    LDH,

But of course those who write the materials at headquarters can read ANYTHING THEY WANT. (That's their job, you know!) And then they can pick and choose little slices of information here and there, digest it, and present it back to us as quotes in the Awake! magazine or whatever.

So, if you'd just stick to reading those magazines, you'd eventually get enough "secular" material in there to be satisfied, right?? [8>]

Gopher, who prefers to digest his own food (thank you very much)

Now that I'm on the outside looking in,I have a new perspective n what I believe goes on inside the organization. I would have never come up with this idea when I was a sheep.

    1) The organization KNOWS it is misleading people
    2) Their sole purpose is to sell the publications - not preach
    3) Because they already have an outlet to place 90% of what they publish, they dont have to be too concerned with content.
    4) As long as they dont make too many waves the r&f wont question it
    5) The occasional twist or flip in doctrine is always obeyed by the r&f, so any mistakes can be swept under the carpet.
    6) All of the above make it possible for the writing department to print WHATEVER THEY WANT. No harm will come to them.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but pertinant anyway.

    Independent Thinking:

    The Watchtower, February 15, 1979, p. 20:

“In a world where people are tossed about by
confusing winds of religious doctrine, Jehovah’s
people need to be stable, full-grown Christians.
(Eph. 4:13, 14) Their position must be steadfast,
not shifting quickly because of independent
thinking or emotional pressures. (Col. 1:23; 2:6, 7)”

    The Watchtower, January 15, 1983, p. 22:

"Avoid Independent Thinking … How is such
independent thinking manifested? A common way
is by questioning the counsel that is provided by
    God's visible organization."

    The Watchtower, January 15, 1983, p. 27:

“ Fight Against Independent Thinking … Yet there
are some who point out that the organization has
had to make adjustments before, and so they argue:
‘This shows that we have to make up our own mind
on what to believe.’ This is independent thinking.
Why is it so dangerous? Such thinking is an
    evidence of pride.”

    Apostates:

    The Watchtower, August 1, 1980, p. 19:

“Thus, the one who doubts to the point of becoming
an apostate sets himself up as a judge. He thinks he
knows better than his fellow Christians, better also
than the ‘faithful and discreet slave,’ through whom
he has learned the best part, if not all that he knows
about Jehovah God and his purposes.”

    The Watchtower, March 15, 1986, p. 12:

“Do you wisely destroy apostate material?”

    The Watchtower, March 15, 1986, p. 14:

“Why is reading apostate publications similar to
    reading pornographic literature?”

    The Watchtower, March 15, 1986, p. 17:

“Beware of those who try to put forward their own
    contrary opinions.”

    Bible Errors:

    The Watchtower, April 15, 1928, p. 126:

“Sometimes a member of a class will refuse to
engage in the canvassing for the books because
there are some mistakes in the books, and says his
conscience will not permit him to put books in
which there are mistakes into the hands of the
people. Of course this is another method that the
enemy adopts to confuse the minds and furnish an
excuse for not being faithful to the Lord. As every
one knows, there are mistakes in the Bible…”

    Thanks TR for the refs,

I'm especially interested in the 1928 quote re 'Bible errors'.
I've been looking for this for some time. Could you post the complete quotation, say the paragraph? Or scan and email. Thanks v much. I'll be using it to help some friends see the arrogance/blasphemy taught in the W/T in Joe Ratherflawed's time as Pres.

    Cheers,

    Ozzie

    Hello,

Concerning the tons of WT litterature i've read in all these years this is the conclusion i come to:

"Prolonged reviewing of the Watchtower Society’s publications involves constantly inventing reactions towards them about which one has no spontaneous feelings whatever"

They have changed their doctrines so often i've lost count!!

    Regards
    Gianluca

    Hi,

Seriously folks, if you read a WT magazine from 1972 and one from 1992 and compare the stuff printed you will find that it is mostly cut and paste. The same mindless drivel recycled for the umphteenth time. They have never had a clue about anything at all and they will never ever get a clue.

    Norm.
