I would prefer, in the spirit of my post above, to say JW's are " Held in ignorance", rather than that they choose ignorance, as a general rule.
As Blondie points out, many people do actually choose ignorance, and people like that must be amongst the JW's, but I would hope that the majority of JW's are simply "held" rather than "choosing", that way there is at least hope for them.
