Cyber equality/Pretty boys lose their edge
by Maverick ini was thinking today about a certain poster who seems to have a hard time dealing with anyone who does not embrace his point of view.
he appears to be one of those big, very good looking men who is use to having people pander to him.
y-all know the type, pretty-boy, who the ladies, starting with momma, always think is wonderful no matter what stupid thing he does or says.

Think of this, there are some 6 million publishers in the world, if evrey pub. got just 2 copies that's half of the printing of each issue. The numbers are much higher than this. How many get thrown away, who would admit it? I get 4 copies of each issue and then when the counter is unattended put three back....

It is interesting to see the realm of diverse posts, some I find informative, some boring, some stupid, and so on. IF we all thought exactly the same, what a boring life. I must admit thatI'm amazed to see that folks have made thousands of posts, I don't often have time to make posts and when I do I'm not in the mood for long philosophical discussions and tend to post on the lighter side of things.

Do Circuit Overseers Give Up Their Lives For Jehovah?
by minimus ini've heard for years how we should really appreciate the circuit overseers and their wives for all that they give up to enter the circuit work... do you think that's true?
?

Please! What the heck do they give up? The last CO we had (read that JERK) used to be a Pepsi truck driver.
CO's in the US now get a new LeSabre every three years. All expenses paid including health benefits plus a small cash stipend from Brooklyn. Oh and of course the paper handshakes are extra little treats when they visit the cong. Had one Co that would only put Goodyear double eagle tires on his Buick Electra. Many get extra things too such as cruises and trips paid for by those looking to suck up.
Can't name one in the last twenty years that was really a gentleman or that I thought highly of. Most are high and mighty asses. The DO's are worse yet. Shame on them. These guys are no tentmakers. They have had their reward in full.

Sunday Drama at JW Convention: Not Bad, Really
by Room 215 inin the ``giving credit where credit's due" category, i must say that while curiosity drew me to spend an hour or so last sunday morning at the convention in philly, i must confess to having been pleseantly surprised by the drama.
sure there was the usual hamming it up with over-the-top histrionic gesturing and laughable synthetic beards we've come to expect; but since it stuck nearly verbatim to the events chronicled in the book of acts from pentecost through the trial and martydom of stephen it was remarkable for its christ-centricity and for the total absence of watchtower spin or any reference to ``the governing body," the "faithful and discreet slave" and ``organization.
"" except for a few spurious ``jehovahs" here and there, it might have easily been mistaken for some sort of baptist pageant.

Found this year's drama a little thin. In times past they used nice sound effects and music. This year little of anything to spice up the material, music between scenes only. Yes U.V. Glass is sorely missed, I knew him personally and found him to be a kind and considerate person.
Bet you didn't know that the chief of the Bethel CIA aka Service Department - Ted J. was responsible for stopping many of the things the brothers found interesting in the dramas, Gilead grads, and Branch dedications. No longer allowed to have special musical presentations at any of these events, too worldly per Ted J. "The Boss" Sad indeed.

Good Experiences as a Jehovah's Witness
by minimus ininstead of bringing out the negatives about being a witness, let's relate some good experiences!
i'll start.
i remember a sister that brought up all her kids up in the "truth" and her husband was very opposed but later he started studying and he even got baptized.

Actually I have many fond memories as a JW, but most relate to good times with people not Org related mumbo jumbo. Unfortunately those experiences are more in the past than recent.

Ever do Volunteer Service at Bethel?
by Bendrr ini can't remember the proper term but they used to have volunteers come serve for a week or two at the farm.
i had some friends serving at bethel at the time, the grimsley family, and they sponsored me to come up there for a week when i was 16. i flew up and stayed with some friends of theirs a few miles away from the farm.. all in all it wasn't a bad way for a 16 year old georgia boy to spend a week before school started back.
i got to work with a pretty cool group of folks that week and i made a lot of new friends, none of whom i ever got to stay in touch with though unfortunately.

I once delivered 16 tons of sand to Aussie Bethel Farm
I told 'em to pound sand.
Did some volunteering and then actually got a personal invitation from the Factory Committee to come to serve as a Bethelilte, which I did for about three years. Finally got fed up with all the BS and told them bye bye baby! They were in shock because I have professional skills they were falling all over themselves to find.
BTW due to New York laws Bethel has more than one ambulance. Has to do with the number of employees - read that volunteers - in residience.

Data Protection Act
by SadElder ini've read some about the data protection act in britain, just exactly how does it affect the congregation structure?
if no records can be kept on publishers it would sure put an end to the secret little files the bethel cia aka service department can keep.
any experience with this and how can we get it started in the us?
