It's basically an over-priced vacation for rich foreign loyalists to enjoy and brag about attending. The experience is highlighted by the "It's a Small World"-like atmosphere and random appearances by cherised members of the GB.

International Conventions for 2014 - Landover, MD - What is an International Convention?
by insearchoftruth inhave been out of touch for a while, i see that there is an 'international' convention this year in landover, md (fed ex field) and there are no english conventions in either richmond or hampton, va. what is an 'international convention', is it merely a consolidation of all the other conventions meant to whip up some fervor amongst the masses?.

I knew a man who converted to Mormonism and the Church helped pay his way through college (two year degree)! They also helped him with groceries (food bank) for his rather large family. Now he is established in a good career and faithfully tithes his fair share which is 10% of his income. Go figure, WT will never have that arrangement.

Wrong, they easily get around that by claiming that their massive building projects "may well continue right up through the GT and into the New World".

Why JW assemblies NEED to change
by kneehighmiah inthe assemblies would be get better results and get more people to come and be inspired if they were more encouraging.
instead the assemblies are a giant guilt trip.
don't go to college, don't get a good job, dont buy things even if you can afford them, don't play violent games, don't flirt.

Captain Schmideo, that's a cool skill to have as a convention-going JW. I've witnessed many a head-bobbling convention "delegates" (hate the use of that word by WT), especially during the boring afternoon symposiums (yea another hated JWism, should be called snoriums).

I think my D.O. Is a closet apostate. References Stanford Prison Study and hints he sometimes disagrees with the Branch
by kneehighmiah ini find it odd that the district overseer today made.
1. zero yes 0 references to the fds in any of his talks.. 2.he also told elders that the brothers worship god and not them.so therefore the elders have no authority to order the friends around.. 3. he also talked about the stanford prison study and said that people who receive authority over others often abuse it.
4. he mentioned that when he disagrees with the branch (aka the fds) he's learned to just do what they say.

That's encouraging, but I would bet a dollar to a Watchtower that he won't give up the free apartment, leased Buick Lucerne, health insurance, airline miles, business suits, meals, green handshakes, travel opportunities because the BOEs are "unapproachable".

Good question, it's sort of like the blood fractions dilema. If it's permitted to accept certain blood fractions, then why is it unacceptable to donate blood to provide spmeone with those same fractions? It doesn't add up.

Please, take Smiddy's advice as I could not have said it any better. I can relate to your situation in that my wife did not want to hear anything critical about WT...until now. She had to experience the lack of love and genuine love first-hand for her to see the contradictions. I suppose bottom line is be patient, you love this woman, love her enough to help her see WT for what it is.

WTs on the car dashboard kinda like Catholics who place "Sacred Heart of Jesus" auto air fresheners on their rear-view mirrors.

Blondie, Watchtowers on the dash board-yes that's a dead give-away as a JW. I always wondered about that one, is that supposed to be like a talisman or do they think that the magazine will draw a potential sheep to inquire about their own faith?

2 teenage couples in a car is normally a double date and tons of fun. 2 teenage couples in the same vehicle not having fun is a JW "car group". Yep, totally JW.
