There a pitiful little hunchback young man of about 25 that was soooooo introverted it was really sad. So he calls my house to speak to my Elder Dad, and I answer the phone.....Unfortunately, at 15, I sounded a lot like my dad, and as soon as I said "hello" he blurts out...."Brother Oompa, I just wanted you to know I have gotten rid of all my pornography, and am going to really try to work in harmony with my prayers to stop masturbating." As and elder I certainly did no like to hear those calls. I would usually refer them to the magazines and say, "Hey it's normal. Anyone who says they have never done it is a liar. I feel bad for that young man.

And YES for some reason people are compelled to tell elders things that they do not need to know nor are they equipped to deal with it. My best JW friend confessed to me on night that her neighbor (a boy our age) had molested her when they were younger. And the first thing she thought she needed to do was call her designated elder (Paul ?) and let him know she had been molested. So what was he gonna do with that? at 1am? I look back now and realized she was a young girl, probably 14 and called him in the middle of the night, no warning. He was probably in his early 30's (god, he seemed OLD back then:)) Why on EARTH did we feel the need to tell elders this stuff?

That is why I wonder at all the JWs in denial about the child abuse things and the JW instinct to go to elders. That is WHAT WE DID. For every fricking thing. Scuse my language. The first instinct is to tell the elders. WHY???? It wasn't a morality issue, it was a criminal issue if even that (he was our age and they were children when it happened, back then CPS wouldn't have been interested). Why????? Why did my mom send me to elders when I was molested? It was a JC, no doubt about it. I passed (whoo hoo). Does it not occur to these people that their reaction is insane?
