago or more, they just didn't want to acknowledge it.
They couldn't believe that such things were happening. But they knew. Bethel knew.
My uncle was an elder in Ontario and in the late 60's he was carrying on incest relations with his daughter. It took quite a while, but he was found out and he was caught and Bethel knew, He was disfellowshipped and went to prision and that congregation was disbanded. These things go through Bethel.. And what about Percy Chapman and his Bethel Boys. I find it very difficult to believe that Ray and the other members of the GB. were in the dark as to these violations. They had to know. How could they not know? Were they wearing blinders? How many people wrote to the Society about abuse cases and they say they never knew. I don't believe it for one minute. They had to know. In the inner saction of the Bethel they knew, they just chose to ignore it and hope that it would go away.

Suggest we drop this Bill vs Ray thing like the bad habit it is. Knowing how the responsibiliites are divided at Bethel, I can fully understand how Ray, given his involvement with the Writing Department, which has the reputatation of being mostly liberal and progressive, and concurrent non-involvement with the ``heavies"" in the hard-assed Service Department, who are not exactly the most forthcoming bunch, would not be privy to first-hand knowledge of the myriad of files, cases, dossiers, etc. kept by Harley Miller, Jaracz et al, and at best likely had only a superficial idea of their extent.

So we must now ask, who HID it from our SIGHT? And from Bill's sight?
Do the Chattering Class think the 20,000+ reported cases of suspected pedophilia in the WTS just materialized overnight?
The cases stretch back for decades. On local files always copied to Bethel.
Which brings us to well within the era of Ray's (junior) position on the Governing Body of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Which is not to say that he was informed of the magnitude of the problem.
But could Ray's reluctance to accept the magnitude of incidence of pedophilia (his basic position is that the frequency of occurrence is no greater than for other "religions", though he implicitly concedes that the likelihood of it remaining secret is higher within the Watchtower Cult) have anything to do with the fact that it was his pen that reiterated and enshrined the instructions for the need for two witnesses in "judicial" proceedings?

For the Reading Comprehension Practise Class, I state that I am neither suggesting nor believing that, back then, Ray gave the child abuse matter more than a passing thought. I am not judging him for or on this omission.
I am suggesting, though, THAT RAY FRANZ'S PRESENT POSITION ON WHAT I KNOW IS THE INSTITUTIONALIZED PEDOPHILIA WITHIN THE WATCHTOWER HAS GOT AT LEAST A LITTLE TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT HIS CO-AUTHORSHIP OF THE "two witnesses" REQUIREMENT (sure, scriptural basis provided - but the Watchtower would say that, now, wouldn't she?) IS AN OBVIOUS AND CONNECTED SOURCE OF EMBARRASSMENT - at least to his fans.
Should I post what Ray Franz himself published in support of the need for two witnesses?
By including the U.N. matter in the latest edition of CoC, but omitting the Child Abuse matter whose exposure predated the U.N. fiasco, Ray's silence is being construed so as to discredit Bill's work. Not Ray's fault, sure.
A word to Ray directly
Come on, Ray. Do the decent thing here. Get thee to the right side of this issue. You are on the right side of most of the big issues. The figures already show that pedophilia is a bigger problem among Watchtowerites than it is among other cults/religions - see ONE IN TEN mJW a PEDO? Approximate for sure, but also unrefuted so far.
