It's been a while since the society has been specific about what kind of music to avoid hasn't it?

The last I remember was when the said to stay away from rap and heavy metal. That was a while ago.

Have they made any specific bans recently? What kind of music could they forbid now anyways? It would be hard because music is so fragmented now into subgenres.

There was a big witch hunt in the early 90's again. I got a visit from my home overseer about some Alice In Chains and similar early 90's Seattle "grunge" stuff that was considered heavy metal.

I hid a bunch of CDs in my desk at work and also mailed some back home to a friend that kept them for me til I left Bethel.

Hmmm. . .some latest ones if I remember correctly, they did mention Beastie Boys by name because the "mimicked masturbation" on stage. Well, that means pretty much any band in the rock, pop, and country genres. I have been to concerts as diverse as Garth Brooks, Van Halen, and Metallica and have seen the same thing. Whatever.

Having been out for a while I haven't heard of any one genre or artist being banned.

I remember when they would mention one or two artist by name...all the good lil dubbies would rush home and destroy that artist's recordings but not other artists who were as bad or worse than the ones mentioned. Then all the dubbies felt good about themselves for being faithful in little things.

The last time I heard an artist mentioned by name was at a District Convention several years ago. The speaker was blasting debasing music and to try to sound like he was in the know on modern music he decided to mention one particular rap artist by name...except he got the name wrong and everyone under the age of 35 knew it and laughed outloud. Instead of Snoop Doggy Dogg (as he was called then) the speaker called him Snoopy Dog Dog. People laughed so hard that no one took anything the speaker said seriously after that. The sad thing was the speaker seemed proud of himself because he thought people were laughing at the name of the artist and not at his butchering the name.

I remember one Assembley speaker saying negative things about the Macarena Song... he said if you knew what they were saying in Spanish you'd be shocked. My Mexican buddies told me he was full of sh*t. I don't know I don't speak very good Spanish...

They just love sensationalism and drama... you'd think they'd appreciate good "showmanship", I know that's what they rely on.

Who cares anymore since they ban so many things.

Maybe I'll send a complimentary cd to Crooklyn Bethel with a mix such as:

Nelly, Third Day, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Toby Mac with DC Talk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Walsh, Aerosmith, Jethro Tull, etc. with a few subliminal 'get out before it's too late' verses thrown in for good measure.

Make sure you add Marilyn Manson and Ludacris too

I remember at one convention they had some Young Ones TM on the platform. One said that he'd stopped listening to drum and bass because some people like to smoke weed while listening to it.

    Like, right.
