The end of 6000 years is 1873. WT 7/15/1894 p.1675

"In what year, then, would the first 6,000 years of man's existence and also the first 6,000 years of God's rest day come to an end? The year 1975." AFAKE 10/8/1966,p.19

C.Sunutko-Watchtower Circuit Overseer Spring 1967, Sheboygan, WI Assembly of Jehovah's Witnesses. Title of talk, SERVING WITH EVERLASTING LIFE IN VIEW. Much was said about the end of this system culminating in 1975.

Do not pursue higher education. There is very little time left! Make pioneer service, the full-time ministry with the possibility of Bethel or missionary service, your goal. WT 3/15/1969

Since there is such a short time left, study no longer than six months with a prospective convert. WT 5/15/1969

"Reports are heard of brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end." KINGDOM MINISTRY 5/1974, P.3

A great crowd of people are confident that great destruction is imminent, which has been a major factor in their decision not to have children. AFAKE 11/8/1974, p.11

The outcome of listening to the Watchtower Society, no education, no home, no kids, no life!

    Scorpain,

Today, of course, they will tell you that they never said that. Since they have a record of either distorting, misquoting or burying their own history, the ones coming in, after 1980 are none the wiser. Most people never read their own history which brings a certain bliss to ignorance.

It is also interesting to read what they wrote after the event. They blame the rank and file for their misunderstanding which adds guilt to the poverty they have because they followed their leaders. This is exactly the same pattern you will find in their books before and after 1925. I have quotes for the 1925 stuff. In 1923, they stated that 1925 was "settled in the sriptures." In January of 1925, they said it "may or may not" happen. By September of that year they said the idea was injected into the minds of some of the rank and file by Satan. So first they fill the flock full of hope then they filled them full of guilt.

Skorpion, yeah they said all that stuff before 1975 I was there as well. But, I didn't live my life on the basis of what they were saying and neither did most other Witnesses. Some were critical, so what? So I got education, home, kids, life, etc. There has to be a certain amount of personal responsibility in this stuff rather than trying to lay the blame off on the Organization. Yes, they do have a certain responsibility but in the end we live our lives as we see fit it's too easy to go slopey shouldered.

Interesting Xandit. Now, would you be willing to say such a thing in front of your congregation? I appeal to your reasoning: "live our lives as WE see fit." Tell me something, do you have a habit of taking things from "Jehovah's spirit directed organization" with a grain of salt? You sound like a member of an Xtian church. Just an observation...

ianao it's simple truth that we all live our lives as we see fit. Others may influence us but unless they've got a gun to our heads then that's the way it is. Some may be more weak willed than others but even if we give up our decision making capabilities to others that is something we choose to do.

Most Witnesses take things from the Society with a grain of salt, they just don't like to admit it.

It wouldn't bother me a bit to say something like "live our lives as WE see fit." I've done it before.

    Xandit,

I'm curious. Do you discuss your point of view with your bothers and sisters? I should think that your ideas would be considered apostate, by most, not just a few as you imply.

Point well taken Xandit. But, what about the children who are never given a chance to decide? Did they choose to let the society govern their lives? No, it was a decision made by the people responsible for directing their lives.

Oh, and larc has a point. Not being able to live my life the way *I* wanted to was a friend of mine's reasoning for recommending I become a JW (he did not want to see me destroyed). I thought YOU as a JW lived your life by BIBLICAL standards. Is this no longer true?

You are a very interesting JW.

I don't remember who wrote this so I appolagize for that, but a while back on H2O they were discussing this. One brother said that he was a young kid at the time, but was always confused about the 6000 year thing. WHY? Because Jesus said only Jehovah knew when it would happen, yet Jesus, the angles, Satan and the Demons would all have known when Eve was created!!!!!

Amazing, I had never thought of that till I read it. It's so ture, how on earth could that be the year, and Jehovah be the only one to know. It just goes to show that sometimes kids are smarter then the GB and those who think they have all the answers.

So always listen to your heart, and conscience. It's there for a reason, don't let others get you down.

    Xandit,

I know of many who lived as if the Watchtower was telling them the truth about 1975. One elder in the congregation I was in at that time sold his ranch and a home as well as two other people selling their homes before 1975. Many I know did not pursue higher education because of the WTs jumping the gun with their own sloppy opinions about 1975, thinking the end was just around the corner.

Maybe you were one of those that just did not take the WT seriuosly about the 1975 fiasco. GOOD FOR YOU! Hopefully you as well as many today that are JWs will see through the organization for what it is, a fable oriented abomination of half truths, lies and mind-control.

Those who suffered as a result of the build up to 1975 will tell you it was no joke. I too left school to pioneer at 15 and at 17 found myself in a bed-sit waiting for the end to come. It took some years to extract myself from under the spell of these false prophets the WT.

If a company had made such promise to it employees in return for free labour they would sue. Come to think of it why don't the Bethel Boppers sue.

It is now a new century time to move on
