Good title, 'Congregation Contradictions'. The two quotes you use certainly seem contradictory. Good post Undis.

Stinky, even though your mom and dad have not been much a part of your life recently, it obviously hurts to have them say what they said and all. I'm very sorry, and I hope one day they will relent.

WT allows investing in Stock Market
by DevonMcBride ini don't know if this was brought up before but it looks like the watchtower doesn't consider investing in the stock market as gambling.
i guess since they got caught investing in it, they had to come up with new light.

Ed, I agree and have always wondered why the WTS charged interest to their own "brothers".

What all this indicates to me is that, once again (because I just said this a couple days ago on another thread) the Bible can be interpreted in many different ways.

All of Lisa's faults! (And all of yours, too!)
by LDH inwell i got the impression from teejay that i can come across as supercilious; that i don't think i have any faults.
so for the sake of posterity, i am herewithin listing all of my faults (that i know about, lol).i frequently don't explain my thoughts thoroughly; i'm in a rush and just try to write down what i'm thinking at the moment.
this leads to unclear reasoning when others read my words; on more than one occasion, i'll admit.i'm too quick with the sarcasm.

One correction to my post above....I should have said that I am not a very romantic husband. I am not really "inattentive" but I don't do enough in the area of romance.

Birthdays - I may need some input
by rocketman inwe had a birthday "party" for my daughter at a local restaurant today, with a group of her friends invited.
we are "inactive" but i still attend some meetings.
i do not comment or want any 'privilages'.. anyway, one person whom my daughter invited is a jw, though she has said that she may want to get out soon.

Thank you for the comments. Yes, I do have family "in" so I am somewhat concerned. Cruzanheart, I am hoping that the same thing happens here - that no one takes the info any further. And one thing that works to my advantage is that the girls who know are in a congregation that I left about 3 years ago. So hopefully, the gossip will not cross congregation lines.

Okay, I will git wit dit thread, because it is fascinating:
Faults:
I tend to pest my daughter
I soemtimes talk in a little kiddie type of voice that my wife hates
I get discouraged easily
I don't take criticism well intially, from people in authority (I hated it from elders, even when I was one)
I tend to rush things
I don't think well on my feet - I need time to sort through info
I'm not a very attentive husband
My Good Qualities
I really try to care about others
I really try to listen
I try not to wield any authority I may have in an unkind manner
I am a very easy-going dad and I want to give my daughter only the best of everything
I do many chores around the house and I pick up after myself
I have a good sense of humor, and I can laugh at myself
I play by the rules in life and try never to seek some unfair advantage, financial or otherwise
Lisa, I have to agree w Stinky that rooting for the underdog is not a fault.

While I think it's true that not all jws are like that, there is sometimes a tendency that I have noticed on the part of some to take unfair and illegal advantage of government services. Several in my area have tried claiming disability when in fact they go door-door, which obviously takes physical exertion and is work in and of itself in every sense of the word physically.
Also, teenyuck mentioned that other jws have knowledge of her mom's dealings and actually facilitate her cheating. Not good.

Anyway, one person whom my daughter invited is a jw, though she has said that she may want to get out soon. She does attend regularly with her parents for now. My concern is that she will tell other jws that we had a birthday celebration (there were balloons there, though no candles; some kids bought gifts) and that the elders may come knocking soon. Any input from you guys/gals as to what suggestions you might have for us if this indeed does happen would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
PS - while at the restaurant, the girl got a call on her cell phone from a jw friend. She told that friend that she was at the party and that it was for my daughter's birthday (she actually asked my daughter if it was okay to say that before she said it, and my daughter said okay. I wish she hadn't). Thus, it looks like the gossip wheel is already in motion.
Any suggestions?
