How Many Disfellowshipped Are There In The US?
by Village Idiot ini've read in the watchtower, as well as observed personally, that 1% of the congregation gets disfellowshipped every year.
i'm not good at the math but i figure that it's 40% since 1975 (yes i know, they're growing).
i know that quite a few return but still, there must be a large percentage of disfellowshipped jws who will never return.

In Czech Republic it is estimated that there is a much as JWs as DFs. In the 1990's 1/6 of males were DFs there through flip-flopping doctrine on alternative military service, which decimated their BOE. -

Ayn Rand - Opinions?
by cappytan infor those of you familiar with ayn rand and her ideas on morality, rationality and reason, what is your opinion of those ideas?.
i'm talking about her actual ideas, not the ideals that libertarianism has adopted and, in some cases, perverted.
do you think she's a charlatan?

I have read her book Atlas Shrugged and I seen some of the historical vintages movies. I don't agree with many of her views. On top of it she was racist and demanded internment camps for the blacks in the 1950's/1960's. In her mind it was unacceptable that blacks would demonstrate against government and demand any other rights. She later was confronted with that views and apologized, but it was too little too late. Additionally, her cult followers often talks about her hatred toward communism as a personal experience, but she left Russia right after the Revolution and have little experience with Stalinism, if any. I am not big fan of Objectivism as it is extreme as much as was Anarrchist movement in her era. Rand is a product of the early 20th century and it is better to keep it that way. World has changed since 1930-1950's to be followed by Rand philosophy. -

Does everyone here know they are on record with JW's forever?
by runForever inrichard ashe a full-time special servant of the order of jehovah's witnesses testified in the lopez case that every single disfellowshipping and disassociation and other things have all been scanned in 2011 and are and will be on permanent record with jw's forever.
is this legal?
another completely ironic and warped thing is the disfellowshipping form is called the s77 form.

I know they keep records of everyone who was associated with JWs. Several years ago, there was even a police investigation in the Czech Republic where they subpoenaed several elders on it. They also collect information on people who they studied with in the past. Of course elders were lying about it but I know several JWs has police visits in past several years due violating privacy rule and collecting PII, which is against the laws. There is a filed complaint on Czech court regarding this by social care work for people with disabilities whose data got into JW hands and were constantly visited by them. -

Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?
by minimus inin my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.
our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.
the second hall i was in was moderate.
-
kaik
My KH was fairly conservative. Many were the product of WWII and Stalinist oppressions and have lacked emotion or compassion to others. Their attitude was that everyone has to tough it up and they saw themselves as martyrs for the Truth. Even if someone had died, there was never kind words to cheer you up. Many of these men were extremely totalitarian and controlling, and were not educated. They could be a great addition to be a prison guard they once were thrown in.
When I lived in the capital city, the JWs were a bit different as they were product of urban life and sometimes they like to go out to eat or dance, and were generally liberal. I knew elder who loved hockey and was going to his favorite game all the time. They did not suffer with the mentality of self-sacrifice as did elders who were living in the mining regions. I also recall many their women (wife or mothers) were kind, they gave kids candies, they talked to nicely to everyone, and asked about your grades. They were classy and product of the upbringing in the Hapsburg monarchy or interwar republic.

Back in the 1970's my JW aunt told me that I wont have to deal with school anymore because Armageddon will be just behind the corner, and I wont have to do any homework. 40 years later, she is long gone; I did both undergrad and postgrad, and Armageddon nowhere on sight. -

Chinese house churches start to missionise muslim countries
by fulltimestudent ina lengthy overview suggests that chinese house churches are planning to end missionaries to islamic areas.. will it result in tragedies similar to the recent murder of two japanese?.

South Korean missionaries are already active in Muslim countries as several churches there believe that it is their goal and martyrdom to spread their version of Oriental Christianity among Muslims. Bunch of them got their heads cut off in Iraq, Afghanistan, or are held in prisons in Iran, Pakistan, and elsewhere. Generally in past 1000 years Christians were not successful in converting Muslims or Jews and this effort failed constantly from Catholic and Orthodox missionaries in the medieval times to modern Protestant and Evangelical movements. -

Where can Gay people get married in the USA?
by fulltimestudent init does not seem long ago that the answer was, nowhere.
and yahweh and jesus don't seem to mind, they arn't hurling fire and brimstone or making it flood everywhere.
life goes on as normal, people are, "eating and drinking, men are marrying men and women are being given to other women, just as they have been doing in many places on this globe for as long as humans have been on the earth.

I expect SCOTUS will eventually rule out in favor of gay marriage in the summer and it will be a law through all 50 states. -

How many JWs really believe the end will come "soon"?
by BU2B inthis topic has been on my mind lately.
i have been looking around at jws and wondering how many truly believe the end is as near as they are told.
from my personal experience, i know that my parents fully believe the end is imminent and may come any time now.
-
kaik
JWs who are serious about the faith believe that the End is near, just about to happen. More zeal and more deep in the WT BS, the higher expectation in upcoming Armageddon. However, as Steve said and I have mentioned before, many JWs are apathetic and could not care less if Armageddon arrives tomorrow or in 100 years. -

Jesus died for US...technically
by enigma1863 infor god so loved the world he gave his only begotten son and then took him back.
that's not love, its a big legal loophole.
people have technically died in the past, and by the standards of diagnosing death in bible times you could definitely beat 48 hrs and return.

drake, English is not my native language; therefore, there is difference between kike and kaik especially they do not belong to the same group of language, and this nickname is from ugro-finnish language which was Slavicized. Actually my SN predates my English as it followed it my since my childhood in far away place you most likely never heard off.
Whatever Paul wrote is irrelevant to the Jews. Paul was a false apostle and Jesus was a false Messiah. If you even bother to read a bit of Jewish faith or have at least college course on Judaism, I wont have to debate why there is too many fallacies in Christianity when it comes to ransom, and entire nonsense surrounding his existence. To Jews Jesus did not fulfill anything that would make him to be a Messiah. There is no reason accept him as Messiah when their writing clearly pointed out who he would be. Christian made a construct on OT outside of Judaism. Every rabbi would not have a problem to prove that NT is wrong and entire Christianity is founded on false understanding of OT. For 2000 years, Christians are unable to prove Jewish faith to be wrong, no religious Jews would accept Jesus, or reconcile the NT with OT.
Any case, I think I have a put enough on this topics. Jews do not believe Jesus is messiah nor that there is a need for mediator between you and the G-d. Everyone is free to believe what he or she desires. There is no debate on it. Jews and millions of other people do not believe in Christianity and the sky have not fallen down.

1st century Christians were most likely Jews. Since Jews do not have a temple they do not perform sacrifices or offerings which cased in 70AD. There is not temple, no offering as their beliefs dictates that this can be done only in the temple. It is actually forbidden to make offering elsewhere. Therefore, Jews believe repentance for and of their own, individual sins directly to G-d (Hosea 14:2). For Jews back then and today; there cannot be mediator between you and G-d. Therefore, no need for Jesus. You are responsible for your own sin, not for sin anyone else. This is one of the central teaching of Judaism.
Slidin fast, when I was with WT, the entire concept of the Christ sacrifice never made sense. The original sin, being imperfect due Adam and Eve, etc.
