Didn't Russell form several corporations? It seems to be that I remember an article that mentioned one that had the word "cemetery" in it as well as "American." Did these corporations have anything to do with Russell's attempt to hide his assets during the divorce proceedings involving his wife, Maria?

Disassociation and Ray Franz
by greatteacher indoes anyone think that the rule which states that "associating with a disassociated person is a disfellowshipping offense" was created to disfellowship ray franz?
the reason i ask this is because i noticed that the watchtower published many articles with that rule at the same time period franz left bethal, but published nothing about it before around 1981.

When asked about the disfellowshipping policy of shunning family members, elders will often say that this is a "personal decision." This is a sly way of trying to mislead the inquirer to thinking that it is not a policy of the Watchtower Society...but rather a decision made by individual members.
It is true that some JWs have ignored the counsel and continue to see their df'd family members. But those who are knowledgeable of the Society's rules and regulations and the "spirit" in which they are written have no doubt that the Society and Jehovah's Witnesses in general teach and practice shunning. Just ask all XJWs who have been shunned by their family members.

Most of the Kingdom Halls I attended, the records were kept in a filing cabinet that was locked. This was usually located in the office where the elders held their judicial meetings. These files were not to be taken home by the elders. But I'm sure this rule was ignored by some.
There is probably no way that a person can have access to these records. These would be considered "confidential" documents of the congregation.

I'll add my thanks to you for sharing this interesting experience with all of us. I'm sure your neighbor is harboring some doubts. I don't think she would even entertain the discussions you've had with her unless she has pondered some of the contradictions that are evident in the Watchtower Society.
Be careful, though, not to overwhelm her with too much information. You may find it useful to hammer away on one or two points. (It sounds as if you may be doing this.) Doctrinal points can be argued...as history well testifies. But the weakness in the organization and some of its peculiar teachings (FDS) are vulnerable.
God bless you. And keep up the good work!

Bible criticism is fairly recent. It had to be. The Catholic church kept the Bible and the study of it as its own private domain for centuries. Until men like Wycliff and Tyndale made the Bible available to the average person, the Bible was not widely distributed and known. Those that were hunted down and persecuted were more likely to be other Christian groups that the Church considered as heretic or apostate. Later, the men that were persecuted and killed were those who desired to study the Bible and make it available to all. It was only after they successfully accomplished their purpose that Bible criticism came into vogue. By then, the Catholic church was helpless to stop the publishing and distributing of any literature. And most of these writings including Bible criticism still exists.
Recent archeological discoveries of ancient Bible manuscripts have confirmed the general accuracy and purity of the text. (Example: Dead Sea Scroll of Isaiah) Most of the changes of text are insignificant and do not alter the understanding ot it.

I'm sure you are aware of the ancient historians who reported the base practices of the Celts and Druids in their religous services. (Strabo, Ceasar, etc.) I'm also sure that you deny these by accepting the revisionist versions of the Neo-pagans. There simply is no reason to argue the sources since we will not agree on this either.
Do I feel that these ancient religious rites that included human sacrifices are evil? Absolutely! And I think that the symbols and traditions of witches closely relate to Satanism.
What I don't understand, though, is why you don't embrace Christianity if you really believe their origins are from primitive pagan sources.

You are correct to point out that none of these products have been approved. As the article noted, each one has a problem before it can be approved for use.
There is no logic in the abitrary decisions of the Watchtower Society with regard to blood and its factions. And this has resulted in a terrible loss of life for some of their members.
I feel the Watchtower Society and its leadership will have to answer for this one day.

Most witness's don't even look at the pictures in their books.
by Singing Man inlike the one of the little girl falling into a big crack in the earth, a picture of amagedon from the paradise book.
few witness's stop and ponder just how sick that really is to show kids that at a young age.
if anyone has that post it to this thread for others to see just how hurtful that could be for children of a tender age.

I don't know...but I have always felt that this issue was a "tempest in a tea pot." When I studied with my kids in the Paradise book, those pictures were the first thing they wanted to see. Instead of terrifying them, it fascinated them. They were never traumatized nor did they have bad dreams over these illustrations. I think many just over react to everything the Watchtower does.
I wonder how many parents who protest this allow their kids to watch the violence and mayhem on TV or think nothing of it when their kids read the graphic comic books of today?

It should not be overlooked that Ray was eating with his employer at the time. Peter Gregerson provided Ray and Cynthia with a house and a job. The terrible rumors and gossip about Ray were encouraged and spread by those in the organization. And I have no doubt that it was the GB that was the force behind the elders' action to disfellowship Ray. From such a record, it is easily discerned who was and was not acting in a Christian like manner.

There have been a plethora of anti-Christian books in the last few years. They seem to come and go on a regular basis. The more outrageous the claim the quicker they seem to disappear. The one book that remains is the Bible. I don't think there is any danger of it disappearing anytime soon.
