Seems like it's ingrained into the JW mentality to blame victims of sexual assult.

She should be ashamed. A poor decision does not excuse a crime.

Kinda like saying someone deserved to be robbed because they left their door unlocked.
Or deserved to be killed because they were in a bad neighborhood after dark.

Did they increase their chances of something bad happening? Quite. But they still didn't *deserve* it.

To be fair, the quote is out of context and I think she has a point - no excuse for what happened but definitely unwise behavior by the girl.

Simon, I know you run this site and everything, but victim blaming is never cool. It's that mentality that prevents women from pressing charges and getting counseling for what happened to them.

I'm not blaming any victim. But its potentially dangerous to promote the notion that putting yourself in bad situations shouldnt be avoided as a bad choice.

Do you think she was asking for it by getting drunk?

I have some developmentally disabled relatives so I'd appreciate you not using the word 'retarded' as a pejorative. Thanks in advance.

Here's some basic info on victim blaming since this is at the core of the news story.

Would you seriously teach your daughter that she could do whater she wanted because if anything happened it wouldn't be her fault? Of course not, even if not her fault it would be unwise to put herself at risk precisely because there may be people who have different faulty morals and twisted judgement.

I dont think its wrong to point to the behavior and label it unwise and dangerous.

I apologise - I took that as an insult that you'd even consider I'd think it ok to blame the victim. Its not what ive been saying and shouldnt be confused.
