King Arthur: Brother Maynard, bring out the Holy Hand Grenade!

[Holding the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch]

King Arthur: How does it... um... how does it work?

Sir Lancelot: I know not, my liege.

King Arthur: Consult the Book of Armaments.

Brother Maynard: Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one.

Cleric: [reading] And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chu...

Brother Maynard: Skip a bit, Brother...

Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

    Brother Maynard: Amen.

    All: Amen.

King Arthur: Right. One... two... five!

    Galahad: Three, sir.

    King Arthur: Three!

The air of superiority is the core of being a Jehovah's Witness don't you think ? JW's believe they have all the answers. Their whole existence is based on the idea of "us" and "them". JW's have the idea the common rubble of humanity around them simple do not have the "special knowledge" they have. There is no special knowledge in reality, everything knowable can be known. Even those who leave the WT and see behind the curtain and the immense fraud and arrogance of the "organization" often retain, desperately in fact, the need to be "right" to "have all the answers".

That right there is about the only bit of absolute truth I have read in a long time. It's true of ex-jw's that have left the org but remained some form of annoying hippy Christian and it's true of many ex-jw's that have become hard core absolute cold hearted atheists.

This does not include Objectivetruth who deserves a category all of his/her own own. Buddhist practice detachment by the way not attachment.

Paris: What makes you think that Russia is atheist? Lenin promoted state atheism in the Soviet Union. Russia has over 100 million Russian Orthodox Christians. Matter of fact, they tend to be more religious than most Catholic countries that I know in Europe. I have Orthodox friends and they tend much more to Christian customs and traditions than other Christians. Former Soviet Union states (like Ukraine) even have over 90% proclaiming to be active Christians.

Even Vladimir Putin is a strong supporter of the Orthodox church. I don't know if it is his true conviction or just media fake, but he stands publicly at the side of Russian Orthodox church leaders. He is anti-gay and pro-family in his stance. Like him or not, that pretty much makes him more Christian than most European politicians.

As for the discussion at hand:

I agree, still believing ex-JW should be as welcome as Atheist ex-JW. I am an Atheist and still appreciate the effort that some of you put into your posts, defending YOUR faith. I just can't stand posters with a "Governing-Body"-Mania coming here and treating people like retards because they are not reading Ezeqquiel line-by-line and making prophecies that are nothing short of science fiction (at best) and madness (at worst).

    Be in peace.

DontCallMeShirley: Good points. I am in Europe and the countries you mentioned are doing well in terms of peace and excellent living conditions. Once people focus on solving actual, real world problems instead of waiting for fried chickens falling from the sky things tend to become a lot better.

BP2: Paris: What makes you think that Russia is atheist?

Paris didn't think, that's the problem.

He cites China as being an atheist country, not realizing of course (being blinded by his predisposed prejudice against facts) that the Chinese Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. The government itself is officially atheistic but allows its citizens to practice their own religion.

BTW, Paris- you claimed that no atheist Chinese has invented anything in the last 1,000 years. Do you have any proof to back up this preposterous claim?

'Absolute cold hearted atheists?????" WTF? That's about the stupidest thing I've read today, but I'm certain if I stay on someone will top it. And just how do you gauge the ACHA??? BY a few comments on this site? Do you know anything of their lives other than disagreeing, sometimes in a smart-ass manner, with theists?

Atheists are the nicest people I know, which is also supported br the facts. I've been on both sides of the theist fence, and I will pick the atheist side without question.

I am a practising Atheist. After a few more years practise, I may get quite good at it.

What gets me with some posters is that they think Atheists are a group with the same ideas, same emotions, same aproach to life, morals ethics etc, which is total nonsense.

And that kind of poster will proceed to tell me how I feel about all those things, and yet they have never met me, or discussed those things with me.

Atheists are an eclectic group, with just one thing in common, they don't do god.

It is strangely the same with other groups who don't do things, non-Golfers and non-Stamp Collectors, they only have that one thing in common, something they do not do.

By the way, this is why a healthy discussion is so valuable. Reading this thread led me to investigate Chinese inventions and there are some really, really fantastic discoveries (modern day!) made by Chinese scientists and investigators.

I think it would be arrogant to disregard a complete nation of over 1.3 billion humans because of "blah, Chinese? Only copy cats!" (this is what I hear very often from some of my American & German friends). Careful. They have probably more people with high IQ than many Western countries entire population.

They have millions of professing Buddhists, Taoists and followers of Confucius (altough considered more of a philosophy) - only because the government is religion free it is also false to say 1.3 billion people are Atheists!

Dis-Member seems to be one of those people who will do the right thing only because....fear of punishment from some god keeps him from doing what he really wants to do. In his view, an atheist must be wicked because he doesn't believe in god...therefore apparently has no goodness or morals whatsoever. To put things in perspective, I am not aware of any atheist jihads occuring anywhere in the world now, or ever. I'm not aware of any genocides or ethnic cleansings being perpetrated by atheists because they simply have no tolerance for religious people. These things are being done right now as we speak, however...by some very devout, god fearing, "moral" religious people.

STUDIES: ATHEISTS SUPPLY LESS THAN 1% OF PRISON POPULATIONS

It's surprising how many people remark to me, "You're an Atheist? You must have no conscience about committing crime then." Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, if we examine the population of our prisons, we see a very different picture.

...In Joliet Prison, there were 2,888 Catholics, 1,020 Baptists, 617 Methodists and no prisoners identified as non-religious.

Michigan had 82,000 Baptists and 83,000 Jews in the state population; but in the prisons, there were 22 times as many Baptists as Jews, and 18 times as many Methodists as Jews. In Sing-Sing, there were 1,553 inmates, 855 of them (over half) Catholics, 518 Protestants, 117 Jews, and 8 non-religious.

Steiner first surveyed 27 states and found 19,400 Christians, 5,000 with no preference and only 3 Agnostics (one each in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Illinois). A later, more exhaustive survey found 60,605 Christians, 5,000 Jews, 131 Pagans, 4,000 "no preference," and only 3 Agnostics.

In one 19-state survey, Steiner found 15 non-believers, Spiritualists, Theosophists, Deists, Pantheists and 1 Agnostic among nearly 83,000 inmates. He labeled all 15 as "anti-christians." The Elmira, N.Y. reformatory system overshadowed all others, with nearly 31,000 inmates, including 15,694 Catholics (half) and 10,968 Protestants, 4,000 Jews, 325 refusing to answer, and 0 unbelievers.

So, if belief in god and religion makes people morally superior, why are the prisons filled with theists??

    Thanks ADCMS:

Those statistics are but the tip of the icegerg. We keep quoting, sourcing, referencing and they keep ignoring.

I'm leaving it to you, Data-Dog, Cofty, Viviane, Designs and the rest. I've have it with the endless cacophony of ignorance and stupidity spewed by a seemingly never ending conveyor belt of theists. Enough. LisaRose works tirelessly to get me to behave, but I don't think I can hold it in any longer.
