i'm not sure if this was mentioned yet, but at this week's meeting they announced (or will announce for those who haven't had theirs yet) the availability of a new official statement on child abuse that can be downloaded in the legal section of jwdotorg.

(funny it's in the legal section, it just shows their mentality and how this is really damage control.

I think the point that is always missed, regardless of how complete and sensible the updated policy might be, is that just like any good old cult, they speak from both corners of the mouth and they always will

When they speak of not shielding perps from the authorities, it sounds good for an outside reader

For insiders, that means you have all the rights to bypass the "don't sue your brother" rule if the perp has been found guilty by two witnesses. If they are not, and you go to the police anyway, you are still subject to their harassment and possibly DFing.

We need to have it clear, having been there ourselves, that when they say they don't shield abusers, it means and will always mean "abusers that have been confirmed to be so by the two witness rule"

I have an apostate friend of mine who know him better. He may be either helping or has been moved from one congregation to another for assistance. I have not been to meetings in years so I am not sure but he tells me he is or was an elder on two of the three congregations that meet in that hall.

I am writting a letter to the editor to inform her of the connection to the JW

The man in the article is an elder for two local congregations to South Texas. One of which I used to attend. Article was posted on a local paper last night. Well known and well respected elder. I never interacted with him personally. I will be following this closely.

They claim to have no association with the Watchtower. Are they playing the word game? Like, we are not associated with the Watchtower but omit to mention they are associated with the Christian Congregation of JWs?

An old thread in this forum mentions something about people having to pay for their own until their funds ran out. After that the place would consider supporting you if you had a good recommendation. But those links are no longer working

Wasn't there also a place for retired COs?

Any info you can send my way would be greatly appreciated. Wife chats with this older man who washes the windows at her office. Ironic, I know. The man also organizes trips to Bethel NY and was telling her about how in Canada they have this type of place. I wanted to send my wife some links to look over.

I kind of expected it. This is an event that even Satan himself could attend. Yes, If the WT don't quit blaming Satan for everything, soon he will be more qualified for mercy than the F&D slave himself (or themselves). So in order to keep the piece with the family, an appearance is a must. The good thing is that we will be in Austin, not in our home turf. That means no need to put on a face for elders on the hunt.

My relatives are near the Legend Oaks Area. William Cannon Dr and Hwy 290. I figure we will be at the KH on 71 or Manchaca.

Look around for a white tall guy with a hispanic wife and two girls. Drop by and say hi!

Is My Wife Awakening?

every now and then, my wife will talk about how things are not making sense within the org.

i usually just dismiss it as her playing mind games with me.

for example, she would ask why there are so many branches being closed or why so many congregations are being merged.

Cheers! that is a great signal. Use it synergistically just like you have so far. Don't be afraid to give gentle tugs whenever the mood is up for it. Keep it inline with the same subjects she's brought up. Don't deviate from it or present anything that is far separated from the issues that seem to matter to her. May be add the fact that because of the "growth" we are supposed to pay for the hall indefinitely? How can that be? Who is keeping all the money if branches and halls are being cut?

Random Musings of an ex-JW in a boring meeting

[sorry for the long post].

i have been eagerly waiting to find another opportunity to write here.

i am somewhat done just ranting about the usual stuff that comes out of the watchtower society and its continuous, relentless futile effort to look like or resemble the organization that their alleged god would accept and proclaim as his own.

I can not say with 100% certainty that she is "awake" as you and I would understand the word. I can tell you we have not gone to a single meeting in over a year (or may be even two years... I honestly lost count!! )

We went to the memorial last year as it is one of those JW events that even the weak attend. I can certainly say her main driver is to keep her mom happy. We went to the summer assembly and while we were in total agreement about it, she did not rush on getting there. We made it there past noon every single day.

We had not had a single reason to argue over JW crap during this time and we are as happy as we used to be. We are celebrating our kids B-days with simple family outings, lots of gifts and even small cakes. (no candles though).

She greeted me Happy New Year January 1st with a big smile on her face (felt very genuine) and upon finding out I was leaving this group she told me not to worry. She proposed "we form our own group (me and her) of an xxxxxxx (using the groups name which again I rather not disclose) and his supportive wife"

Once again, while I can't say with certainty, from an onlooker's perspective it would be easy to be fooled.
