i've noted active, devoted jw's state the above.. and, it's not a problem for me to remain trusting of god, i just don't trust religions or men.. recently, a member of this forum stated that he remains an active jw, in the family of god's people, wanting to encourage and do good - whilst recognising that the pastoral leaders (the gb) have shipwrecked the faith of many, being unsound scripturally etc, etc.. stop and think about this - the bible says to not follow after those who lie and hurt the faith of "little ones".. the pharisees were accused of traversing over lands and expending much energy to make a single convert - only for that convert to end up worse of than he started off with.. it's one thing to not believe this is the 'truth' and feeling the awful pressure of managing ones life, trying not to lose ones family.. it's quite another thing to declare oneself to be a christian believer of god's jw household, and somehow believe the god of love would use corrupt liars to parade as jesus' brothers in the urgency of last days.

Fisherman, baptism is pagan origin and has nothing to do with mikvah. Any rabbi will tell you that. Rituals in mikvah have not association of baptism. Jews would be according to your logic baptized multiple times through their life. Ritual sumbersion existed also in ancient Greece. Act that St. John performed in baptism can be associated with river worship cult popular in Middle East. Good book on this topic is 'River of God, The: A New History of Christian Origins' by Gregory J. Riley. There other books going back to early 19th century, and even earlier. This NOT a new finding, but it was known among general public for at least 150 years.

$ 1 dollar a week x 8 million jws = $ 8 million dollars a week.

$ 8 million x 52 weeks in a year = $ 416 million dollars a year.

and its all tax free.. you know jws donate more than $ 1 dollar a week!

I wish how much my old KH generated, but my mom contributes $5 dollars every week for years, and not to mention extra money on convention or if they ask money for utilities or repairs. Additionally all my relatives told me that they have to contribute for overseer when he visiting, including cooking, gas, laundry and dry cleaners, or paying his dinner expenses. I have heard that from my mom, sibling, and other relatives who are in different congregations. When we had our first KH we had fund to it and we were putting money for several years. I am sure between 1990-1994 when I walked out I had put easily couple hundreds dollars to it over time.

SimonSays, if you attempt to copy entire post from someone else, at least you can add a link. Since this sermon is 10 years old and I have read it at the time it was posted, it took me 5s to google it out. Additionally, I have read both St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas as required literature in the college I know exactly what the authors had said. I have both publications. Both authors are founder of Catholic philosophy, and I do not necessary consider Augustine views as authoritative for faith and religion, nor to be considered to be the "Truth". There is a bit difference what Jews believe, which would be detrimental in the time when NT was written versus Catholic church dogma developed centuries afterwards.

So not sure why on the board of ex-JWs you are attempting to validate YOUR religious view written by catholic philosophers of the past.

Baptism itself has pagan origin and was associated with river god in Middle East. Judaism does not teach baptism. Mikvah has no relationship to baptism as it was used regularly by the community like in Yom Kippur and cleansing of pots used in synagogues.

Orthodox church often engaged in the rebirth / reaffirmation baptism of adults, which often turned into mass event. In 1989 mass baptism was nationalistic manifestation of Serbian people in Kosovo, which precluded Balkan wars.

SimonSays, that picture is antisemitic. Additionally, Jews do not believe in devil, this is Christian invention. Satan in Judaism is not someone who oppose G-d, but a person who is used by G-d to conduct investigation on someone else misconduct. Earth-Water-Air-Fire-Spirit are symbols of creation from ancient Greece and totally unrelated to Christianity or Judaism.

Outlaw, problem with apologetic crowd outside JWs is that they are often more extreme than the WT and believe that WT is not going far enough to push crazy religious agenda. While JW are cult and have extremist understanding of Bible, there are still crazier Christian denominations than WT. These people believe that WT is channel of god's communication, but feel that it is not sufficient or the leadership is not good enough. They created parallel ministry and bring JW beliefs into much extreme thinking.

Seems very easy to leave now, why do people hesitate?

when i see people on here saying they've looked on several sites before this one, jwfacts, jwstruggle, youtube, etc., and then they make friends here, sometimes meeting up with ex-jws, it seems incredibly easy compared to leaving in 1989. .

no internet, no amazon to find ex-jw books, no facebook to link up with ex-jw groups.

still people find it so hard to leave.

I will say the biggest problem is social interaction. As a cult organization, JWs broke social network with their families, friends, peers, and dedicated their social ties to organization only. This cut them off from external environment and created delusional world of reliance among JWs only. Many members do not know anyone outside the KH and this makes the break difficult. This is especially true for older generation that lacks technology to interact in era of Facebook and mobile apps. My mom is almost 80, she knows that WT is much of BS as she does not recognize it as the same organization that she was 40 years ago. We have aunts, uncles, sibling, cousins in. If she leaves, she is afraid to lose social contact with them. My cousins who are elders will shun her. She may lose interaction with grandchildren. However, the younger generation is not as totalitarian self-sacrificing group as the elderly of the Knorr era. There is a hope that these people will have much easier way out and would not even bother with the KH social network.

SimonSays, again if you want to comment on something at least you should be familiar with some basic facts. Knorr was in Prague and Brno in 1947. This was in period after WWII and before communist takeover in Eastern Europe. Jehovah Witnesses were legal and such had protection under constitution. This was already the case in interwar period. Democracy attempted to flourish after war before Stalin decided otherwise in 1948. Catholic church had no whatsoever authority to ban any other religious group from worshiping. Strict separation of state and church existed for decades. When communists took power, they undermined all religions including Catholic Church (1950), Protestants (1951), Jews (1952-53), and later with JW (1954). JWs behind the Iron Curtain split because many stopped believing Knorr's BS. They were at least three different groups with thousands of followers. The biggest splinter group existed in Romania. Brooklyn did not get them under the control until 1990's.

Any case, Jeremy parallel ministry along side WT is nothing new and existed 50 years ago. There were many JWs who had two baptisms and secretly partake because they were with one foot in Brooklyn and other in their parallel underground JW ministry. Double hypocrisy.
