by Bryan ini believe the body of elders was created in the early 70's, as opposed to the one elder running the show.

Good advice from "Queer Eye"
by JeffT ini didn't see it, but my wife just yelled it at me and i thought i had to put it here.
carson told the guy that he needed to be clean and well dressed even if he was just lounging around his home because "some really hot jehovah's witness might come to the door.

Do you remember what the episode was called (they usually name them after the first name of the make-over subject). They also list his occupation; can you remember any of that? It will be back on again; they show each episode multiple times.
At our house, we're big fans. It ought to be required viewing at the KH, the bro's would learn a lot about how to wear a suit. In a recent edition, Carson displayed a three button sports coat and, starting at the top button and working his way down, said, "Sometimes, always, never," thus teaching the correct approach to buttoning a jacket.
This show has turned around my JW-induced thinking on the whole gay issue, and probably had the same effect on millions of other guys.

Having older ones listen by phone will pump up attendance. Then at the end of a public talk they can say to the 40 people in actual attendance, that all 65 persons enjoyed the talk!
This was done in my former congo; a typical announcement was, "...all 145 in attendance, including 18 tied in by telephone...."
I had never heard this before, but I also had never been in a congo where there was a phone system that could accomodate so many. In a previous congo, we had one person hooked up to the sound system by phone, and when others asked to do so, they were told by the PO that we didn't have the technology to do so; he told the elders privately that if we invested in the equipment to allow multiple callers to listen to the meeting by phone, a large number might stop coming. He was adamant and never got much argument from the rest of us. I think there was a feeling on the part of the body that he was right, that if people could "phone it in" they'd stop coming to meetings.
I wonder how many other halls had systems to allow multiple call-ins?

The lure of paradise earth?
by little witch incan someone explain to me what the excititment is concerning paradise earth, as the dubs see it?
paradise seems to be the carrot on a stick for witnesses, but little information seems to be offered.
from what little discription they do give it seems to me to be a boring place to be.

Paradise earth = Heaven
Armageddon = Hell
It's just a rewrite of what you learned in Sunday School.

I remember hearing F. Franz piped in to the Ogden, Utah District Convention in the early 1980's. He was very much "over the top"...
I remember that, too. And, yes, he certainly was... That should have been a clue (sigh).

I wonder if the elders are aware that the young ones are preaching about the blessings of the false god Jahoveh
Not only that... they are exalting their mother over others humans. Next thing you know they'll be grown up and calling her every year on her birthday and mother's day just to, you know, say hello.

Dear Brother Finger,
In response to your question about the amount of door to door (Acts 20:20) field service necessary to perform prior to baptism, we are pleased to report that, effective Mar. 1, 2004, a new requirement will be in place in the UK. We are certain you will agree this new simplified arrangement will be a blessing to all of God's people.
The new arrangement calls for just one (1) hour of field service to qualify for baptism. The Service Committee of your local congregation is in the best position to determine how such time can be counted. Of course, we urge you to use your time wisely, "buying it out" as it were.
No doubt this new, simplified, spirit annointed arrangement will lead to a glorious increase in the number of Kingdom Publishers in this small but really quite important corner of the international field.
As you know, the requirements are more stringent in other foreign lands. However, it has come to our attention that in the UK many have become "sluggish" (Heb. 6:10,11) about engaging in this lifesaving activity, so this new arrangement should make it easier for all to engage in the ministry.
Good health (but not "Geshundeit") to you!
Your Brothers,
Branch Office

Another former food service worker reporting in...
I think in many ways the decision to "simplify" and eliminate food service was the beginning of the end for the WT. My fondest memories "in the truth" stem from those assemblies, where we worked our butts off 12 hours a day with brothers and sisters who became our best friends and comrades. There was a real spirit of cooperation and teamwork in this environment. There is something beneficial about feeding your friends. That's why we have people over for dinner, or take business associates and fellow workers to lunch; it builds a bond.
Many of us were disappointed after food service ended and we had to sit in the stands for hours and listen to an endless supply of dribble from the platform. We'd missed most of that for years because we were backstage or in the adjacent auditorium working, and had no idea how painful a convention could be when you have nothing to do but sit there and take in the empty speeches. I know brothers and sisters who, to this day, are angry that this opportunity to "network" was taken away from them.
There may have been legitimate taxation or logistical reasons for killing off food service, but in the intervening years I've seen a pattern that tells me they did it because some people were having too much fun.
