I'm sick of being mistaken for a prostitute!
by Aztec inthis has happened far too many times now for it to just be happenstance.
over the last year or so i've had at least 10 guys try to "pick me up" while i am out walking.
if it only happened at night it would be one thing but, it's happened early in the morning as well.

I haven't had a chance to read all the responses, but I would recommend having a "purposeful" walk when you're out. Act like you know where you're going, even if you don't. Have a good pace, and don't make any unnecessary eye contact with anyone. If someone accosts you, don't stop or slow down to let them talk to you. Pick up the pace and ignore them. If someone grabs your arm, quickly pull it away and tell the to get lost LOUDLY so others will hear. Wear shoes that will enable you to run if necessary. If you need to run, run to a building or home where it appears people are present.

Camping Fest - June 2004 - Canada

decent campgrounds fill up pretty quick, so i'd like to look into some.
i know nova scotia & ontario are many moons apart, and there was discussion of 2 separate fests.. if there are 2 separate ones, owens sound area, ontario has some pretty cool campgrounds.. who's in???

What's everyone interested in? Swimming? Fishing? Boating? Hiking - how rugged??? Rock climbing ok? We've got some nice cliffs along the Bruce trail with Koa campgrounds nearby.
Ray, you're coming even if we have to tie you up and haul you in the back of my truck! There will be suitable accomadations, don't worry about that. And lots of BEER!!!

Camping in June is fine, but the mosquitos are REALLY bad. Last year I camped near Point Pelee on Lake Erie, and they were 3/4 of an inch in length, the biggest I ever saw!!!
I'm up in Bancroft now, some in motels, and some camping. This is a great time of year for camping, hiking, and of course, beer.

A campfest is a great idea! I have literature about most ontario campgrounds at home. I'm up near Silent Lake provincial park right now, but when I get home monday I'll scan in some of the better ones and forward them to you..

In one hall I was in a MS was giving the announcements. He said something funny, i forget what, but the whole cong laughed at it. So did he, and he laughed so hard a huge wad of snot flew out of his nose and just hung there for a few seconds until he could clean it up. Everyone roared with laughter.

Before and after meetings: What was the conversational quality like?
by truthseeker ini have been in a number of different congregations over the years, and i have to say that the level of conversation i had with my fellow believers, with a few exceptions, was rather poor.. here are some 'opening' comments.. 1) nice to see you at the meeting.

can you imagine going to a company meeting and saying to your fellow worker, 'nice to see you at the meeting'?.

I found that most conversations lasted less than 3 minutes. It didn't take long before many of them didn't know what to say anymore. After the initial "hello, how are you? Nice to see you" they often begin looking around to see if they can find someone else to say these three sentences to. I could never get people to talk about their personal interests outside of JW-DOM. Either they didn't have any, or they were afraid to talk about them out of fear that they might be counselled for talking about their 'worldly' pursuits.
It's as though they have a very short attention span.
