Do JWs Try To Convert Believers Of Islam?
by minimus inor do they regard them as they do ultra conservative jews and not waste their time with them, since as a people, they willfully abandoned jesus christ?

Only JWs who ever were successful in coverts of Muslims were in Yugoslavia. There was actually very large JW community in Bosnia in Sarajevo. Judging by the name back under Tito, many of these converts were from Islam background and families. One interesting fact in Bosnia was that urban areas were dominantly Muslim owning legacy of Ottoman empire where Muslim people were intelligentsia of the administration. Rural areas was Christian Orthodox. But this was before the Bosnian war and I do not know how it changed since then. -

When I used to go to KH, we had one elder there whose vocabulary would revolve around Armageddon only. He used to say in the 1980's that Armageddon will be within next year or even sooner. Year after year. Someone wanted to pain the house? Why to bother, Armageddon will be sooner before you finish your paint job. He inherited house from his parents, and over these years it turned into ruin as he and his wife never fixed. Around 1990 his roof almost caved in and he said that it was not worth to fix it, because Armageddon was soooo damn clooooose. When I was in my hometown 2 years ago, the ruin was still there and he still live in that shack. I have seen JWs who insisted to never grow old and die, but they did. My JW aunt was like that. When she died around 2000, her kids kept everything she had like that because resurrection will just happen and she will need to have all the cloths...etc. My cousins alone are in mid 50's and considering their unhealthy lifestyle, obesity, and lack of medical care due negligence of their health, they will be soon on their way out.. But Armageddon is so close. -

I donate from time to time to charity, last time last weekend. We had participated in AIDS walk, Breast Cancer, child leukemia, Katrina. Specific issues. I have not donated to JW cause since 1994. Back then I was giving equivalent $2 per week in local currency. My mom gives to KH about $5 every week. -

why did man go from living 900 years to 90?
by sowhatnow ini cant recall the scripture, where it says than only a few men will he live to be 80 years or so, can anyone recall that?.
so then im wondering, if it is a fact that men lived long years 900 in some cases, for what reason would god limit our lifespan if our time is so short compared to his?.
how on earth does man go from living 8 and 9 hundred years down to 80 to 100 ?.

This is one of the typical fairy tale Bible babble. There is not biological possibility that any mammal could live that long. Even whales who have very long life span or turtles do not live 900 year. Even fossils indicate that large dinosaurs lived between 60 to 80 years the most.
Egyptian and Babylonian myths are full of long lived people, but there is no any excavated evidence that anyone lived beyond 100 years. While old age over 90 was not very common in ancient times, it was not as surprising. Ramses II lived probably to the age 90+. Several ancient monarchs lived closed that age as well. In late antiquity many monks lived long age like Cassiodorus who died 100 years old, and Saint Nilo 95 years. These are documented ages as these people were very active and left extensive trails of documents over their long life span.

Worst Bible Verse ... EVER
by Wild_Thing infrom the nwt, of course.
none of the other versions make it sound any better, either.
2 timothy, chapter 2 has been used and abused to suppress women everywhere.

My since childhood was I. Timothy 5:3 through 16. Especially attack on widows, and some of them just do not make sense like making younger widows get married and have children by arbitrary age 60. Entire chapter is deeply misogynistic and hypocritical. -

Is it common for old men to marry young JW?
by adjusted knowledge ini left in the 90's and marriage partners were similar in age at my former congregation.
i ran into a former jw friend from my childhood.
i haven't seen him in 15 years.

It is hard not to judge age difference among partners, but my rule, both people are adults and it is their business. -

How to change some significance of 1914.
by sloppyjoe2 ini first do not think they will change anything about 1914 for at least 20 or more years but one day it will have to happen.
since 1914 is their meal ticket and they have it in print prior to the year happening, they will never abandon the year altogether.
they have too much tied into 1914-1919 as well as have held onto it for too long.

Depending on what sources I have seen, the 1799 was not replaced until 1926 or 1928. So they claimed the end of times for 125 years. 1799 is still valid on the book in Harp of God in 1921 where on page 229 is published that "1799, marks, according to Prophet's own words, the beginning of the 'time of the end'". -

Huge Shift in Doctrine?
by Lemonp ini am not sure why more people aren't talking about this?.
the march 15 study edition of the wt has some major changes!
- all unbiblical "types and antitypes" are now dropped.

Vidiot, I did not mean that they will fade 1914 within next two years. It will take a decades until the generation of JWs who were attached to this year would die off. They did not change 1799 start of great tribulation until 1926-1928! Nobody was alive anymore since the time of the Napoleon's wars during Roaring 20's. -

Yes, Finkelstein, they will need to fade the 1914 all together. However, have you seen how ambiguous and neutral WT wordings had became? I think they just trying to release couple BS doctrines and put wait-and-see attitudes to see which one would stick to the JW crowd. It seems that they testing what their members will accept and than groom it as the new truth. It is hilarious, but also very sad manipulation. -

Some of the issues are not new. Rapture was taught to us in the late 1980's, and this was the first time I have ever encountered this word. Rapture became increasingly popular with extreme evangelical movements and WT just jumped into the bandwagon with them. Other issue is a pushed by necessity. As 1914 became distant year in a human history, they need to unwrap all the BS that was based on this doctrine. One of them is the 1918/1919 idiocy when they claimed that Bible Students were chosen by Jesus after for 3.5 years he was examining world's religion and discover a pack of prisoners charged with sedition in USA. I think it was 1919 year when they started to claim to be God's exclusive channel of communication. In order to unwrap from 1914, they need to erase all the theology tied to it. Since it been almost 100 years, they have must create new sets of doctrines, but this takes a years to establish. I see it as releasing balloons in the year, and which does not get shut down will eventually groomed as a new "truth".
