What percentage of the population are gay?
by fulltimestudent induring the long debate on the question of gay marriage, there have been many competing answers to the question of, "how many people are gay?".
a very anti-gay christian minister in sydney, the reverend fred nile, (who is also a member of the state parliament) claims that the percentage is as low as 1%.. some university (u.of new south wales) research in sydney has suggested 5%, but the authors of the study cautioned that there was a problem in the fact that an unknown number of respondents would likely not admit to being gay.. there are other problems in asking the question.
for example, what does being gay mean?

A question that's curiously of interest to 95-99% of people. -

JW going to prestigious university
by ivanatahan ini've been debating this, and my mother (the spiritual head of my family, she even controls my father spiritually, who is an elder) doesn't seem to be starkly against me going to a prestigious university.
in fact, i've been going over my chances, and i'd say i have a pretty decent chance of going to my dream university, oxford university, to study philosophy, politics, and economics.
naturally i wouldn't tell my mother about me wanting to take the three most hated subjects of jws at a university that would bring me into bad relations with "spiritually sound jws".. do you guys know any ex-jw or knowledgeable jw who knows ttatt that went to a randall group or ivy league school?

You mean a Russell Group Uni? I did. I was made an elder and started at Edinburgh Uni in the same month, 8 months later I'd resigned as an elder and quit meetings.
I'd highly recommend it.

Scottish independance in two days what do you think?
by barry inone thing i would like to say is will the union jack be changed because the scottish flag is incorpreted in it.
if the union jack is changed will we change our australian flag because the union jack is in our flag?
even hawawi has the union jack also fiji and many other commonwealth countries.. .

i understand your perspective Qcmbr but also understand why you can't understand a different narrative. Constitutional change lead by a Conservative Party with UKIP breathing down its neck is going to lead to a rocky road ahead, better buckle up!

The referendum didn't break the Union but it's clearly cracked. And curiously it appears that some English MPs are choosing to widen that crack.

Do you know where to find them? Both exits from Waverley Station, the north east corner of St Andrew Sq and sometimes Middle Meadow Walk. Have fun!

by Comatose inso i was df'd a couple weeks ago.

I'd agree that a good relationship with grandparents can be good for kids but a highly conditional relationship with grandparents who shun a parent doesn't sound... healthy. If you are going to police their relationship that is going to have a toll on you and you're well being as a parent is far more important than a relationship with grandparents.
half my grandparents died before I was born, it did me no damage: it's great for grandparents to see their grandchildren but I'm not convinced it's as important the other way (apologies for offending grandparents!).
Good luck navigating this, it's not easy, but look out for yourself.

Can I ask why you think the relationship between your daughter and her grandparents is so important?

Ha, ohiocowboy, my partner and I have been together 12 yrs this week too! Congratulations.
88JM I had an angry phase but it had to pass for the JWs to have been part of my life without defining my life. Lost my family and lifetime of friends but I'd do it all again just a bit earlier.
