When I was really young, I went to sleep. When that was no longer acceptable, I drew pictures and filled in the letters. I really enjoyed adding beards and mustaches to the pictures in the magazines. Sometimes I would comment on a question, so that my mom would stop telling me to pay attention. When I was a teenager, I was looking for cute sisters and hoping for some cleavage of perhaps a silhouettes of their body as they walked by. What can I say, I was a horney teenager.

As a kid how did you survive the meetings?
by Parousia inrecently my brother, sister, and i talked for the first time about how we survived the meetings when we were kids.
i loved hearing their stories.. i had a whole imaginary world i went into.
once the songs were over and the talk started, i would focus on the speaker to look like i was listening and then zone out.

Would you ban the Witnesses?
by Joker10 inif it were up to you, would you ban the jw's?
would you go that far?
-
whyhideit
Never!!! If we start banning one religion, then what is next. Never get the false impression that Witnesses are the most harmful religion out there. They are just the one we know the most about, on a personal level. Religious freedom is a two-edge sword.

With the recent tragedy, I have been reminded of something that I think is getting out of control. That is the news overkill of subjects. I do not want to sound heartless, but I did not sit and watch the news for hours when I heard the Columbia burned up. I watched for awhile, heard the facts, saw some footage and then went on with life. Hours later, and even a day later, that is all the news channels are talking about still. They have one feature on the disaster, followed by a feature on NASA's future, then another on the families and so on and so forth. They pull people off the street who Witnessed hardly anything, and seem proud of the term EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW. I am sick of it all, I am sick of the overdone coverage. Maybe it is a form of burn out that started after 9/11. I just want to be able to hear the points, get the story and not get the impression that the news people are out for ratings. Ratings from covering other people's pain. It is just getting so over done. Am I alone in feeling this way?

If the Society changed the rules about .....
by roybatty inspeaking with those who are df'd or da'd would you, could you, begin associating with your jw family and friends?
not that i believe they will, but i was thinking "what if" they did.
i wonder if one's jw family realizes how much damage is done to a relationship when they choose their "religion" over their family?

If anything, they are reminding people to stay apart. I believe they had a reminder article in the August 2002 KM, mentioning the need to stay away from those that are DF'ed or DA'ed. In December the elders even started visiting the inactive to see if they could DA'ed them, as well. Obviously, because this is a gray area many apostates are taking advantage of to get Witness relatives the real truth.

Are ALL criticisms of the Society justified?
by logansrun inlet me start by saying that i deplore much of the teachings of the watchtower and am convinced that it is not "the truth.
" either through ignorance, error or deliberate action they have caused great heartache for thousands and unknown heartache for millions.
i have thoroughly disconnected myself from their teachings and would rightly speak out against what i know to be harmful in that organization.

They are not all bad. If they were, they would not have any followers. They have just enough good to keep people distracted enough to not all run away.

When does religion become myth?
by whyhideit inin my time in school and college, i always enjoyed the study of ancient greek, roman, chinese, and native american myth.
yet at the same time we have beliefs in modern religions, such as christianity, that there is a heaven with jesus christ, jehovah, angels, the devil, and demons.
1500 years from now, will jesus christ be a myth.

This is a good link on the Jesus Myth and how it was taken from many other cultures.

Kungfu
I have some information on what you mentioned in the PS, and I will post it at another time. There is a ton of similarities!!! You can go even further back then that though, with the Samaritans. Samaritan myths and concepts are in all modern religions.

Gopher,
Myth seems to separate modern religion. In that, I mean that most religions would agree on this one principle.
"Do onto others has you would have done onto you ... Love your neighbor as you would love yourself."
Most major religions would accept the above statement to being something others should do and follow. The conflict arise from Mythology of religion. They add legends, gods, stories and other tools of religion. All of which erode the above principle and give rise to borders and hatred among separate religions. Stevie Wonder was right
When you believe in things you don't understand, superstition is at hand
John Lennon was also right
All you need is love

How Honest Are You To Yourself?
by Guest 77 ini have gone through life meeting many people and i have learned a great deal from listening and watching such people.
right now, i'm hooked up with a political acquaintance due to his knowledge and experience in this field but he has this bad habit of streching the truth.
he mixes half thruths with full truths.

I think the better question would be, "how honest are we with others?" For we all know the truth inside of us, it is the level at which we let it guide us, that makes our world what it is. As an example, when I was a Witness, the last two years I did not believe a word of it. Yet I was still going to meeting, doing parts and field service. I knew inside what I was, it was the outside that I feared. I once heard it said, that to truly find the honesty of another human is to find argument. Meaning, when you get to the part that is to true and to hard to handle, the other person will deny and argue to keep that personal information inside. Basically, you hit the nail right on the head and they are not ready to drive it through yet. I think it is healthy to find those limits in ourselves, and healthy to find them in others, as it helps to drive us to being more of what we know we are and less fake or "playing at life." To add, no one or anything is really real. Everything is just the illusion you accept it to be.
