Do Jehovah's Witnesses believe in their own doctrine?

Most JWs don't even know their own doctrine.

Only some of the "old-timers" might be able to attempt to defend their "deeper" doctrines from the Scriptures. The newbies have NO idea, other than (1) No hell; (2) Live forever, paradise earth; (3) Dead loved ones to be resurrected; (4) Obey GB [because THEY KNOW all the answers].

Most here keep better informed on JW doctrine and publications than do any of the R&F Witnesses that I know. Thus you should know that JWs no longer teach any deep doctrinal subjects in their publications. The last "study" publication that got into doctrine was the Live Forever (red) Book. Since then, it's all just like a Mormon commercial, happy family, no problems, God fixes everything in due time, you are especially chosen and will be blessed and live forever. yada yada

Example, they just state that the GT ended in 1914 and CJ began to rule "invisibly". The support is WWI. It's not even in the study pages of the Bible Teach book, it's a 1 or 2 page blurb back in the Appendix.

The new doctrine is: Listen, OBEY, and Be Blessed. (Did I say OBEY?) Most have to ask the Elders about the simplest question that would come up. (Remember, over 50% are in less than 10 years and many cannot read the regular study edition WT which is maybe at an 8th grade level.) If it's too difficult a question, then the Elders put them through an inquisition as to if they're reading apostate material or thinking apostate ideas, because WHERE ELSE would such a dumb@$$ new pub come up with a deep thought provoking question (that the dumb@$$ elder can't answer)? Especially if the question challenges JW doctrine.

All they know to believe is that Armageddo is near; if they go D2D (aka Starbucks) and to the meetings, then they will be whisked away into Panda Paradise and no more problems forever. Shangri La!

How things have changed! Back in the 70s, many JWs really knew their scriptures and could put up a fairly decent debate without referring to JW publicatioins. That's not to say they could justify their doctrines very well, but at least they knew the necessary scriptures to argue their positions. Their scriptures were usually well worn and verses underlined in varying colors. If challenged, they could cite the requisite scripture passages, most of the time without cheat sheets.

Now they're totally different. They're more likely now to just leave you with a publication and move on. Oh, and several gave me copies of their Bible, which was green and had thin pages. I don't think they pass out Bibles anymore, do they?

Oh, and maybe someone can answer this question: When JWs going door to door give you publications and booklets, who pays for them? Does the church pay for them or do the people passing them out pick up the cost?

Would they sell you a Bible?

you are supposed to donate money for publications you pick up at the kingdom hall - you put the money in the "worldwide work" box, not in the box for the local congregation. nobody controls that though. a good JW paid for the books he gives you.
