if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.
since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

Mini, I believe that the legal dept. wants to touch all the bases when it comes to limiting the child abuse cases that have already piled up. Private homes could be a place where a pedophile or a pederast could be in waiting. With only a small group they could do something. At the kingdom hall they could not get away with it as in a book study setting.
Just my thinking between the other reasons why the society makes changes.

Mini, Do you remember the gas lines back in the seventies? Before the internet exposed the history of the society they did not move their little pinky to remove the burdens back then wherein gas was hard to get and you had to wait for hours on line to get gas.
Back then the gas situation was worse because some could not get enough gas to use their cars for work, meetings, and field service. Yet the society did nothing to relieve the burdens the friends were going through back then.
The internet has changed the way the society acts. Legal tells the society what to do, not a 2/3rds vote.
They did not care then nor do they care now. Why wait until Jan.2009? Why not effective immeadiately?
Liability under the guise of damage control is the new light.
What do you think about my response? Anything to it?

To define either of these two definitions one must conclusively answer the big question first. Does God exist? Ever since man has had the ability to communicate that question has undoubtedly been asked in one form or another.
Thousands of volumes have been written on the subject of a god, and now your topic question:"Atheist or Agnostic" is dealing with the concept of a supreme being that some have claimed to have limited knowledge and or limited proof of his existence and that some have claimed they don't know.
I have come to learn that I know that I don't know how to answer this question. I have no personal experiences with a god, him ,her, it, Jehovah, or Jesus. Why that is, I don't know.
Using my own reasoning, I think that something or someone got life started. Was the universe always here? Was a god always here? My limited mind can't reach an answer to my own questions?
There have always been three camps when it comes down to answering these questions.1) for, 2) against, 3) don't know. I'm in the third camp for now.

cheap paperback books.15 minute rule.reduced pioneer requirements.public/private watchtoweronly one pair of mags to public per month.doctrinal changes re 'generation', 1935 etcpublic talk cut to 30 minutes.and now the book study kicked into the long grass.this is an organisation that, since the big 1995 'generation change', is clearly slimming down and planning it's future srategy.
real estate is being sold and essential operations are being relocated to more cost efficient locations.

Most of the older generation is dying off. What you have left is burnt out and used up, financially broke, no pensions, no medical, no savings, and many left alone as their mate has died.
These older ones have given their all to an ungrateful society that has left them in the lurch. Blood is on the altar of the society. The lifeblood of the older generation has been drained from them.

Legal has a set of books called "WORDS and PHRASES", the society also likes to use words and phrases whenever they make a change and want to make an impact on the rank and file. "Shortly take place", "Fast approaching", "Draw nearer to the great tribulation", "Satan's anger". How many times have they used such phrases to explain why they are making a change?
This meeting adjustment has nothing to do with those words and phrases. Legal is guiding the Governing Body to avoid anymore legal issues that they already have stacked up against them.
Remember, the watchtower recently taught that the anointed have no more spiritual understanding then the rank and file has.

News Flash! Letter from Governing Body announcing meeting schedule changes
by mizzarco inthe watchtower meeting (this congregation meets on sat) that i just listened to via phone conference was cut 10 minutes short to have a letter read to all the congregation.
here are the highlights:.
- the governing body realizes that the pressures of this system of things are getting heavier on his people.. - just like the governing body of the 1st century, we do not want to add additional burden to you either.

"After engaging in a great amount of meditation and prayer, we have decided...." If you had to break down the words of this sentence..Engaging...Great Amount....Meditation....Prayer, what would you conclude about the Governing Body's way at arriving at a decision that would require at least a 2/3, two thirds vote to make any kind of changes, whether it be meeting attendance or any other doctrinal change such as the recent "Generation" new light understanding?
Really, come on, did they really engage in a great amount of meditation and prayer in order to decide to make this change with the book study and to arrive at new understanding on the generation doctrine?
Me thinks not so. Me thinks, its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, nothing personal friends, its just business. What do you think?

Let me say this about that, further more, on the other hand, like I said before.Seriously. It's all about containment and liability. Legal is directing all departments, no Holy Spirit here. Not a move is made unless legal has covered every angle. No more 2/3, two-thirds vote. Governing Body listens to legal first, protecting their assets is number one. Every future decision is now guided by the legal light burning 24/7. Then the spin experts put it in motion as if the Governing Body has received new light and the rank and file go OOOHHHH!
Remember, it was not too long ago when the Governing Body said that they do not have any special knowledge and that the great crowd has as much knowledge as they do.So, to sum it all up and answer your question, anything that seems new is really not new, it's been done in the past and is now recycled under "CYA" legal follow the money.
