Is There (Was There Ever) an Anglo American Dual World Power?

If you live in the U S A or the United Kingdom, this is how the WT Society views your government, your nation :-

Yes, as an ugly, evil terrifying beast ! This is based on the book of Revelation chapter 13 , quoted as follows in the Revelation Climax book

    Rev Book p 194

"But now another wild beast comes onto the world scene. John reports: “And I saw another wild beast ascending out of the earth, and it had two horns like a lamb, but it began speaking as a dragon. And it exercises all the authority of the first wild beast in its sight. And it makes the earth and those who dwell in it worship the first wild beast, whose death-stroke got healed. And it performs great signs, so that it should even make fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the sight of mankind.” (Revelation 13:11-13) This wild beast has two horns, indicating a partnership of two political powers. And it is described as coming out of the earth, not out of the sea. Thus, it comes out of Satan’s already established earthly system of things. It must be a world power, already existing, that takes on a significant role during the Lord’s day.

What can it be? The Anglo-American World Power—the same as the seventh head of the first wild beast but in a special role! Isolating it in the vision as a separate wild beast helps us to see more clearly how it acts independently on the world stage. This figurative two-horned wild beast is made up of two coexisting, independent, but cooperating political powers. Its two horns “like a lamb” suggest that it makes itself out to be mild and inoffensive, with an enlightened form of government to which all the world should turn. But it speaks “as a dragon” in that it uses pressure and threats and even outright violence wherever its version of rulership is not accepted. It has not encouraged submission to God’s Kingdom under the rule of the Lamb of God but, rather, to the interests of Satan, the great dragon. It has promoted nationalistic divisions and hatreds that add up to worshipping the first wild beast."

If, like most of us your miss spent youth included Tuesday evenings squeezed onto somebody's sofa, with study book and Bible, then you will know just how important this application of Scripture is to J W theology. The Anglo American dual World Power is the here and now of Bible prophecy, as they see it, Presiding over the world until God destroys it at Armageddon.

I would like to ask though....When did you ever hear politicians or serious writers refer to these two nations as one world power? Never, in my experience !

What we do have is a "Special Relationship", granted - but that does not make them into one world power . Note what Wiki has to say :

"The Special Relationship is a phrase used to describe the close political, diplomatic, cultural and historical relations between the United States and the United Kingdom , following its use in a 1946 speech by British statesmanWinston Churchill. While both the United Kingdom and the United States maintain close relationships with many others, the level of cooperation in military planning, execution of military operations, nuclear weapons technology and intelligence sharing with each other has been described as "unparalleled" among major powers. [1] .....................

However, as David Reynolds observes: ‘For most of the period since 1919, Anglo-American relations had been cool and often suspicious. America’s “betrayal” of the League of Nations was only the first in a series of US actions—over war debts, naval rivalry, the 1931-2 Manchurian crisis and the Depression—that convinced British leaders that the United States could not be relied on"

Note "America's betrayal of the League of Nations" - Yes The United States would not even join the League of Nations ! despite the WT telling us for years that this entity :"became chief sponsor and life-giver both to the League of Nations and to its successor, the United Nations. " WT 1988 12/15 pp19-20

That is disingenuous to say the least ...Although the then U S President advocated the League, he could not persuade his countrymen to join it.Notice also the date that Wiki gives to the start of the term "Special Relationship", 26 years after the League was founded !

Daniel Pipes wrote the following :

"In his famed "Iron Curtain" speech delivered at Fulton, Missouri in March 1946, Winston Churchill popularized the term "special relationship" to describe American-British ties that had developed during World War II. Over time, others then applied the notion of a special relationship to U.S. connections with a host of other foreign states, including Canada, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Ireland, Germany, Liberia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, the Philippines, China, and Japan. While each of these is special in its own way, the most special relationship of all is undoubtedly the one with Israel, as politicians 1 and analysts 2 both recognize."

I am not saying that the above commentator is necessarily right in his assessment, I just quoted it to show that the USA/GB united power is not universally recognized.

What we do see on the news most days is a close relationship between two independent nations . The U K has joined the European Community contrary to the expectations of some old Witnesses at the time who thought that Bible prophecy would preclude it.

I used to wonder about this. There never seemed to be one "World Power" to me . I doubt if the Americans like the idea of sharing their status with Britain and Brits do not like their politicians being too close to America...

In conclusion...It is my assertion that the Anglo American Dual World Power is an invention by those who wish to find an application of Revelation chapter 13. It is not found in the world today and is yet another reason to throw the teachings of the WTS straight in the rubbish bin (not for recycling)

I always kind of thought that when the British Empire fizzled, America came into focus.

I never have heard the two linked, other than being allies. Good point, Blues.

    Fred Franz was a charlatan.

His explanation of the "three kings" that the "small horn" in Daniel chapter 7 put down is also suspect.

I never bought into the idea that the "small horn" is the USA and that those "three kings" were England, France, and the Netherlands.

Don't forget that Franz thought the "king of the north" was the old USSR and that it would dominate the king of the south - the U.S. and allies.

    Wrong again, Freddy.

This thread just brought back some terrible memories. 90 degrees outside, and stuck inside some little dining room without air condition. If we didn't come early enough, we'd be forced to sit on the chairs donated from the KH. Those awful metal folding chairs. The conductor didn't understand half the lessons, neither did the rest of us stuck in the room. Little kids being forced to stand up and face the corner wall because they kept falling asleep during the book study.

That picture always horrified me, but at the same time fascinated me as I was into Godzilla back then. That book was creepy. I swear the SyFy channel couldn't come up with anything as creepy as the locusts with the man faces.

Thanks for that BB. That is a really good point. I've never really thought about it properly. The same goes for the UN which is actually meant to be the world power now I believe, the 8th one. Not much power there. If a nation like U S wants to do something it won't change it's mind just because the U N does not like it. Some world power.

People 'studied' these books, Babylon the Great, Revelation, Your Will Be Done, and promptly forgot them. Few today will remember anything in them and the newer ones are just happy with the 192 page paperbacks that do not require any thinking about.
