The US Government actually deserves credit for the WT heading it's way down....
by EndofMysteries inthe government wanted the wt shut down as well.
they found out that the wt teaches all it's members not to get an education, not to get any good paying job, to spend all their time placeing magazines and being window washers.
so they said, we'll make the cost of insurance, infact require insurance by law, increase the cost of living on everything, then the wt members won't have any spare money to donate and the wt will just fade away due to lack of money.. so the wt after the economy and all cost of living going through the roof the past few years, plus some lawsuits, is suddenly cash starved.

Are we alone?
by Xanthippe inthe title of this thread is the title of a chapter in the book by richard dawkins that i'm really enjoying in spite of or perhaps because of it having been written for young people.
i thought i would share a couple of paragraphs on his theories of the kind of bodies aliens on other planets might have :-.
'let's exercise our imaginations a bit more.

Link to Golden Age 1925 prediction- primary evidence of JW cock-up on Archive.org
by Julia Orwell intrying to convince a jw that the wt predicted 1925 is hard because they won't look at anything from 'apostate' sites.
but the american archive organisation is a disinterested organisation who publishes anything ever printed in america online for research and scholarship purposes.
they are not apostates because they publish all religious, political, judicial, legislative etc online for the public to research.

Bad argument
by goddidit inin my quest to help jws wake up i came up with this (at least i think i came up with it myself, can't be sure).. i was hoping someone could help me refine it to be as easy as possible to understand and as hard as possible to weasel out of by some semantics.. just to be clear, i'm an atheist.
this is written for the context of jw beliefs.. .
premise 1: even if a position is true, it is possible for an argument in favour of it to be a bad argument, e.g.

Literature of false teachers
by goddidit ini'm going to ask a jw if they are discouraged from reading books outside of their watchtower publications.
when he says "no" i want to counter the claim by showing the numerous examples i've seen in their literature of exactly that.
trouble is i don't know where they are.

Undeniable
by goddidit ini've got an audience with a believing jw.
yes, i know he's not really listening.

Quotemines please
by goddidit inas we all know, reaching a believing jw is difficult, maybe impossible.. i've tried many years of reasoning before i realised that reason isn't something they really understand, and science is something they can brush off with a wave of their hand.
now i'm going to prepare very succinct examples of their blatant quotemining and somehow get one of them to read it, then ask them why purveyors of the truth need to use lies to support their claims.
maybe i'm too optimistic but i'm hopeful this might have some effect.

NWT copyright
by goddidit ini notice the jw bible is copyrighted.
are any other "holy" books copyrighted?.
i guess that means publishing it online along with a critique would violate the copyright?.

Website
by goddidit ini'm thinking of building a website to allow anyone to add tags and notes to multiple bibles.. for instance, a subscriber could tag all the verses that mention x so they are easy to hand when trying to argue through creationist lies about x (e.g slavery).. the tags, and other annotations could be public so others could use them.
eventually, each version would be highly annotated.
tags/notes could be shared between different versions of the bible.. i'd be very interested to hear your ideas of what else might be helpful.
