I find it amazing how many people talk about Nationalism, which is bad, when so many of the posts I read are about patriotism, which is good. There is a difference.

One thing that is so overlooked is this very thread. I challenge anyone to post something like this in China. Freedom of speech is not allowed. Islamic supporters talk about America's lack of support towards Islamic rule. It is dismissed as evil. Even when elections are held they are not respected by the West. The reason is the complete void of freedom of relgion. That is a vital thread to a true democracy. IMO until there is much more freedom for all people respect is not something that they deserve. So many here are comming from a desired Theocracy I am chilled at the support for such oppression. I think that Islamic rule shows what it would be like with JW power in charge of the military. And, if they could enforce public policy pacifism would be past tense.

True, Americans are patriots for the most part. I am proud to be one.

No, America is not the only Country worth being full of pride towards there are others. In fact where ever you are born you are going to have a passion towards, it is your homeland. America is so often snubed by snobs and I say so what.

I read all the time in the paper now where the bad US has bombed here and there in the past and that is true. But there were other Countries involved. The world is a dangerous place and I for one am glad to be right were I am.

3 out of 4 Americans currently support the actions towards Iraq. And Iraqians in the end will be better off than they are now.

The UN is currently in agreement with the Iraq issue. Support and opinion; That was the big issue first American support, Bush got it. Then it was congress, they have his back. Then the UN, and the vote was 15 to 0. That one made history I beleive. Now it is the public opinion inclusive to whole world. What will be next a poll of how the average Iraqian soldier. Or maybe we should give Sadameds word some real weight. I remeber that fool from Washingtion State going to Iraq and saying IMO "Take Sadam at his word and to not trust Bush." What a dork.

Wait I got it let the brilliant ones at the WT Headquarters figure out what to do. Ya that is what I need, to go to a KH for that lesson in history. They have that history thing down to a science.

dating an exjw

i have been dating an exjw for a while now (  he is a poster here, zanex) just lookin for any advice anyone might have.

i am a non-jw and the only thing that i know about jws are what he has told me and it is not a pretty picture.

he mentioned this board to me a while back so i thought i would check it out.

I am like you a never been JW. My wife was the one raise in it. She left it when she was 18. Her stepfather, mother and 2 of her 1/2 sisters are to put it bluntly, dead to us now. She has quite a family outside the cult but they have always been kept from her and the jw's lied about how horrible I am as well as their daughter. It is so hard to connect with her family so we have a long distant relationship.

You are not right about the jw'ness not leaving a person, it can. I would have said the same thing a year ago. But, I can say that it is in fact gone from my wife. (I AM SO HAPPY!) I really think that when she saw how petty her family is in action to me she lost all respect for them. She saw how hateful they are to me, not just to her. It is one thing when jw's are mean to the one that is shunned. That shunned one has been conditioned to accept that kind of behavior as normal. When it spills over to people that they love and that have no reason to be hated, exjw's realize that this cannot be accepted and they are free in mind. They no longer accept hate as love. The best thing that I ever did was set clear boundaries with the cult. Over time when we had our first baby the jw's became our new best friend. They just slipped into our lives and slowly blurred those boundaries. When they (boundaries) went back up this year I was threatened, screamed at, and called every name in the book. They looked me right in the eye and lied to my face. They lied about me, about my wife, and even lied to my children about us. They are sick people.

I have heard here that 30 is an age that people cut ties. The reason IMO is babies become children. We see ourselves and we have an opportunity to shield them from what we endure. We break the cycle of abuse. Yes, the prophesy scares are still there but they are no longer all there is to life. I have a little boy and a little girl. I swear that my kids are like little angels. They are all the hope I need to have faith that everything is going to be OK. Even animals protect their young from danger. And the Jehovah Witnesses are dangerous.

I would recommend that you study the principles of brainwashing, propaganda, and mind control. Even a relationship can be a "cult" relationship. Learning how and why some people are compelled to control will benefit you in every aspect of your life. You can learn how and why the need for control is self defeating when it is projected to others. The key is to turn that yearning for power inward, use it to understand what you need, want, and who you are.

There are so few JW's and their doctrine is ludicrous that they alone are not perceived as a great threat to the general public. But all controling "cult" groups and authoritarian groups are. It might be worth your time.

His "way" of life works.

Jesus was before Christianity dogmatized and sterilized this philosophy of living.

One problem I run into is "Jesus" the man of History and the Christ Prophet; and that myth story.

Christ is my friend and I believe he is what we have the potential to be like.

i've been hearing a big uproar in the media about schools banning harry potter books, and parents who refuse to let their kids read it, etc.

what's the big deal?!

when i was growing up, we had bewitched, i dream of jeannie, casper, etc.

It all has to do with a lack of sex. These guys can't get any and by gawd no one else is going to have any fun either.

We took my child to # 1 and we will #2 as well. Even my parents are reading Potter. And LOTR is a thumbs up. People need to drink more and bitch less. Oh ya AND HAVE SEX.

Am I going to hell? If so I will be in good company...And I have fun now.

When you have the responsibility of as many lives he does then maybe I will give your opinions some thought. (not) You believe that we are headed for a police state? just think of the fact that 50% of clinton's staff were jews...kind of gives the reason away why the US supports israel despite the screaming human rights violations committed there.

Can you back this up with any credible facts? Whom are you refering to in the "jew staff" that have the power to influence Presidental, International, and Congressional policy? It just kinda reminds the of the "Satan is in control" when I hear how the "Jews" have so much power in world events.

Do you have any facts on Arab programs to help the Isr/Pal conflict. Any Arab led aid work to give the people anything better to do than blow themselves up for money and marterdom?

People should be concerned if they or someone else is overweight. Being obese can kill you. (And that is not a good thing.) Do you think that depression plays a factor in being overweight? I do. And denial when you are addicted to food. The diets that do not include a life style change will fail. I think that so many people don't know what they want, they do not know how to be content with themselves much less how to be happy. This leads to state of being uncontent/loathing, and apathy about themselves. Food for that few minutes fills the void. You do have control over what goes in your mouth. And as strange as that seems that control is some power and I can sure see where a JW would/could turn to food for some comfort; Not that I know if there is a greater obese factor there than mainstream. I think everyone battles with themselves for self control. Most people just do not have the (elder/wt) bogus god factor.

one reason i pop on and off the internet is i trade and invest on ameritrade.

I know that the word "stock" is currently a 4 letter word but any others out there? I am not a daytrader by definition (yet) but I might do it next year as a hobby/business. I love the market. I think its a fun challenge. Any others? What are the rules for daytrading on the European market?

shunners in hospital

what noidea is going thru got me to thinking what i'd do if one of my family members who shuns me, that's most of them, were really sick and in the hospital.

several years ago my daughter was really sick and in the hospital.

i didn't go see her and i've often wondered whether i did the right thing.

You are wise.

Kindness is better for the heart. But with the Jehovah Witnesses kindness is often irrelevant. So it is the ex Jw that matters. Do what you want to do. Do what will help you to live with your actions. The worst thing to do is to let them have any power over you. If any elder ever gets in my way again they had best get a bed for him too. Any jw family same game. I will respect them, I don't need to ever see anyone again; Alive or Dead. I have seen/delt with them enough for a life time. But if it was my child, I would go. Always. If it was my mother or father, I would go. My wife has said that if she is hurt to call her JW family so I will, for her, not for them, and not for me, for her. Shunning is for cowards.
