JWs in denial, so sad
by Simon ini had a couple of jw sisters call at my door today.. they started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what i thought of that.. i said it sounded like a mix of disney and dumb.. they then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?.
i said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.. they thought man created death by disobeying so i questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them.
apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.. i asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in tsunami's, disease and so on.. at this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).. when i suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if i studied the bible and theology.. then i told them i was brought up as a jw so knew it was all crap.. now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why i'd left (and i think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).. not much time to say much before they cut and run so i told them i'd left because i found out it was all based on lies and that the watchtower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.. oh no, you're thinking of the catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").. "well, i challenge you to do a search for the australian royal commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police.".

Jehovah Witness vs Jehovah's Witness
by Simon inbeing brought up as a jehovah's witness means you are so used to the term that you rarely stop to think about it.. one thing i've noticed is that people unfamiliar with the religion will say "jehovah witness" (no 's) instead which i always found a bit grating.. but watching the us election, something struck me.
people are often referred to as "trump supporters", not "trump's supporters" and so on.
thinking about other things, people would say they were "united fan's", not "united's fans" and so on.. it seems weird that a group would refer to themselves as though it was someone else talking about them (in the 3rd person, if i have that right).. what do you think?

I have heard people refer to them as "jehovahs" , "that guy is a big jehovah", "a bunch of jehovahs came in", "a jehovah was at my door" and "jehovah witnesses". People find it quite odd when they describe themselves as "one of .....". I never correct them, it gives me a little chuckle. They have been thumping on doors for what? 125+ years now and nobody knows what they teach or what to call them.
People do not get that a jw truly sees themselves as a witness of their God. To most people they see it as just a name for another denomination as previously mentioned, Catholic, Lutheran, etc...
Years ago my jw would get quite annoyed that I referred to them as "jw's" and not the full "jehovah's witnesses". And now you have jw's going in front of the President of the US wearing a (billboard size) lapel pin that says jw dot org while accepting honor and a medal for her non jw son who probably never got a birthday card from his mom because it would give him too much honor for his birthday.

She is participating in 'honoring' her grandson? with a medal no less?! I wonder if she ever 'honored' him with a birthday card or cake? Not to sound flippant, just wondering how receiving one of the highest honors there is goes over in dubland? the elders are ok with this as long as she wears advertising? -

Why it's a waste of time talking to JW's
by Phizzy ini believe it to be a waste of time talking to, reasoning with, jw's if you expect any kind of quick result.. many of us when we first wake up think that 'coz ttatt is blindingly obvious to us, it will soon get through to our jw loved ones.. this simply isn't so for a couple of important reasons.
the first is that, if someone believes something is true, or the truth, to them it really is, without doubt, true.
so whatever you say must be wrong somehow.. the second problem is that jw's simply do not have to use, or pay any attention to facts and logic.

"I have noticed most of them do not pay attention to what you actually say anyway."- ain't that the truth! -

Shouldn't there be a new question? 'Young People Ask- Can I dress and act like Prince and remain in good standing?' -

There are two cart witnesses outside of my office window - Faneuil Hall in Boston - should I approach them?
by Billzfan23 ini asked a couple of them farther up the street by north station if they had ever seen beth sarim - and that they should look it up...for some interesting facts about their history.. .

Why shouldn't they be confronted (politely) about their teachings? They are in a public space promoting harmful material. THEY are the ones who want to discuss these things they just don't like it being pointed out that they are false and run away. The more the public sees the real jw's the better in my opinion.
Why not inform them about ARC, lawsuits, etc.... they sure as heck will not hear it from inside the kh.
In my fantasy land, if a jw came to my door they would be required to listen to or watch MY views about their org until I decided it was enough. If you knock on my door and expect me to listen to your spiel the least you can do is return the favor and listen to my view. But they don't, they ask you to do what they are not willing to do themselves, examine their own beliefs.

by LisaRose ini found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.
it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.

"How JWs differ from other Christians:" now on Google News
by Sugar Shane inplease post some comments on this news-site!
it's not a bad piece of journalism, but there are definitely some gaps that need to be filled.
the pro-jw apologists have already started posting on it!

I forgot to add that the article completely left out the shunning, jc's, blood, pedophilia, no voting, no YMCA, etc....
Last Sunday's wt about shunning would be perfect to educate the public about the reality of jw's.

They believe Jesus Christ is the key to salvation? really? since when?
I remember some quotes from the wt's that state being a jw is the key to having any hope (no guarantee) of salvation.
I have heard of comment made by jw's that snear at the mere thought of Jesus. They might give lip service and say He is their 'king' but in the end they really don't give Him much thought. More reverence is given to the gb and the org at large.

Make sure your signs have permits.............East Gippsland Shire Council. Vic. Aust.
by smiddy inthis is a notice from the shire in which i live .. "signs placed on naturestrips ,roadsides ,and other public land require a permit from the shire which has identified locations in each town where signs can be erected once a permit is granted .. their is a photo of heaps of signs that have been impounded that don`t have a permit.. and i would imagine their is a cost involved in this.. would that be a valid reason , the cost , that i don`t ever see a witnessing cart/trolley in my shire ?.
smiddy.

Sorry, when you say Shire all I can think of is Hobbits and such. You live in the Shire, how charming, why muck it up with signs?
