What Makes A Person Black?

obviously athletes linford christie and carl lewis are black.

but how about persons of mixed parentage, are they considered to be black too?.

how about my son's old girl friend whose grandmother was from the phillipines, is she black because her skin had a slight (and very beautiful) brownish glow that came from her ancestor?.

You white people are sooooooo funny. You have NO clue.

But don't fret. Ariell is here to set the record straight.

Caucasians are white. African Americans are black. Indians are red. Asians are yellow. Mexicans are brown. Although the latter three aren't referred to as such on a regular basis as whites and blacks are. Perhaps there's a reason for that. There's this thing called a race spectrum scale. Whites are clearly at the top while blacks are way way down at the bottom. Everyone else just falls in between.

No one outside the African or Aboriginal race is considered to be black. As someone mentioned earlier, there's a one drop blood rule that applies to blacks. It goes back to slavery. Even if only your great, great, great, great, great grandmother was black, you're still considered to be black. But if one of a "white" person's grandparents was indian, they're almost always considered white. Does Walker, The Texas Ranger ring a bell? So that's what determines if you're black or not, your ancestory, and not this cultural nonsense you guys have been babbling about.

I've been stressing over this very same thing over the past few weeks after recieving countless magazines.......errrr "college brochures" in the mail. And not only over things we don't read, but the things we read as well. I actually thought about going into advertising, but killed the idea once I realized that half of magazine content, if not most, IS advertisement. You would think that with the increased popularity of the internet, communication via paper would decrease somewhat, but it hasn't. Sure hopping in the bed with a book or mag on a rainy day sounds better than sitting in front of a computer, but at the same time, what's happening to our environment? It's going to shit. That's what.

over the past month i've literally fried my brain trying to figure out whether or not i should go to college, what should i major in, which career should i pursue.

Over the past month I've literally fried my brain trying to figure out whether or not I should go to college, what should I major in, which career should I pursue. Should I get married or just have a few close friends ? Is it wise to have kids or wait til I'm 40 and become a foster parent? I've given myself a headache worrying about what I'm gonna be doing each and every friggin' year of my life. But today I had a revelation. To hell with it all. I'm tired of planning for what may very well turn out to be a miserable future. I'm gonna work for a year and save some money. Move to jamaica for fun in the sun and backpack my way through Europe. I may be broke when it's all said and done, but at least I'll be happy. And after that? Who knows. The sky's the limit.

Tori is definitely on the top of my list of singer/songwriters. I absolutely adore her. Bjork's unique music style is what caught my attention and still holds it today. It just turns on something inside of you. True, she is kind of weird and strange, but that's what I like about her. She doesn't try to conform and fit in with all the other hollywood cookie-cutter types, which makes some come off as artificial. Bjork is real. That's for damn sure.

I'm not too crazy about Cher's music, but I like her attitude. "To hell with the rest of the world. I'm gonna do what makes me happy." She has a young spirit. Who says you have to turn into an old frump and grump at 55 and act your age. Why not live life to the fullest?

it was nerve wrecking, scary, and exciting.

the more i read, the deeper i feel into the author's smooth talk-at least that's what i thought it was.

No one should try to cram their belief (or non-belief) down anyone else's throat.

That's exactly my point. As I said, if the guy had offered his religion as an alternative and not a must, I would have been more receptive. I don't try to convince everyone that there is no God and their religion is full of crap. The fact of the matter is I really don't know. Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. But I'm sure as hell not gonna tell you my confusion is absolute truth. All I'm saying is that these people seem to be trying to help JW's out of the borg. Trying to convert will turn more in than out. It defeats the whole purpose.

If the author had conveyed his convictions as an alternative rather than a must, I would have continued reading, but he didn't. Doubting JW's still see the hypocrisy in other religions. In their minds they're still part of Babylon the Great. There's no unity or structure. This is very important to the Dubs. Remember when it was important to you? Their doctrines are all over the place. Trying to convert them isn't going to get you any brownie points. It turns them off. So why do so many still feel the need to convert? Did this dub characteristic not go away after leaving? Do they honestly believe they have the truth? (Hmmm, why does this sound familiar.) Or is it just an ego-booster?

I still can't post long messages. What the heck is going on?

I remember when I first stumbled upon an ~~apostate~~ site. It was nerve wrecking, scary, and exciting. The more I read, the deeper I feel into the author's smooth talk-at least that's what I thought it was. He had me, but at the instant he answered that famous question most doubters ask "If not here, then where?", he lost me. BORN AGAIN CHRISTAIN? I begin to roll my eyes at this point and symbolically kicked myself in the rear end for going there in the first place. This prompted me to Watchtower Research in order to build my faith and dismiss the apostate trickery from my thoughts. Once again I was in my safe bubble and would remain there for another 2 years.

Why some will never leave the org.

we all had the same teachings when we joined the jw's.

we all studied the same books and magazines and all came to the same conclusion that this had to be god's organization.

we were told how god would establish a new world where we would all be healthy and eternal.

I like to ask JW's wahy they serve Jehovah and the num,ber one answer is .... "I want to live forever on a paradise earth."
Hmmm, I thought it was because he is God and worthy of our worship!

I agree that most JW's serve God for the prize. However, I would have to say the same thing for all other religions. Do you think there would be as many Baptists, Catholics, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. if they didn't think they would be going to heaven, reincarnated, or some other promise of an afterlife. Think of all the cults that have come and gone. There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Name one religion where people worship simply out of love for their higher power, with no reward.

the persistent passage of time has forced the borg to literally redefine the word "generation" to suit their needs (it now means any group of people within a span of time that can go on indefinitely).

i'm starting to get the impression that they are going to have to do something with the 8000 or so people who insist on partaking of the emblems every year, thereby identifying themselves as "anointed" and heaven bound.

in recent years they have tried to discourage people from partaking by emphasizing that they could be crazy or diluted or puffed up with pride if they partook (don't ya just love my jw speak!?!?

Just another way to keep the "annointed class" exclusive to whites from the United States, England or Austrailia. I mean really, how many from Latin America or Africa got their calling pre-1935?

Precisely. If the calling was from God they would have gotten it, but it wasn't. The Watchtower gave the call. So you had to have already been a believer to hear the accouncement of two classes. The so-called "good news" hadn't reached the ends of the earth. This is what makes that "special feeling" claim so bogus. They should have known before the change in doctrine or did God wait until 1935 before giving them the "special feeling"? I would love to see them explain this one.

Me: Mom, it's on the official website. Their name is listed in the directory.

Her: Anyone could have put that there. (an apostate of course)

Me: It doesn't work that way.

Her: The UN could have lied.

Me: The Watchtower officially said they did it for a library card. I can show you a scanned copy.

Her: Anyone could have forged that letter.

Me: I can show it to you on an official news site.

Her: I won't believe it until I hear it from the horses mouth.

So here I am, trying to figure out how to get it from the horse's mouth. Will the society be willing to admit to a mere questioner they were a member just for a library card? Would it be better to email or snail mail?
