i will get around to telling you my story as soon as i figure out where to post it!.
i was a witness for 19 years (i left/df'd when i was 19) and was always told that i wasn't allowed to participate in after school sports because it was getting involved in competition which is frowned upon.
so how come it's ok for the williams sisters to play professional tennis, have a career, earn loadsa money and wear totally immodest short skirts which show their knickers shock horror!!

The Williams sisters are not baptized. So they are free to do a lot of questionable stuff. Their parents just divorced this month. Don't know if it was "scriptual" or not. Daddy never was, Momma was/is.

Oh yes the old "wait on Jehovah" line. Because we RAN ahead of the Almighty Borg and did not wait on it to make the changes we saw needed to be made we are looked at as members of the Uzzah class.
Wasn't Uzzah's greater sin the silent going along with the company men? He knew the rule of transport for the Ark. He chose to keep his mouth shut and then when disaster happened, something he might have thought about before hand, he tried to save the day.
I would also prefer to be a Nathan. The only thing is the members of the King David class are not so reasonable. How many Nathans will have to confront the David's before something is done?

from the back of the 8/7/2003 awake!
so, who is this erik haaest, what is he an author of, and why would the 'tower flog the recommendation of a wordly author so enthusiastically?
can any of our european friends enlighten us?
And deduct the copies that are a "must" for all the unbaptized children. Adding to the artwork in these precious publications kept my young ones occupied at many a meeting.
So who are the two people who receive the magazines? The pervert author and his wife?

or can they keep it going another 100 years.. maybe i'm being a little too hopeful, but i think the next 10 years are do or die for the watchtower.. is was different back in the 20's 30's 40's 50's and 60's, they could get away with changing doctrine and "new light" and new ideas.. but today, people are different and more independent, and question things a lot more.. the "annoited class" is almost gone, regardless of the bs figures they give, .
1914 is all but dead, .
literature is not available like it used to be, .

a continuing pretense, with adults collectively pretending that it's real.
There can be no reform. Everyone involved is walking around brain dead. When one of them wakes up to reality they leave. The force that pushed the WT to where it is today is dead. It is like a car that you push, it will continue to roll after you stop pushing, but it will eventually need another push. The glory days of the WT are gone. The publications are a rehash of old publications, except for the Isaiah trash. Even those are a compilation of older WT articles put into one book. No new light there. There are no active brain cells to generate reform.

Thank you Allymom. First for the K.I.S.S. approach for us chronologically challenged. and for doing the research beforehand so that we are not swept away by pseudo-scholors who attempt to confuse the facts with BS.

it seems to me that they are holding fast to their legalistic views.
what will the result of this be?
i think that the result will be a more closed society.

more prone to suicide as time goes on.
That is the one creepy feeling I had begun to have a year before I left. I would read the "all hail to the almighty organization" lines in the magazines and have a fleeting thought of Kool-Aid. I pushed it out of my mind each time but it was disturbing nonetheless. What would it take for the GB to all take the Kool-Aid? Does the WT have enough mind control over the R & F to make them drink up too?

how many of you, like me, want answers to biblical questions but get overwhelmed by all the information to research?
the task seems so daunting that i just tend to say i'll read the cliff notes in someone's post and make my decision based on that.
i know i'm falling into the same trap that i fell into with the wbts but i guess i'm a follower and so many of you seem to have such a better handle on all this biblical stuff.
free will, you are not alone. It is a huge hurdle to get over alone. I left last year. I joined the WT for spiritual reasons. My faith in God has not waivered, only my faith in man to explain God. I am ashamed that I stopped doing my own research when I relaxed and let the WTS do the driving of my faith.
I was obsessed for about 6 months to find the answers to the gaping holes in my knowledge of the Bible. I collected information from this and three other forums. I printed out reams of debates, exegisis, rantings, etc. I put them in three ring notebooks divided by subject. Then I took time to read them carefully and did background research. I compared each persons ideas with the others until I could form an idea of my own that fit what I found.
Today I am content with what I believe. It does not have to match anyone else's ideas. I no longer feel compelled to believe exactly like this or that group. I no longer feel compelled to join any church.
I am no longer obsessed with knowing everything there is to know about the Bible or to nail down absolute truth. I have come to the conclusion that since I am so far removed from the language and culture of the Bible writers and I have no clue as to the accuracy of those writings or whether the collectors of those writings included the best possible books or if they threw away portions or changed portions to suit their belief systems: it is just not worth obsessing over the details.
Give it time Free Will. You too will develop a belief system that works for you. Don't worry about the fate of the Universe. You did not wind the key that set it into motion, you can not alter the course of even one planet. And you can not alter the course of history or the future. You can be the best Free Will possible and IMHO that is good enough.

hallo everyone.
the earlier thread about the min school reminded me of the number of times that i researched and at least partly put together items and pub talks for 'he must be obeyed'.. this was necessary because he worked full time in a demanding job which left very little leeway for cobbling the many assignments together.
at first being a good dub wife i felt guilty at doing this but in talking to others whose husbands also worked full time and were not part time cleaners or window cleaners i found that several other elders wives had always done this.. not only the talks but also sorting out the school assigments, the schedules, field service arrangements, sorting the auditing, coach and accomodation for the dc and ca, checking the accounts etc.. lots of these sisters also helped their children put together their items.. rather makes a mockery of the male privilege of "taking the lead".. most elders and ms are unable to cope with all the pressures and work if their wives dont do most for them.
When my son confided in an elder that he was feeling guilty for having his wife help him write his ministry school talks he was told that not only did that particular elder's wife help him write talks he named three other elders whos wives did the same.
On the other note. The elders of my last congregation are all financially well off. One attended Juliard and plays in a well known orchestra. One is a business executive. One is retired from a high ranking position with the electric company. No slackers here.

howcome the wts does not include personal testimonies in their meetings (i mean, ones that have not been edited by the writing department)?
oftentimes when i am preparing for an instructional course, i go looking for a sample completed form.
in order that my students are not led astray, i try and find the perfect sample.
Paranoia was setting in then..........can't imagine how scripted everything must be nowadays.Danny
Along with the manuscripts for convention talks there is another recent curtailment for the sisters at the ministry school. You can't have them thinking too much can you? We used to be allowed to make up a scenerio for our part. Not any more. Now we get to use a canned scene. We take the prescribed subject and make it fit the pre packaged script. Can you say zombie?
