Division between soul and spirit
by M.J. inhebrews 4:12
for the word of god is living and active.
sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Biblical beliefs that are similar to older pagan beliefs
by M.J. ini'd like to list some beliefs within judaism and christianity that bear a resemblance to older pagan beliefs.
the wts is deceptive when they selectively point out such parallels, but only with respect to beliefs they reject.. for example, the wts argues that the origin of the concept of the immortal soul is in egyptian and babylonian mythology, both of which espoused such a concept.
but they neglect to also point out that babylonians wrote flood accounts similar to the noah story before the writing of genesis, or that baptism was practiced in pagan religions before the birth of christ.

Who will be resurrected according to the WTS?
by M.J. ini was wondering what the wts's stand is on who will be resurrected into the "new system".
because of the assertion that people have been "freed from sin" upon their death, shouldn't just about all people who ever lived deserve a resurrection?.
the only ones who won't be resurrected, according to the wts, are those who commit the unforgiveable sin:*** g75 10/22 p. 12 how can you benefit from this hope?

WTS advocates resisting rape to the point of death?
by M.J. inover the years the wts has vacillated on its stance regarding the distinction between rape and mutual consent to fornication.. in years past, the wts has stated that "the primary distinction between rape and consent was whether a woman screamed for help.
" (awake!, 4/22/73, p. 17).. the wts's latest published stance, however, states that while the act of screaming establishes innocence of the victim, screaming in itself is not the sole criteria for determining the victim's innocence before god.
if one is incapable of screaming, it does not matter, since jehovah can read a person's motives:.

How did you overcome the allure of Paradise? Or have you?
by M.J. ini think the biggest reason someone maintains their faith in the wts is because the wts is the "ticket" to paradise earth.. how did you deal with the prospect that the "ticket" salesmen weren't totally reliable?.
did it cause you to let go of your hope in paradise earth?
did it redirect it to another hope?.

Come on! Let's get the Big News article in the hands of lawyers and victims
by M.J. incopies of the article can be purchased as a stand-alone copy: http://www3.baylor.edu/church_state/ordering_publications.htm.
i've personally ordered a handful and will distribute to some local lawyers and medical staff that would be quite interested in a better understanding of the issues surrounding the jw blood policy.. if you are skeptical about the article's potential effectiveness and feel this would be a wasted effort, no problem, just don't bother to fret about this post or this idea.. but if you think this might have a shot at making a difference, then let's give it that shot!
like its been said, it has to go to court.

Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy?
by M.J. ini'm sure this has been addressed quite thoroughly here...could someone provide a rundown/links on the credibility of the wts interpretation?
does it agree with most bible scholars?
does it in any way validate the "year for a day" method?.

Will the new system be uncrowded?
by M.J. ini was talking to an elder yesterday about how enjoyable it is to get away from civilization in remote wilderness areas, unlike the circus you see at places like yosemite natl.
park in california.
with dreamy eyes he mentioned how great it will be in the "new system", when "we can enjoy uncrowded conditions.".

Faithful Slave selection in 1918--originally a housecleaning doctrine
by M.J. ini stumbled across the following passage from the nov. 1, 1944 watchtower, pages 331-332:fulfilled prophecies make it certain that jehovahs theocratic servant christ jesus came to the temple in 1918. then he entered into judgment with the consecrated servants of jehovah.
he did so in order to determine who of them should be retained in gods service and be constituted and organized as his "faithful and wise servant" class to do the evangelistic work thenceforth.... .
during the period from 1878 to 1918 jehovahs devoted servants were endeavoring to act unitedly in doing the witness work pictured by that of elijah the prophet and hence referred to as "the elijah work".
