Majority of the mammoths went extinct during interglacial period that was between 25 and 16 thousands years ago. Some species survived in Siberia and Alaska after last glacier period which ended 10000 BC and lived until the 500BC as small version of their ancestors. While elephant and mammoth lived partially in the same era, they lived in totally different climate and had different diet.

the flood, mammoths, elphants, and food.
by Crazyguy inmy question is since it looks as though mammoths were alive after the flood and we know elephants are then how much food was needed to feed just these four animals for the time they were on the ark.
also was the ark, 500 feet long, big enough to hold the amount of food needed for just these 4 animals.. .

the process is being accelerated by trying to sanction russia, as they draw closer to china and thereby build an alternative economic system( including a swift banking arrangement of their own).

DJS you are very correct. Russia will feel the pain from international isolation. Its primary export, which energy and minerals, will suffer. Economy will enter recession. Putin expected Kiev to fall and Russia take over entire country like Crimea. This had not materialized. The war with Ukraine will weaken Russia considerabely. It is not like fighting Caucasus insurgency. Russia managed to put hostility among two biggest and most populous Slavic countries, and it will take generation to repair damage. Ask any southern Slavs what they think of Serbia. Putin is attempting to revive USSR and needs to show it for the masses. Additionally it is not ethnically homogenous country and any deep economic and social unrest will tear this country apart as it did with USSR. Anyone who thinks Russia can challange USA needs to have reality check. The same is puzzling why so many Westerners are so fascinated with Russia and openly support its conquest of its neighbors (Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia). Even in 1939 during division of Poland, West supported Stalin. It took war with Finland to kick USSR out of the League of Nations, only one country that was ever, EVER, kicked out of it. After war until today, it is the same. How many of Westerners would support German's conquest of Europe? Not so many. One reason behind it is that German crimes were put into trial and revealed to the humanity. 50 millions of victims in the name of the barbaric communism organized from Moscow NEVER recieved much attention.

If you want to disapprove Daniel's nonsense used by WT:
- World is complicated place, and there are always winners and losers. Current word is moving toward large block on global scale immitating European gameplan of domination and balance checks known as quadruple alliance (France, Russia, Britain, Prussia/Austria). Today we have USA, EU, China, and Russia, nothing more or less. The quadruple alliance lived for 200 years
- "world will be less driven by Western Elites towards war". Millions of Chinese would disagree when they witnessed their country being attacked and occupied by Japan. Mongols conquered most of Asia and Middle Eaast and killed millions of people. Ottomans did the same. Timur killed millions from Syria to India and from Tien-shen to Russia.

metatron, if you want to know why revolutions happend, I recommend a great book "The Anatomy of Revolution" by Crane Brinton. USA is not 3rd world country were masses are awaiting for leader who is daddy Stalin, Pol Pot, Hussein, or Tito. Anglosaxon mentality of independence, self reliance, and democracy is strong, and combine it with high living standard that majority in the world cannot dream to achieve it. American middle class is wealthy, wealthier than European counterpars. It is shrinking, and there is tons of problems with the middle class in USA, but it is unachievable for most Europenans. I been in EVERY European country from Scottland to Greece and from Spain to Finland. I was born to middle class family in Europe, yet, only 10-15% of Europeans have American middle class living in suburbia. Europe has better Interstate and railways, but they have horrible state and county roads, even in rich countries like Austria and Germany. I drove through California in Central Valley, along the coast on Rt 1 or through the Sonora desert, and the roads are excellent. Try taking roads between Vienna and Gmund, or between Passau and Regensbug, and compare the quality betwen CA and wealthiest region in Europe. California would win, even when German countryside is much cleaner.
USA is not finnished. It will be here for a while. It wont be here forever, as no country last forever. Even Roman Empire and British empire disintegrated. But it is premature to see and expect death of America (which is wish of many anti-americans world-wide) in our lifetime. It wont happen.

Do You Regard President Obama In The Same Way As You Did BEFORE The Election?
by minimus inlately, even late night comedians are starting to make fun of the president.. i hear more negatives about the president than ever before---even from his own voters.. (i had high hopes for him when he beat mccain but since then, i believe the president has been a huge disappointment)..

I was never disapointed with Obama, because I see him as a politician. I do not see him as savior. He just know how to talk nicely. He is paid by political influences as anyone else. There are several issues I disagree with him:
- Federal deficit needs to be addressed. Deficit is getting better in the relative size of the economy, but its needs to go bellow 60%
- Have done very little into long term investment into the economy like space program, nanotechnology, medical science, defense and communication. With shrinking NASA budget and lack of new high tech labs that drove USA science program in the past, economy will suffer
- He needs to address welfare. While many poor people depend of the handouts and are really necessary in many cases, USA cannot affort to have millions and millions of people who do not contribute to the country in the form of taxes and only milk the system. This have to be done on the long run so people do not suffer with cut services as did in NC..
- Needs to move some bases from Germany and UK into Eastern Europe where they are welcomed. Bush and Obama cancelled many vital NATO projects and undermined readiness of it.

Russia nor China had strenght to challenge USA and West. West was never defeated as civilization. Russian economy is too small to influence major financial channels and hubs. Moscow is not Frankfurt, London, NYC, or Tokio, nor it is a financial capital. Outside major cities, Russian countryside is depopulating, impoverished, and backward, even in comparison to middle bracket countries like Poland and Hungary. I know because I drove through there. With increasing isolation on both international arena, and economics, its economy will have hard time to sustain. Just to sheer size of Russia is a problem because it needs to provide services, transportation, bureaocracy accross so many timezones, but its population is centered along two three major hubs. West is hostile, so is south with unstable Caucasus and Central Asia. War with Ukraine damaged relationship with all its neighbor even with countries that have neutral view of Russia and almost every Slavic nation. Putin's idea to attach Ukraine and Krym to Russia did not play as well. Krym is isolated and land corridor six months into the war did not materialize with southern Ukraine. Either way, Russia is heading into another lost decade of isolation as it had before 1991.
China does not want to get involve with Russian mess. They may cooperate, but they are hardly ally. China will not itself get manipulated by Russia against West and USA. In the term of economy, China can figure out that money are in USA and Western Europe than in Russia. Add to it long decades of disputes on borders and Sino-Russian suspission, the relationship is not that cozy. China cannot sustain its growh indefinitelly and any confrontation will reveal deep structural and economic problems of extensive growth in the past generation. All progress could be lost and China after riots of 1989 will not want to face angry masses. Russia is different because majority of population is extremely passive and politically disinterested except in outburst of nationalism. Russia did not experienced revolutions that swept communist party away as it happened in Czechoslovakia or Romania, or went through strike wave as did Poland, East Germany, and Hungary. Majority of population until the disintegration of the USSR actually loved the system. This a huge difference between China and Russia where one major international confrontation would swept both of them.
While USA has tons of problems and so does EU, never underestimate ability of Westerners to wage a war. In past 2500 years no single civilization ever was able to conquer them. Never.

Reading the Bible Alone "Will Lead you to Apostate Thinkings!" Stay a Watchtowerite!
by BucketShopBill in"from time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of jehovah's people those, who, like the original satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude...they say that it is sufficient to read the bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home.
but, strangely, through such 'bible reading,' they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago.
the watchtower, aug. 15, 1981.. .

In the 1980's there were private bible studies group by several individuals or families. It was considered as a preparation for book study or field service. Later that decade private studies were outlawed and people could -and were- DF for studying bible on their own. There is also a huge difference between bibblical knowledge 35 years ago and today. Many current JW can barely identify biblical stories and are suprised to find them when asked. Last summer I was visiting relatives. On the bus I read in a newspaper a interested article on Samaritan woman at the well and Jesus. One the most commonly known theme in Christianity. My relatives have WT publication scattered around the house and could recite me pretty much everything what was in them. When I brought up this topic of promiscous samaritan woman, my JW relatives who are in the "truth" for 40 years were not even aware of it. They were very suprised when I pointed out in their NWT. They were clueless. This ended any further discussion on getting returned inot the ark of Noah.

"I don't care if it's teachings are false, I'd never leave because it's the best way of life"
by 4thgen inhave you ever heard that statement?
i have heard it many times and i just don't know what to do with it.
they are chosing a to live a lie because they like the lifestyle.

I heard that several times. Many JW do not care what WT teaches and what is "Truth", or what doctrines are temporary popular, but they still think the Borg is God's channel of communication.

by JoshJeffries injosh here, new to the board.

Welcome to the board.
I left in spring of 1994, and never looked back. The WT is different cult that the one I knew from 1970's-1990's. New doctrines, nonsense explanation, white-washed past, and Armageddon delayed. I still have NWT from that time, but also bible that was in my family for generations. I heard from my relatives about NWT and they did not like it, and secrectly hold on the old book. I think it was about year or two when local KH had asked my parents to bring their old books, prints, and bible for "recycling". Hello! Since when the cult every cared about recycling.

The Czech news said that parents wanted to go for a treatment in Prague where they provide a proton beam surgery, but they do not have money for it. They have properties in Spain which they wanted to sell and use the cash for the treatment. They contacted the hospital in Prague on August 21 and have already set up appointment there. The medical facility in UK did not want them to leave the hospital and called police.
