I have very little interest in the people of the bible, but I would say that Jonah was the most natural person there. David, Solomon, Jehu, Elizeus, and other are rather unpleasant people to deal with. I would be interested to see Samson, Goliath, Judas, and all these bad dudes of the bible to see if they were really messed up.

by Dis-Member inthe society always speaks about all the wonderful people and characters in the bible.. they always too speak of many of them as being so humble, faithful, loyal, diligent, loving, kind, wise, merciful etc, and worthy of imitation.
also of how god blessed them followed by endless examples and reasons why we today should imitate them.. .
they also speak of how wonderful it would be to meet some of these people in the future 'new system' and have often depicted scenes where the the survivors of armageddon would be gathered around some ancient resurrected faithful asking them questions and listening to their stories of times past.

shunning within the family.

my first wife--born in--divorced me over 30 years ago.
she totally shuns our son--now 38--d/f'd and now happily married and enjoying life to the max.. my pioneer partner--from the mid 60's-----he totally shuns his daughter---to the point of even ignoring her in the street.. a close friend of mine--in the 60's and 70's-----i was best man at his wedding.

love2Bworldly, I have seen it happen when JW family will shun someone who never was a member of the cult and has no any knowledge nor experience with WT and their beliefs. If you ever deal with a legal matter, I would use attorney and certified letter and would not bother with any mails anymore.

My evil JW aunt shunned one of her son until she died. No contact with his children. My sibling did not talked to me for years, until a bit recently. One pioneer woman in my KH shunned her son and his school age grandchildren and would not even talk to her 6 year old grandson on the street. There are so many broken families due this horrible cult.

19 billions is spit in the pool, because EU economy is about 16 trillions. BRICS have no skills, strenght and capital to challenge USA. Russia never will have sufficient capital and economic resources to challenge EU and USA. Its economy is 15% of economy of that EU. They do not have economic potential and wealth even to be a major player on the world's economic stage and it is extremelly poorly managed country with extensive internal problems. This is issue for all Eastern Europe. After sactions and isolation, its economy will disintegrate and people will wait for basic necessities as I remember them from 1980's-1990's.

Prologos, I do not think there is whatsoever any hope for Europe and I still wonder why I still care. Would I care if my family would be still there? The war is there and is comming to every EU capital whatever they like it or not. The leadership that envisioned democratic Europe from Brest to Brest or from Atlantic to Ural is long dead. Younger generations does not care and older generation thinks that world around them will revolve along way as it did in 1980's. USA is different country than it was in 1945 and has different priority like China and Islamic terrorism. I keep telling everyone who is in Central Europe, they have the last chance to leave before the war, Putin's dictatorship, and subsequent border closure. Many Europeans desire living under Putin hand because they dislike their "decadent" western democracy. Especially the younger generation that never experienced dictatorship as I and you did and take our freedom for granted. I was in every anticommunist demonstrations in 1988 and 1989 even when I was in WT cult because I disliked communism and I believed that freedom of religion will help WT to spread the "truth". It is sad that freedom and democracy can only last one generation because each subsequent European biogenesis is totally oblivious into defending it.

I'm afraid I'd be single for life
by ohnightdivine inthis is quite embarrassing for me to share, but as a 30+ year old single female i have lingering doubts as to whether i can still meet a decent man and get married.. you all know how difficult it is for sisters to find an appropriate partner in the congregation.. and now, all the more so that i've learned ttatt.
i still am bound by low self-esteem, and i do have trust issues, especially with men.
i am very lonely and so i just keep myself busy with work to avoid depression (although it is also a great source of stress).. any other single females out there having similar thoughts?.

Generally the biology works against women. There are always more women then men. Men tends to live shorter life, dies younger, more violent deaths, have higher suicide and accident rates, and lower survival rate for almost any diseases. Add significant portion of men are gay, which takes additional quality men out of dating equation. By age 30 the surplus of women are clearly visible and put women in disadvantage position. Additionally, if person lives alone past age 30 he or she will almost never manage to have relationship as the developmental stage for creation of stable union happens around 20 to 30. I have seen this happen among both men and women and among straight and gay friends. People who never had serious relationship before age 30 would not have it at age 45. One aquitance is a woman with PhD, who dedicated her entire life to career as a scientist. She never married, has no children, and now at age 45 is considering to settle down. The train has left and no other is comming down. She will be stuck to her field, which she does excellently, but will most likely never develop any relationship.

I had read it through the course of several years. By the time I got into the end, I forgot much of it from the OT. In the 1980's we studied bible every week, we have to go through three four chapters and discuss it among us. We had only one or two WT print so bible was the only book we had access at that time. I think there is a huge difference between reading it and studying it. I read War and Peace which by itself is a huge literary work, but I do not remember much o it.

Prologos, I have left long time ago, and became a citizen of different country. I do not have whatsoever any reason nor desire to live in Europe. However, I am not oblivious to the situation there and I travel there regularly. If Russia retakes Europe, which I am betting it will, I only feel sorry for the people who desired so much to be free only to have their dream vanquished.

I wrote extensively in my undregrad and postgrad on situation in post-communist world - was active participant of the changes in 1990's - and one of my thesis was comparision of Ukraine to the war in Balkans. I am no suprised with the war, as it was expected 20 years ago. Russia is lead by madman ruling over nation that has messianic complex to control life of its neighbor. There are just too many similarities between interwar Germany and Russia, and as Hitler and Germany had its admirors, so does Russia and Putin. Russia after the collapse of the USSR got the same chance as everyone else. They could build free society as did Poland, but instead they choosed a system based on oppression. I dealt with Russians for 35+ years. While as individals are very nice people, their society demands strong hand where human life means very little. I could not imagine that Merkel would say to present European and world society that 3rd reich's defeat was the biggest mistake in history of Europe. Yet, Russian leadership said it about USSR. They do not care that for Czechoslovak, Hungarians, Yugoslavs, Baltics nations means a history of a brutal oppression and collonization. As a school boy I walked by Soviet tanks with guys pointing guns into us. We choosed to ignore it and I lived as it was a normal routine for most of the 70's. While Soviets troops disappeared from city centers and from Prague's parks, they were in the countryside driving their tank brigades. I walked by homes that were burned by 1968 gunfire and dotted by bullet holes. My father was almost killed in 1968 when he appeared at the Czechoslovak radio station to defend a freedom of speech from the invaders. Later he lost job, pension, military ranks, everything in subsequent purges in the 1970's and died as broken, impoverished man. He and my mom joined the WT cult after Prague Spring because they could not imagine any power that could defeat Warsaw Pact and Soviet Union excpet mighty God Jehovah. It is disgusting that the same fate will happen to Kiev, Riga, Tallin and Villnius and the world does not care.

Prologos, USA was the only western country that was politically supportive of the region democratic transition to extreme displesure of Germany and France. This is also reason why Rumsfeld called this block as a New Europe and these countries were the biggest supporter of USA in the past 25 years. NATO expansion happened before EU enlargement, which would never happen if these countries would be neutral. USA was considering moving its bases from Germany to east for 15-18 years, but this had not materialized to constant threat of Germany against them. Radar site outside Prague and anti-ballistic defense missile system were scrapped after Germany threatened blocking EU expansion to East in 2004. Navy base in Stettin and Constanza have not happened either. 25 years after the fall of communism no single NATO base is in former Warsaw Block. All thanks to major European powers and their power play to whom is cheap energy supply from Russia more precious than freedom and democracy in Europe. Today I am witnessing a land grab of totalitarian Russia, and disintegration of democratic principles through entire region. The Munich syndrome is alive and well through all these small countries that cannot control their destiny.
I expect Kiev to fall followed by Baltics. Where is the next target is wild guess, but Russia does not hide intention to take over entire Europe which had controlled in one point in the past 200 years. Since the time of Napoleon, every European capital east of Paris was one point occupied by Russia and every Slavic country was enslaved by it. This is also reason why Poles, Czechs, Slovenes, Croats have extreme causion to it bordering with universal dislike and rejection. As someone who remember the Soviet troops in the streets, I will never forget it until I die. And I am certainly not interested to relive it either. In Czech Republic there is saying that postwar generation was born under Moscow boot and will retire into it at the old age.

Old hippie, tell me what country in Europe did anything against Soviet oppression after 1945? I do not recall any foreigner help for Hungary or Czechoslovakia when Soviets tanks rode in the streets fo Prague and Budapest. Call for help from both national radio stations are well known and recorded, and were televized into the living rooms all over world... Please enlight me when did any European country after 1945 helped any other European country from oppression? The Eastern Block felt appart only after USA pressurred Moscow under leadership of Reagan. What did Europe did for Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo in 1990's? What I recall it was again USA that got involved to stop the war and ethnic clensing. Poor Dutch could not surrender Bosnia more quickly to Serbs. What is Europe doing today when Russia is carving Ukraine?

I do not think Germany [Western] could do anything after WWII in opposing communsim, but indeed did very little for freedom and democracy after 1970 with its Ostpolitics normalizing ties to USSR. This is much different from UK and France in the 1980's that behaved definitelly braver than Kohl. Until 1970 West Germany and Czechoslovakia did not recognized each other, so was pointless for Prague in 1968 to appeal for help there. However, in the past 25 years German politics is driven by appeasement toward Russia and currently pleasing Putin. Even American politics and press is aware of it When NATO expanded in 1999 there was big desire to move american bases into Czech Republic and Poland but it was forbidden by Germany due EU enlargement in 2004. American Republican government under Bush was aware of German-French desire to please Russia. Both European powerhouses were angry that Eastern Europe sided with Bush and USA. I only see USA as the only guaranee that Prague, Warsaw or Budapdest does not fall under Russian oppression. Germans and French would be glad to hand entire region to Moscow without hessistation. I believe Russia will take over entire Eastern Block and all countries east of Germany will be colonozied by Moscow with blessing of Berlin, Paris and Brussel.
