Did an EX-JW wake you up to TTATT or did you put the effort to wake up yourself?
by John Aquila inhow many of us were woken up by some apostate yelling false prophets at a convention?.
how many of us were woken up by someone holding a sign and yelling, what happened to 1975.
how many of us were coerced to investigate the wt because some ex-jw pulled up a bunch of old watchtowers magazines and told us to read the false predictions?.

I woke up myself. I have not read CoC until decade later after KH as well Vision of Glory by Barbara G. Harrison. I did not had any apostate or ex-JW around me. What woke me up was book study in 1993/1994 of Revelation, It is Grand Climax at Hand. I just could not digest all the BS through this book. I also used this book for field service and study, and more thought I put into it, it was seen less and less as Channel of Truth from God. It occurred me that it is all fabrication, irrational construction, and wrong conclusion. Once I stopped believing it was Channel of Truth communicating with God, I saw it as man-made organization. Why I should stay in made-made organization, so I left. -

The world is having actually opposite problem, which is increasing obesity. In developing world, it reaches dangerous proportions and often the poorest states on this planet suffer with the highest level of morbid obesity. While many are aware of obesity rate in USA, UK, Germany, it is actually far worse in Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, but also in Africa and Middle East. (Mali, Mauritania, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia). In these countries people have as twice as much of caloric intake than industrial countries of the North. One main issue for the rise of obesity is a consumption of sugar, which became extremely cheap in past 25-35 years.
Famine would return only if there is a catastrophic weather change world-wide, which would disrupt supplies everywhere. Today there is no problem to import fruits from Chile, vegetables from Spain, grain from USA and butter from Denmark anywhere in the world in case of localized food supply collapse.

My HS gave me excellent education, and we had a lot of after school activities. We had math five days a week, well staffed chemical lab and machinery workshop. Our teachers were dedicated. Once a while we go to near by medieval monastery for excavation or quarry to pick minerals that we analyzed in our lab. Teachers were doing it for free. Only our principal was communist, who was constantly drunk, and polished busts of Lenin, Stalin, and Marx in his office.
The food in HS was really bad. We got military canteen truck that arrived every day, and food was served to us as we were a war enemy. We had cucumbers every day, which is reason, I hate them and I have not ate them for 26 years. Sometimes we got tomato. Meat was only once per week and was often not available at all. We had sometimes mushy peas and boiled egg, bread, and soup. And cucumber. My grandmother had to work until she was 75-80 years, because communist pension would let her starve. She worked in very exclusive restaurant as a cook. Prior WWII she used to cook at the castle for baroness. After class, I sneaked to the kitchen when she was on shift and I could have a decent meal. I ate first mango, dates, kiwis after the fall of communism when I was already adult. It was just crazy political system.

OF DOGS AND BITES AND BIKES AND THINGS
by Terry inthe thought suddenly struck me plain and obvious: "these dogs won't stop until i'm good and bloody.".
there were two of them; a mixed breed of boxer and pit bull; clean, white--collared, tagged and--for some inexplicable reason, ferociously intent on tearing me to shreds!.
ah, but i'm getting ahead of myself.

Generally, pepper spray that is used for humans are not very effective against K9 dogs, who are trained and used to tear gas used by military and law enforcement. Therefore, Germany since 1950's produces pepper spray intended for dogs only. It is widely used in Europe, and if it can be purchased in USA. However, the point is to spray the dog and run, because it will disorient the beast for 30s to 90s. Standing there and expecting that dog will give up after spray, will not do anything good.
Stabbing a dog is hard, he must be very close, and there is no guarantee he would not get even more aggressive. Shooting dog randomly just because he is running toward you is not easy and also bring you in conflict with law. If dog is already biting your calves, there is a good chance you will shoot your own leg than hitting a dog. You can ask any LE who will tell you how hard is to shoot dog on your leg.
The best way avoiding this scenario is not get any strange animal close by. Not every animal is friendly and wants to be petted.

" Mathematics being 'cut and dried' and 'easily taught' ........ ahaha, you have just betrayed a profound ignorance of the ART of higher mathematics"
If I would pick another field of my study, it would be mathematics. My grandfather who was a member of Academia told me that mathematics is the queen of the science. People who encounter math, get generally burned out after Calculus encounter, and they are not aware of higher mathematics which often works with theoretical models. Differential geometry like Riemannian is hard (at least was to me). I personally dislike statistics and especially spatial statistics, which I have to deal on regular bases. At least we have tools for it to do various modeling and simulations. In previous job, we had team where we built geospatial statistical models and we had to do write ups reports for the clients explaining what these calculations represented. The math behind the processes was established on level that I had encountered at graduate courses.
Any case, measuring the age of geological features are fairly standard, well established by numerous fields in the industry (even insurance companies use it for probability risk like earthquake risk), and is well explained. Radioactive decay detectors are norm in labs around universities around the world, and thousands of people use it every day.

For trained K9 dog, even bear spray wont work, once he goes into attack mode. They are trained for this by police force. However, for untrained dog, it will cause disorientation, which should be enough to get away. Nonetheless, there are special pepper sprays against dogs used by postal workers, etc. Shooting dog... hahaha. You most likely will shoot your own leg than hit the dog. -

My father was K9 mountain patrol and he recommended to carry pepper spray. Dogs are more sensitive than humans and this would get them powerless. I witnessed once a dog attacking police officer, who shoot the dog, and the beast was continuing attacking and then run for another 100ft where he collapsed and died. Stabbing dog would be extremely difficult as it will make them even more aggressive once their blood is dripping.
Dogs attacking cyclists are very common. I used to jog a lot until 2008 when I had accident. I run about 20 miles per week on trail, and I was attacked once by dog, which I pepper sprayed and he run away. I was always afraid to get attacked on the trail, so I was carrying spray while jogging all the time. But it was a dog that I used it.

Christian religions do not want for humanity to improve, they thrive in suffering. They need ignorance and poverty, because this give them a reason to exist. Improvement will come either afterlife or with Armageddon. If science can cure diseases, feed more people, prolong quality of life, and minimize impact of natural disasters, it makes Christian religion obsolete. Therefore, religion opposes science, because it fears losing its importance.
