ISTKHThe one thing I do admire about the LDS is their openness about the issues they are facing. Although I have no proof I would say the attendance figures for JWs would closely align with the LDS. I know when used to do the count at the meetings there we're always a lot away and very rearly did we ever get the total amount of publishers at any one meeting. On the weekends for the Sunday meeting it would be fair to say where were all the young ones. I honestly believe if watchtower was wanting to reach the masses they have to start letting their member set up independent web sites and they have to make better use of social net working. For instance would you buy a car if the car dealer told you not to look on the Internet, because of all the lies from angry ex car owners. Would you also buy that car if all the reviews on that car were overwhelmingly bad, other than the offical manufacturers web site. My argument is if you wouldn't buy a car like that then don't expect someone to choose a religion like that.

Preaching is a waste of time
by konceptual99 inbefore anyone gives me the "bears/wood" similarities, this is a post based on insidethekh's reply on the mormon v jw thread.
(http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/287545/1/who-is-copying-who-jws-or-mormons) i like to see wt friendly posts on here as some of the wt bashing displays the same logical fallacies as levelled against the wts and it's followers so it's good to consider reasoned debate.. on the one hand i think itkh makes a fair point if you compare the worldwide success of mormons v jws but there is an overall context to the preaching work that is completely ignored by those fully "in" and has been a major factor in my move from being an active witness to one on the cusp of getting out.
from a statistical point of view there are great headline numbers presented by the wts but if you put them in the context of the number of witnesses, conversation ratios, ratio of new witnesses to birth rates, numbers that must be leaving, growth differentials across the globe, penetration in muslim nations and so on then these numbers become meaningless.

Just another off topic point. Its amazing how two religions can be so theologically different and yet structurally and organizationally Exactly the same.

May be this is a bit off topic, but I thought the JWs had some pretty far out and fanciful ideas. But man!! They are nothing concerning all the BS and scandal that surrounds the mormon church. You will also find that the mormon church is currently having the same problem as the JW regarding members walking out due to information on the Internet.

i have a theory about the long term doctrine of wt!
by purrpurr ini can see no reason why the gb would want to loosen their grip on their cash cow/ cushy life.
but what will they do in 20,30,50 years?
well i suspect that at some point they will claim that the promised paradise is already here but that it has come in spirtual form.

I think they will eventually be forced to drop the 144k and 1914. Just how the will spin it and what the effects will be I guess time will tell

Yup I know of a jw who came out of Mormonism. But he did make the comment the only reason he went to the mormon church was for the sport.
