Isn't that just what witnesses wish to do? Put on the perfect front? While secretly, they hide they're problems lest they be 'disfellowshipped'. No wonder alcohol abuse is so prevelant (sp?) in they're group.
Yes, that is a joke, Andy. Yet they don't feel ashamed that the governing body says such disturbing things.
An old friend of the family is an alcoholic. We used to get together and play cards weekly, and we'd have a beer, he'd have a pop. Although he never drank, and didn't mind us doing it, it would shock me to think that he would want us to hide all traces of alcohol in the house.

Why Would Anyone Defend Jehovah's Witnesses??????????
by minimus inevery so often, i will read on this board, how some people will defend and apologize for what jws do or believe in.....i just don't get it.

Lil ole me shooting my mouth off making false acusations, talking about things he knows nothing about .
It is amazing how people can claim JWs is a pedophile paradise that is acceptable. Claim the watchtower is playing both sides of the blood game and that is an insult to their integrity.
XQ's---how do YOU know what JWs "secretly" do? You can only surmise. Your comparison of the WTBS and JWs is like saying the KKK is different from the KKK klansmen.
Thats like asking KKK klansmen "How do you know what KKK Klansmen do in secret? You can only surmise."XQ,
One minute you're not a JW, the next you are. I would appreciate it if you would fill us all in on just what you really are here, XQ. You claim to be from Africa, is that true? What do you really know about Jehovahs Witnesses? You once claimed to be Catholic. So what is it? Perhaps I am confused; please enlighten us. If you don't then I surmise that you're just some internet weirdo playing games. I truly hope that is not the case, but I've seen far weirder things on this very forum. This is the internet, you know. Your stories are not sounding that good. Your strange posts have not gone unnoticed.
Now back to the real question: Why would someone defend them?
Because they wish to be decieved. I was one going door to door, just like all of you. Didn't it make you feel good to have the inside scoop on things? Didn't it feel good to think that maybe, just maybe you knew exactly what was going to happen in 'the world'? I defended the hell out of the doctrines. When people could not be 'convinced', then I believed that 'Satan had blinded the eyes of the unbelievers', and I had provided my 'witness'.
Looking back on it, it was terribly unchristian to treat other people that way. I remember people in car groups just laughing at people out in 'the service'. Disgusting behavior, and having a feeling of being a know-it-all is why I believe most people do it. Would Jesus have laughed at people who were in a terrible state?
They prey on low self-esteem. How can you have good self-esteem when you're being torn down every meeting, being told to do more, do more, do more? Being told that you're a horrible sinner, and (implied here) that you'd better get your ass out in service more and try to be 'perfect' because Jehovah will sift you out at Armageddon.
But these words are nothing more than apostate nonsense to them. It goes in circles. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. Simple words that answer the question. Go see the Matrix and you get a good idea of why some do not wish to leave the 'organization'.

I just cannot believe how trapped they are. I cannot believe that people listen to that sh*t and clap. So all's what we should talk about is how we came into the truth,,,, LOLOL?!
I remember one circus overbeer that said people should only get together with families and nothing else. And why do your kids have to go out every Saturday night???? Can't you just have one night out, just get together with your friends, and have one dammed laugh? See how they shame you even when you are trying to have a few hours with friends???
They are so baked. Not a stitch of common sense to question things... just listen to hours of governing blobby drivel. It just amazes me that people can listen to that stuff and say it doesn't sound like horseshat.

Anyway, LD goes into Starbucks and he orders... "Anyone of those Vanilla Bullshit drinks."
OMG! That is too funny! I haven't seen it, and our movie rental place out here sucks big time. Tonite was the corpse sniffing dog...
It doesn't suprise me that the show is not scripted. If that kind of humour is your thing, you should check out is Best In Show (low low budget and very funny,,,). It's impossible to describe, and is far beyond funny. They just got together and improvised. The hotel manager would have been me, LOL!

Did You Stay as a Witness Because You Needed a Social Life & "Friends"?
by minimus inrecently onacruse made a comment regarding why many jws remain jws.
a lot of people look at religion as a way to get together and be social with one another.
let's face it, people need "friends".

Now this is an interesting question...
I was rather suprised when I stopped going to meetings how everyone stayed friends with me. It didn't matter unless you were DF'd or DA'd. I could have done anything, really.
I still have friends to this day in 'da troof'.

Just How Serious IS Depression . . . ?
by Corvin inhow serious is depression related to your jw upbringing, association and/or disfellowshipment?
should this kind (or any other kind) of depression that lingers long after the wt smoke clears go untreated?
how have you successfully dealt with your depression?.

I joined the Jehovahs Witnesses to cure my depression. HAHAHAH! I am being serious! Thinking that 'god' was going to cure my depression with delusions of paradise earth. God doesn't change seratonin levels, no matter what religion you are. You can pray until you're blue in the face.
I just was thinking about what I posted here. Do you see the extent that someone will go to find relief?
I used to really blame myself for what happened. Now I just accept that it happened and leave it at that. Now I'm free from guilt from my past 'sins' so to speak. I try to look to my future.
It's nowhere as easy for those who were brought up in this religion to do this, and my post is not meant to belittle what you have all gone and still go through. Really, I'm still learning as are we all. What they did to you growing up in this group is disgusting. I know the shame that they heaped on you. They heaped it on me for the 5 or so years I was a dub, and know the feeling to that extent.

A person can be under so much stress that their brain will not , for whatever reason, produce enough serotonin and then the depression sits in. Then it is a visous cycle.
You are probably right to some extent. Really, the important thing is that you're getting help.

Man oh man, when I went on AD's, I saw right through the bullshit and why I was feeling so bad after meetings; because it was hammered into my head that anything that was wrong with me, or with people in the congregation (they were like serpents) was MY fault! Everything was my fault, and I just had to 'lean on jehovah' to cure it.
I went against they're advice and seeked medical help. I have never regretted it one bit! I'm glad to see that others are doing well now too.
I guess that's why I chose the name Shamus. That and it sounded like a cool scottish name....
