in a "next-issu"e-box i noticed that one of the july/august-issues contains an article about having a "waiting attitude".
does anyone already have the issue and could post the article here?
i think these kind of articles that try to explain the delay of the end are always a good read.
In public talks they are fond of saying that the stage of this sytem we are at is comparable to sitting in the dark cinema with our popcorn and ice-cream and the show is just about to start and we're just waiting for the curtains to rise...any second now....
It feels like I've been sitting in the cinema for hours and hours and I have a funny feeling I've got the day and time wrong for this movie....
for the past few years the questions from readers in the wt have been pathetic rehashes of old material, or just stupid newbie quetions answered in the pe book.
i know that they must be getting thouands of well thought out questions from sincere readers, yet none of these questions make the column.
i know that this is not surprising to many here.
I wrote to the Society once querying a cross-reference to some scriptures which didn't seem to line-up (a trifling thing really), and got a satisfactory reply.
I also wrote in the late 1990's trying to get clarification on the 'new light' on the 'this generation will by no means pass away', and was ignored. I guess they were inundated with letters about this.
Needless to say I still don't accept this 'new light'.
brothers (and sisters)
now, as you know, i have been doing some independent study into the book of ezekiel for some weeks now and, to be truthful, ive developed a couple of problems.
perhaps someone could clear these things up for me.
I researched this also a few years back after reading a book called 'Signs of the Times' by some writer called Proctor (from New Zealand). He had another book before this, the title of which eludes me (something like 'Gods plan of the ages'). He had a rather fascinating interpretation of these verses, something along the lines -
390 days + 40 days = 430 days. 430 days - (minus) 70 years (Jews in Babylonish exile) = 360 days. 360 days = 360 years (a day for a year) x 7 times (some scriptures in Genesis about increasing their affliction 7 times if don't return to God) = 2520 years (similar to JW's). He calculated the start of this period from 587 BCE (destruction of Jerusalem by Babylonian world power), and then added the extra 70 years, and arrived at 2005 for when Christ returns to Kingly power (a couple of years were added somehow...can't remember). So he says the period is 2590 years, not 2520, as JW's and some other groups believe. I'd recommend you purchase his book...very fascinating research on chronology and time-keys in the bible.
My understanding is that the WBTS currently interpret the 390 and 40 day time periods in Ezekiel to mean nothing more than a retrospective marking off of years from the destruction of Jerusalem back to the split of the 10 tribe kingdom, or something like that. They no longer assign it to have any prophetic meaning.
1 corinthians 15: 15 says "morever, we are also found false witnesses of god, because we have borne witness against god that he raised up the christ, but whom he did not raise up if the dead are really not to be raised up.".
jw's are guilty of being false witnesses to god in a similar manner as paul states above, because of their insistence that jesus was enthroned as king in heaven in 1914. they need to ditch this unconvincing teaching propped up by it's dodgy chronology.
it's high time to realise that there was no invisible 'parousia' that started in that year, and that christ's parousia is still a future event, to commence when he sits on his white horse and goes into battle at armageddon..
So Francois, if you no longer believe in Armageddon or Jesus returning on a 'white horse' as Revelation plainly states, then it seems you really no longer believe in the bible?
So what do you believe in Francois? Where does that leave you?
Are you really an ex-JW? Or a lurking quasi atheist?

consider the typical character of witness life: "spirituality" as a word is twisted and misapplied into a sterile life of dead.
meeting attendance and peddling magazines - instead of emphasizing active compassion and ethical qualities.
this tendency.
Enjoyed reading that post immensely - however, evolution IS false, and sooner or later God's will on this earth WILL be done, and that means paradise restored. I have no bug with that. Just because I'm no longer a dub don't mean I reject all their teachings.

what do "many lands" have to do with this one land, the "land of decoration?
but who is he, that is the "king of the north?
Do you have to resort to foul language Francois! We like to think most of us are still christians here.
If you ever were a JW, the vacuum left behind in your life certainly hasn't been filled with anything christian like since has it!

how can the wts consider an unmarried man in his mid-twenties qualified to be an elder?
clearly the "theocratic" process of election by the holy spirit is not what's happening.
ever known any (too) young elders?
yea I used to resent having to listen to some pimply 24 year old nerd ministerial servant giving main meeting parts, or just slightly older cocky pet elders. Everyone congo seems to have one, the perfect little role model young up and coming male MS/elder and/or ministerial servants school graduate.
They are about as 'elder' like as pioneers are 'FULL TIME ministers'.
do you think that the average elder, ms, pioneer or publisher is different in attitude today?
would the witness of 10 or 20 years ago, have the same way of thinking as today's jw's?
I echo wannaexit's thoughts. Most seem to be more or less going through the motions. Many had the wind taken out of their sails with the 'new light' on the 'this generation' matter, and are secretly wondering why the system's dragging on so long. A growing number are losing their sense of urgency accordingly, interspersed with the odd moment of excitement created by international troubles and world developments that they imagine might signal that the end is close.
There are more and more who just drag their bodies to the meetings and sit their like lumps, with their spaced out far away expressions. Heck, having to endure all those meetings year after year, the same format over and over, would be enough to make someone become a zombie anyway. How can u keep any kind of genuine enthusiasm up, unless convinced in one's own mind that the end is 'just around the corner' like it has been for the past 100 years.
