It never surprises me that different people perceive the same thing differently. Just as it never surprises me that majorities struggle to understand minorities's perspectives. Such is life.

Shooting in the foot (homophobic video)
by Syme inwith the newly released homophobic video by the wts, it gets clearer that those people can't stop shooting themselves in the foot.
they are already under examination and de facto trial by the australian committee; more and more people and officials in western democracies inquire into their abusive tactics and put them under the microscope, and what do they do?
they release a video which confirms those worries.

Being a young gay JW it didn't feel like merely like "disapproval". After hearing about someone being dfed for homosexuality my mother said she would rather her child was dead than a homosexual.
These seemingly innocuous cartoons will feed the mindset that permits parents to say these things, after all a dead child gets resurrected.
And I think that some of the JWs will be affected by the adverse publicity. My good friend eventually left the JWs because she couldn't stand the way her gay sibling and I were treated.

I was in Edinburgh yesterday. Thought you had gone AWOL from the forum.
I'm not the most frequent poster but the gay threads always warm my heart. Too bad this thread wasn't a day earlier, maybe another time.

Is it saying gay people are like bombs? Or maybe we're just like a large can of shaving gel? -

Scotland also has the "world's gayest parliament". I'm sure there's no correlation. -

Did I imagine a brief thaw in the Watchtower injunction against going to university?
by slimboyfat inokay i was talking to an elder and he said me going to university was a bad idea and i should have listened to the society and not gone.
but i said that when i went to university the watchtower was saying it might not be a bad idea to go to, as long as you do it for the "right reasons", don't associate with worldly people, and keep clear of "damaging ideas".
but basically they said it was okay, in this "changing world" and job market to go to university.

I became an elder the same month I started a 4 year liberal arts degree in 1999 and I learned that the CO, Ian Shanks, told the elders that they could not use my choice to go to university as a reason not to appoint me.

How to defeat JWs in 10 easy steps
by slimboyfat inhave you heard of ryan cragun's book how to defeat religion in 10 easy steps?
http://www.amazon.com/how-defeat-religion-easy-steps/dp/1634310128/ref=cm_cr_pr_bdcrb_top?ie=utf8.
cragun is a sociologist and an ex-mormon who thought it would be fun to take what he'd learnt about religious decline from sociology and see if he could apply it as a number of proactive steps to undermine religion.

scotsman I would consider reducing the spread and influence of JWs a worthy goal. I haven't always been of that opinion, but I'm coming to that view.
if it was extensive and increasing I might agree. Attempting to assist close family to make an exit is one thing but attempting to defeat JWs is a waste of time imo.
But I also recognise that it can be stage that many of us have experienced and its part of the process of disengagement (honestly not meant to sound patronising!).

11. Do not try to defeat Jehovah's Witnesses there are more achievable and worthwhile things to do.
